Municipality -> Commune
Hello, I noticed you've been replacing the word Municipality with Commune on multiple pages. What's your rationale for that? I'm slightly annoyed by it as municipality is clear English, whilst commune, in the sense of municipality, is a loan word and not its primary meaning. --Midas02 (talk) 04:25, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- Yes Midas02, precisely because the country of Haiti does not have "municipalities;" they are called communes. Also notice the fact that this change I am making pertains only to Haiti (or France). - Yes, but there's a difference here. When you have to define the exact status of such and such municipality, like in an infobox, you need to use the language of the country of origin (commune, gmina, Gemeinde, ...). There's no other way. But in a plain text, municipality reads well, whilst commune doesn't and supposes that the reader knows what it is. In this respect, articles on French topics aren't a reference as they are heavily edited by French users introducing bad English and alien terms.

- Fair enough Midas02, but if that's the case we are talking about precisely 105,000+ French articles, those that are at least listed under its project (here). While it may read better (depending on whose point of view), perhaps this can be a step towards refining its main article. There is a guideline to use the English language wherever possible, however, "commune" is in fact an English word (or a "common word" at least) deriving from Latin. The same could be said for "boroughs," or "parishes" which not all administrative divisions use but aren't simply translated into something that is most common to the everyday reader. - A commune is an administrative division of Haiti. See List of communes of Haiti. How would you translate a French Canton, or an Arrondissement (even though Google translates it as "districts;" but apparently this is not so accurate.), or a department? Why do you believe that the article is a stub? There's no absolute standard, but there are several rules of thumb, and it exceeds all of them significantly:
- A minimum of ten sentences – it has about 40.
- 500+ words – it has about 850.
- 1,500 characters of text – it has about 5,600.

Round 2 is over and 35 competitors have moved on to Round 3.
Round 2 saw three FAs (two by 
Cas Liber (submissions) and one by 
Montanabw (submissions)), four Featured Lists (with three by 
Calvin999 (submissions)), and 53 Good Articles (six by 
Worm That Turned (submissions) and five each by 
Hurricanehink (submissions), 
Cwmhiraeth (submissions), and 
MPJ-DK (submissions)). Eleven Featured Pictures were promoted (six by 
Adam Cuerden (submissions) and five by 
Godot13 (submissions)). One Featured Portal, Featured Topic and Good Topic were also promoted. The DYK base point total was 1,135. Cwmhiraeth (submissions) scored 265 base points, while 
The C of E (submissions) and MPJ-DK (submissions) each scored 150 base points. Eleven ITN were promoted and 131 Good Article Reviews were conducted with MPJ-DK (submissions) completing a staggering 61 reviews. Two contestants, Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and Cas Liber (submissions), broke the 700 point mark for Round 2.

Nobody has the name Constantin Henriquez de Zubiera. Constantin Henriquez de Zubiera is a name created by confusion between two names Constantin Henriquez and Francisco Henríquez de Zubiría. Result of searchs of ISOH. The name on Sports-Reference was corrected : The page Constantin Henriquez de Zubiera had destroyed for the creation of the page Constantin Henriquez : [1]. Can you cancel your last modifications on Constantin Henriquez, please ?

- Yes, it's a blog but it's Fernando Arrechea Rivas' blog. Fernando Arrechea Rivas is an Olympic historian and hispanic soccer historian member of the International Society of Olympic Historians. In the sources mentioned by Arrechea, the oldest occurrence with "Constantin Henriquez de Zubiera" is the German book Olympische Spiele 1900 in Paris in 1995 but this book quotes "Constantin Henriquez de Zubiera" in tug of war instead of Francisco Henríquez de Zubiría. And for old results in Olympic Games (database and history), Sports-References is the source the most used in Wikipedia. - In light of this new information, I think it is imperative that this article reads "Constantin Henriquez" and can hopefully be used as a benchmark to amend a careless mistake made in history and finally giving credit for Francisco Henríquez de Zubiría's silver medal feat in the Olympics during the same year. Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did to 2015 Copa América. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Two editors have requested that a source be provided, specifically for the ranking positions in the first column and the points totals in the last. Per WP:BURDEN, the correct way to deal with content that has been removed having been challenged as lacking a source is to provide a source, not to simply add back and say "take it to the talk page". For what it's worth, the person at 2015 Copa América is editing anonymously, but from the same location. The IPV6 address in question, 2003:5F:3E57:242C:24B8:8A61:4CEF:4F74, is composed of two major parts, the first half containing prefix and subnet ID, the second half identifying the specific computer. In this case, 2003:5F:3E57:242C identifies his location, in Berlin, the second half, 24B8:8A61:4CEF:4F74, identifies his computer. That's usually based on the MAC address of the computer, but it can be overridden - such as by running a virtual machine, in which case it will be assigned randomly. If you take this back to WP:ANI, it's probably worth asking for a range block on the entire prefix and subnet ID. See IPv6_address#Unicast_and_anycast_address_format. Regards, Tarl N. On Sunday, October 16, Wikimedia NYC will host a multimedia tutorial, workshop, and hackathon focused on Wikimedia Commons and the work processes for cultural multimedia wiki-projects. The CommonsLab is the concluding "upload party" to the Wikipedia @ Open House New York Weekend photo scavenger hunt, and an accompanying Wikimedia Commons multimedia hackathon. The event will take the form of a modified unconference, with sessions for photographers/creatives, editors/writers and hackers/software folks!

