Speedy deletion nomination of UP Cloud Computing Conference

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on UP Cloud Computing Conference, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. ScottyBerg (talk) 18:24, 6 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Removing Speedy at UP Cloud Computing Conference

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia, thank you for taking the time to create a page here. It might not have been your intention, but you recently removed a speedy deletion tag from a page you created yourself. Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the deletion tag you removed from UP Cloud Computing Conference. Please do not continue to remove the deletion tag, instead, if you disagree with the deletion, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the page by clicking this link. Once there, select the button that says Click here to contest this speedy deletion.
  2. This will take you to the talk page, where you can make your case by explaining why the page does not meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do. For further help about the deletion, you could contact the user who first placed the tag or a highly active user who is willingly to help with deletion. This message was left by a bot, so please do not contact the bot about the deletion. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 18:32, 6 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Status and Advice

edit

On the now deleted talk p. you said " This page is not unambiguously promotional, because it is widely cited. Also can you point me to where ' it only promotes an entity, person or product'? Aren't 90% of conference pages in Wikipedia fall into this category"

But this page gives a detailed programme, uses puffery to expound why the conference is important, addresses the reader : "Learn about ..." and uses the first person "we will..." , "our conference tracks...." There are, for that matter, very few conference pages on Wikipedia, and the practical rule about them seems to be that they are deleted if they are not famous. . There are a few pages about conference series of particular importance. This is about the second of a series. If there are for the first one references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases, and there are also such for the second, it might be possible to write an article about it as a series, after the second one has been held. But I do not immediately see such references. There are publications coming from the conference, but this is not the same thing.

Proposed deletion of List of cloud computing conferences

edit

The article List of cloud computing conferences has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Would this article/list ever be more than just a list of external links? Wikipedia policy WP:NOTDIR might be relevant. Even the items with references don't actually support any assertions, the references appears intended to surface external links.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
