Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Liverpool Overhead Railway, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Alexandra Dock. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your thoughts

edit

Hi again, three months ago (!) you raised a concern about a GA review I did - it's recently come up in conversation, and I wondered if you could go over your concerns again? Always looking to improve stuff like that, so it'd be really appreciated -- samtar talk or stalk 12:02, 17 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Samtar: Hey! Just wanted to say I've seen this and will take a proper look at it soon (and by proper I mean I'll read some papers and say something comprehensive!) :) Sam Walton (talk) 09:59, 20 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Could you please make this an editfilter?

edit

Hi, could you please make an edit filter called "Misspelled Pokémon", where if it matches "Pokèmon", "Pokemon", etc it'll warn the user and log it? I've tried to remove all the misspellings of Pokèmon that I could find, but it'd be useful if there was a comprehensive log of the new ones. Cheers. Anarchyte (work | talk) 08:31, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Anarchyte: We only have limited capacity for edit filters, and so really only run them for cases of vandalism, long term abuse, or widespread undesired edits, so unfortunately not, sorry. Sam Walton (talk) 08:40, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ah ok. I thought it'd be fine due to the edit filter being used to catch good faith edits. Would it be a better idea to try to gain consensus at the requests page or not bother? Anarchyte qI'm (work | talk) 08:46, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Anarchyte: It certainly wouldn't be against the rules to make this filter, but it would be much too computationally expensive for this kind of largely harmless edit. I doubt very much you'd gain consensus for such a filter when we're having to turn off some anti vandalism filters due to the limited capacity we have. Sam Walton (talk) 09:01, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
(talk page watcher) @Anarchyte: this could, however, be a good job for a bot to run, or even just manually via AWB? -- samtar talk or stalk 12:55, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Samtar: I have literally no experience in coding bots, so unless someone else could do it, that's not going to happen any time soon. I don't have the AWB right, either  . Anarchyte (work | talk) 13:00, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

questia, email cengage

edit

If editors email the cengage address you supplied, will that cengage employee give them a new code? Or will he just give them permission to re-use their email? Should I NOT give them a new code? Not clear.  Lingzhi ♦ (talk) 02:08, 13 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Lingzhi: I'm not sure - The email I received when I asked said: "we can only manually extend the editor’s access. As such, when it’s time for renewal, your editors can contact our Customer Service Manager, Luis Pedraza, either via phone or email with their HighBeam or Questia email address and name. He will be able to look up their account and then extend it for another year." He also said "those codes were designed to be only used for new accounts, not renewals" so I don't think you should give out codes for renewals if the user wants to keep their same email address, they should just email Luis and he'll extend their account manually. CTX

edit

Hi Samwlaton9, re your question on AN - the best way to see what CTX is all about really is to just load it up Special:ContentTranslation. We wary of pressing PUBLISH - or your change edit will be made (and if you pick a TO language besides English it will go on another project). After trying you may want to turn off all the plug ins it give you, they are in preferences, under beta. — xaosflux Talk 23:31, 27 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Template touchup needed

edit

Hi, Sam. WP:ASP WP:MIT and WP:RSUK need a slight touchup re: the new TWL continuity template. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 09:54, 30 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Checkingfax: In regards to the Navbox? It's on my to do list :) Sam Walton (talk) 10:10, 30 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
You were right :), can the following table prove useful? Resources not mentioned have {{TWL Header}} transcluded and /Navbox. Let me know if I can help out with moving. Sam Sailor Talk! 13:45, 30 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
{{TWL Header}}
TWL resource Uses /Navbox Uses /Nav Notes
Al Manhal No No But TWL Header is transcluded, i.e. has red-linked {{Wikipedia:{{PAGENAME}}/Navbox}}
De Gruyter   Yes TWL Header is not transcluded
Jamalon No No But TWL Header is transcluded, i.e. has red-linked {{Wikipedia:{{PAGENAME}}/Navbox}}
JSTOR   Yes TWL Header is not transcluded
OUP   Yes TWL Header is not transcluded
Pelican Books No No TWL Header is not transcluded
Fold3   Yes TWL Header is not transcluded
RIPM   Yes TWL Header is not transcluded
Questia   Yes TWL Header is not transcluded
Elsevier ScienceDirect   Yes TWL Header is not transcluded
Royal Society journals No No But TWL Header is transcluded, i.e. has red-linked {{Wikipedia:{{PAGENAME}}/Navbox}}

@Sam Sailor: Super helpful, thank you! I'm just going through and moving all the /Nav Navboxes to /Navbox so they're standardised, then we'll stick with that in the future. The pages where TWL Header isn't transcluded yet have minor differences that require the template to be edited a bit, which I'll get to soon. Sam Walton (talk) 14:21, 30 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
