Hello

Hello friend, I would like to be your wikipedian friend, help me in editing and creating pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rajsector3 (talkcontribs) 16:27, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Rajsector3. It looks like you have made a good start. I would be happy to offer any help or advice you need. If you want general help on how to create pages and on Wikipedia's policies and guidlines then Help:Getting started is probably the best place to start. From IiKkEe

I reworded the Bone section, including the sentence where you added the new reference. If you wrote that sentence, and want to edit my edit I will definitely leave it. I changed the sentence based only on the title of your reference - I haven't read it yet, but I will.

Would you remind me on what page you first contacted me? I can't seem to find it. Being a WP newbie is showing.

On a different subject: does your background include paleontology? I've been teaching myself some basics online, and have two questions. Disregard if this isn't your thing. Do you know at what school level the geologic time terminology is introduced? Second, I have come up with my own mnemonics for remembering geologic periods: do you have a suggestion where I could post them so others could see them and decide if they are useful to them?

Regards,

IiKkEe (talk) 14:07, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi IiKkEe, your change to the bone section looks fine (I didn't write it, just added the reference). The page where I first contacted you was you're talk page.
I don't really know much about Paleontology so I can't answer your question but you could try asking at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Palaeontology, or maybe at the Reference desk. Sarahj2107 (talk) 14:21, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
I' m glad I didn't step on you editing toes. Would you take a look in the bone section and see if you think reference 71 needs to be in two places, and if not delete one?

Sorry about putting in the comma you had to take out: at least I learned the three conditions go together.

Just read your terrific addition to Genetics. Got me to thinking, organizationally speaking, there's alt of overlap between it and Obesity/leptin resistance. I'll take a look for possible mergers and/or redundancies.

Thanks for cleaning up the references I had pointed out needed help.

Thanks for the paleontology lead.

I'm going to take a crack at a Leptin and thermogenesis section. Is thermogenesis one of your areas?

Have you ever asked for permission to upload a copyrighted image? I'll be looking for help for that from somebody soon. Any tips?

That's it for now.

Regards -

IiKkEe (talk) 15:22, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

I don't know too much about thermogenesis but I might have a quick search of the literature today if I have time. The obesity section also needs some work, there are probably parts that could be moved or merged somewhere else.
If you want to upload a copyrighted image you should read Wikipedia:Non-free content, you could also ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Sarahj2107 (talk) 07:14, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

User "UserNameUnderConstruction" editing the AdvisorShares page needs to blocked

For the Advisorshares article, this user keeps writing advertorial content and seem to be related to the company. This user seems to be the same person as a previous user who was blocked because the had the user name "AdvisorShares". Before that they didn't use a user name and the ip address traced back to the town in Maryland where AdvisorShares is located. It seems more than likely that this person works for the company, is trying to make their page into a biased free advertisement and is not disclosing this, in violation of Wikipedia's rules and procedures. ETFeditor 17:45, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi ETFeditor. The article in general needs copy-edited to remove advert like content but I won't comment on what content beyond that should be on the page as I don't know enough about the subject. An editor usually can't be blocked unless they have had a warning and then continue to edit against policy. I would suggest you leave them a {{uw-advert1}} warning for now. If you want you could report them to the admins at WP:ANI but they will likely not do anything before the user has been warned. Sarahj2107 (talk) 18:29, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Do you put the {{uw-advert1}} warning on the particular user's talk page or on the article itself?ETFeditor 15:24, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

On my Lysol edit...

My apologies for the brute-force Lysol edit without any explanation for why I did so. I definitely failed to complete an edit summary when I should have.

The reason I deleted the content in question, is that it was definitely in error as phenol was the major active ingredient at the time. Brianm 14's information on the Lysol talk page is in fact correct. Also, the 1912 newspaper article referenced in the article specifically mentions carbolic acid (phenol). Nonetheless, in the future I will explain my actions when wielding the edit stick. I've mostly done minor edits until now...Crashbox (talk) 14:50, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

No problem. My main concern was that the removal of information about its toxicity looks non-neutral. If I remember correctly there have been problems in the past with people trying to whitewash the article, removing all potentially controversial information. If you think the information is incorrect, you are welcome to change it but remember to make sure you provide reliable references. Sarahj2107 (talk) 15:07, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

Assistance needed against an unreasonable edit on nalaka godahewa page (possible vandalism effort)

Dear Sarahj2107

This is regarding Nalaka Godahewa page which was improved a lot initially with your kind advice.

On 15th june 2014 there has been certain changes by some one who is identified only by a pin number 126.15.198.169. I feel it is not fair by a this public servant who has been constantly attacked by a hate group with allegations which have been proven. ( we have even quoted news paper articles referring to the president of the country and also the defense secretary of the country to show these are unsubstantiated allegations).

All pro and against articles were already linked to establish balance and transparency so that anyone interested could refer to them. For example ( Given Godahewa’s business connections with some of the high-net-worth investors, some expressed concern that there would be soft peddling of the ongoing investigations) is already there. But isn’t it very unfair now to bring some unsubstantiated statements to the body of the write-up. It shows a clear motivation to tannish the individuals image ?

Also please check the following new addition.

" It is also alleged that the net worth of Dr Nalaka Godahewa, who worked at Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation five years ago for a Rs. 125,000 salary has now exceeded Rs. one billion. Dr. Godahewa’s declared assets include Rs. 600 million worth of shares of George Stuart Finance, Rs. 200 m worth shares of Sri Lanka Hospitals Ltd. (formerly Apollo) and Rs. 200 m worth of shares of Colombo Lands and Development which owns Liberty Plaza."

Where is the citation of these stock values ? These are complete exaggerations with malicious intentions. Let me just prove this point.

The total market capitalization of George Stuart Finance is only rs 882,000,000 when we check on 5th September 2014 http://www.cse.lk/home.do . According to company published records Dr Godahewa holds 5% from the inception of the company and he has never sold any share. Value of his stock is roughly 40 Mn. But the paper says 600 Mn. His name does not even appear as a worthwhile shareholder in the annual reports of other two companies quoted. So most likely that they are false too.

Sri Lanka insurance is the largest insurance company in Sri Lanka and its common knowledge the the Managing director of such an insurance company should have drawn a salary of at least Rs 1 mn ( roughly 10 times what the article claims) . This is another example how that article is twisting facts to achieve its objective.

The website http://lankanewsweb.net/ quoted here ( lankanewsweb.com) is a politically motivated website banned in Sri Lanka. The source is unknown. If you kindly read some of their articles you will realize they are all hate attacks against current Sri Lanka government and its officials. Should wikipedia allow such sources to be quoted.

Kindly note that this new editor of the Nalaka Godahewa page has only these amendments in his wikipedia history record. So it is quite possible it is a vandalism effort by the same people who were attacking Dr Godahewa .

Most probably he represents sunday times because he not only has removed the previous heading " unsubstantiated claims of sunday times" and replaced it with " allegations of malpractices and corruption" a language used by the original articles, but also now refers to sunday times as a " renowned news paper ".

Really appreciate you could take corrective action against these new amendments ( I didn't touch it allowing you to read it fully) . I sincerely hope wikipedia will not be used for mud slinging.

Best Regards

SM Gooneratne,

I wouldn't say this is vandalism. I am seeing some POV editing in the article history but the ip editor 126.15.198.169 appears to have been making an effort to correct some of that. In regards to the addition you quoted above and his salary, I don't really have time to look into that at the moment and I don't know enough about the subject to say that the website given as a reference is a reliable source or not. I suggest you post your concerns on the article talk page and maybe someone else can help. Sarahj2107 (talk) 07:40, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