  Join us for a full Saturday of social Wikipedia editing at the Museum of Modern Art (drop-in any time!), during which we will create, update, and improve Wikipedia articles pertaining to the lives and works of Latin American artists. The WikiArte (Wiki Arte y Cultura Latinoamerica) edit-a-thon is a global campaign to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Latin American arts and culture and to counter geocultural systemic bias on Wikipedia. Featuring an opening Artists' Panel at 10am, with Sol Aramendi, Sharon Lee De La Cruz, and Marisa Morán Jahn, to be moderated by Rocío Aranda-Alvarado, curator at El Museo del Barrio. The Museum of Modern Art and Fundacion Cisneros/Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros are uniting with international allies to focus on the lives and works of Latin American artists, architects and designers. With keystone events scheduled for October 22 in New York City and other cities throughout the month (Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Caracas, & others), the campaign aims to further similar goals to Art+Feminism. All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required. Introductory training on the basics of Wikipedia editing will be given throughout the edit-a-thon. Please bring your laptop and power cord; we will have library resources, WiFi, and a list of suggested topics on hand.

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 350 articles in just six days. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thankyou. I reverted several of your edits on Russell Wilson because I felt they were unencyclopedic and extraneous in nature. The background section includes the most relevant portions pertaining to Wilson's ancestors from the Richmond Forum event. - Aqwfyj, your point is noted, however, who are we to determine was is considered relevant? The point of an encyclopia is to further improve upon it and to update accordingly with what we believe to be fact. In Russell Wilson's case, these lineages are not only being discussed at this forum but in sports articles alike as you can see a la Washington Post and among others. If it did not relate to him, there wouldn't be any articles with his name attached to them. It is important to name who these people are in this article, as well as titles briefly. We aren't going on about who Charlemagne concurred etc. I just do not see a reason to pick and choose what we should add from said articles; to do so is a bias determination and hinders the growth of an article. - Featured Article – Cas Liber (actually a three-way tie with themselves for two FAs in each of R2, R3, and R5).
- Good Article – MPJ-DK had 14 GAs promoted in R3.

Calvin999 (submissions) produced 2 FLs in R2 - Featured Pictures – Adam Cuerden restored 18 images to FP status in R4.
- Featured Portal –
SSTflyer (submissions) produced the only FPO of the Cup in R2. - Featured Topic –
Cyclonebiskit (submissions) and Calvin were each responsible for one FT in R3 and R2, respectively. - Good Topic – MPJ-DK created a GT with 9 GAs in R5.

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup
 Greetings, all! We would like to announce the start of the 4th GA Cup, a competition that seeks to encourage the reviewing of Good article nominations! Thus far, there have been three GA Cups, which were successful in reaching our goals of significantly reducing the traditionally long queue at GAN, so we're doing it again. Currently, there are over 400 nominations listed. We hope that we can again make an impact this time. The 4th GA Cup will begin on November 1, 2016. Four rounds are currently scheduled (which will bring the competition to a close on February 28, 2017), but this may change based on participant numbers. We may take a break in December for the holidays, depending on the results of a poll of our participants taken shortly after the competition begins. The sign-up and submissions process will remain the same, as will the scoring. Sign-ups for the upcoming competition are currently open and will close on November 14, 2016. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors, so sign-up now! If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the judges. Association des Industries d'Haïti
Hi SavvyJack23! Our paths have crossed recently at Le Nouvelliste (which is an article that could definitely be developed more!) and at Haiti-US relations. I haven't been able to make any progress on that page during the election, though I expect afterwards I'll be able to put together some elements I've scattered on talk pages in Clinton space and in a couple Haitian space articles. My feel is that there is no point moving forward on that article until HRC is anointed queen. ^^ (That said, Mark Bassett's comment is right on, on the Haiti-US relations page, it was only a collection of facts as first presented.)
I'm wondering if you could take a quick look at Draft:Association of Haitian Industries and let me know if you have any special expertise / knowledge on this, or any suggestions for its improvement. ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

 On Saturday December 3, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fifth Wikipedia edit-a-thon—or, #guggathon—to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from Greater China. The event will cap off Wikipedia Asian Month, an online campaign dedicated to augmenting Asian content on Wikipedia throughout November. New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Wikipedia, and Wikipedia specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support. Editors are invited to view the exhibition Tales of Our Time following the event. The Guggenheim aims to raise awareness of the artists featured in the Tales of Our Time exhibition supported by The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Chinese Art Initiative, and build on the model of campaigns like the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Women in Architecture, Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Contemporary Art of the Middle East and North Africa, and Art+Feminism.

WikiCup December newsletter: WikiCup 2017
On 1 January 2017, WikiCup 2017 (the 10th Annual WikiCup) will begin. This year we are trying something a little different – monetary prizes.
For the WC2017 the prizes will be as follows (amounts are based in US$ and will be awarded in the form of an online Amazon gift certificate):
- First place – $200
- Second & Third place – $50 each
- Category prizes – $25 per category (which will be limited to FA, FL, FP, GA, and DYK for 2017). Winning a category prize does not require making it to the final round.
Note: Monetary prizes are a one-year experiment for 2017 and may or may not be continued in the future. In order to be eligible to receive any of the prizes above, the competing Wikipedia account must have a valid/active email address.
After two years as a WikiCup judge, Figureskatingfan is stepping down. We thank her for her contributions as a WikiCup judge. We are pleased to announce that our newest judge is two-time WikiCup champion Cwmhiraeth.
