Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Samboy/Archive2, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member, you might be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. A spam list is maintained by Redwolf24 to keep members up to date; you might want to consider adding your name to the list. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Essjay, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of myself, Flcelloguy, Ryan Norton, and Acetic Acid. The next set of elections will be at the end of the year, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact me via email or talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). WP quote in DOM article

Samboy, I was looking at the Washington Post quote in the DOM article. It does seem like the quote is a little sloppy. I'm not sure who put it in there, but I wanted to get your take on what we could do. What do you think about just putting the words, "you get the feeling" back into the quote, or even just removing the quote completely. Please let me know what you think ASAP. Last Call

Ok guys, this is a last call for evidence. No one has posted evidence besides myself. At the end of this week, I'm going to let the Arbitration Committee know that we are done.

When recommendations are made, I will need you guys to check in and sign on that you agree with them. Otherwise this will be all for not. Hello, fellow Esperanzians! This is just a friendly reminder that elections for Administrator General and two advisory council positions have just begun. Voting will last until Friday, December 30, so make sure you exercise your right to vote! Also, I'm pleased to announce the creation of the Esperanza mailing list. Arbitration Proposed Decision

Just to make everyone aware, arbitrators have begun to write the proposed decision in the arbitration case. You can view the decision here:[2].

So far no punative measures have been offered to solve the problems regarding the behavior of those involved. I strongly urge people to post comments asking for a stronger proposed decision from the Arbitration Committee. Otherwise, this will be all for nothing. We need to lobby them to get a ban on users as well as having them banned from editing certain articles for a period of time. There needs to be a clear message to those involved to stop reverting the article. Your comments can be left here: [3].

I know this is a busy season for everyone, but this will only take a few minutes. We need to deal with this now. If not, this problem will continue to disrupt Wikipedia. Davidpdx 00:25, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Edits to Prince Albert piercing and Frenum piercing

I posted this response in the talk page for the Prince Albert piercign entry, it is repeated here for your convenience and attention

Samboy, before I go and revert/contribute to your edits to both this article and the Frenum Piercing article, let me state several things.

• Photos of the human body in its natural state are not pornographic. They are not intended to arouse or in any way provide sexual stimulation to the reader.
• although it is not censorchip to say "I don't want this image here" it does go counter to what many editors and users see as the basic policies of Wikipedia. What is more important than you "not wanting the image here" is that other users and myself want the image here.
• I don't want pornographic images in the Wikipedia at all; I only accept "under the fold" as a compromise. - It's good to want things, but you don't make drive the policies of Wikipedia, and the images related to body modification or body piercing topics are not pornographic. If you are really concerned with pornography's place in Wikipedia, maybe you should concentrate your efforts to contribute in areas related to pornography.
• You are not making a compromise, as you are engaged in nothing resembling a dialogue on this or any other page, to my knowledge, that establishes a compromise. Softening your position, yet still enforcing it on the community is not a compromise. Glowimperial 02:33, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Juicereceiver - Podcasting

You backed out a change I made to the podcasting entry recently with the following comment.

 "Removing Juice: They call themselves GPL, but I haven't figured out how to get the source to their program"

I see your point. Took me a while to figure it out, but the source code is accessible. While they don't advertise it the source code for their product is available on Sourceforge either by using a command line cvs checkout

or via the web ineterface at

This meets the letter of the GPL.

Assuming this is OK I think the Juice entry should go back in.

I hate being negative, and I enjoy a good joke, but I personally feel that arbitrators have to be serious to a t. I opposed another candidate for the same reason--they were just too silly on their user page. Thank you for your input and your questions. I'm glad you're a part of the wiki community. Johnski Arbitration Case

Just a quick update on the arbitration case, two new arbitrators voted and there now might be enough votes to close the case finally. We need to keep an eye on this and make sure whatever solution that passes is fully implemented.

I'm pushing for a little bit tougher outcome, but realistically it's probably not going to happen. If you have time, please make some comments at Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration/Johnski/Proposed decision. Hopefully, semi-protection will be enough. Davidpdx 12:06, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Apology

I'm on Wikivacation, so go here if you want to talk to me, but before leaving, I want to apologize for getting so mad at you on Talk:Prince Albert piercing. I was angry and did not act in a civil manner. Wikipedia is just making me too angry and stressed, so I'm taking an extended Wikivacation; it's not your fault, it's my fault. (I'm putting this here because I don't consider it urgent, so you can just see it whenever you come back: )Er, thanks for the apology, but I came into that whole situation rather late, and the only thing you actually said to me on that talk page was overly emotional but not really offensive, given the phrasing. I don't think you offended anyone, more a matter of you frustrating Qvdm and some others.

Other than that, I'll make a few random comments: I definitely disagree with your crusade per User:Samboy/Offensive, particularly with your loose and inaccurate definition of "pornography". I agree with you about unreadable math articles. You are becoming just as irritating as Gene Poole or moreso regarding your inability to leave each other alone. OK, now I'm back. OK, I'll bow to consensus W.R.T. offensive content. I apologized to "Gene", but he deleted the apology and sent me a nasty flame via email. At this point, it looks like other users and administrators have taken him to task for his behavior, and I think he does make worthwhile contributions, so I'll let other users continue the matter. I had a nice vacation, and will now be mostly on Wikivacation. I will mainly use this account to update the MaraDNS version every time I make a stable release, and to make sure that article is accurate W.R.T. MaraDNS. Samboy 23:01, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

User:Samboy/Offensive is Fallacious

On User:Samboy/Offensive you state that Wales is against "offensive/disturbing" material on Wikipedia based solely on his deletion of the autofellatio picture. This is an established logical fallacy on your part (fallacy of composition) as you assume that one specific instance with it's own context and content applies to ALL instances regardless of the particular situation involved. Please remove this citation on your User:Samboy/Offensive page, and refrain from causing needless debate on articles such as human feces because the Wikipedia guidelines to mathematics, scientific, and medical articles clearly state that 1) Wikipedia is not censored and 2) Clinical and non-incitive pictures of what may be a controversial matter are still to be included as they are informative.

I think this would look better if you would sign your name with ~~~~. The only thing I will say is that I apologize for offending you, and have decided to not edit these articles so I can keep my Wikistress low. Samboy 21:45, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
