I have undeleted the Justin winokur page and moved it out of the primary article area and into your user space. It is now available here, including its history, and you can copy it or continue to work on it as you wish.

I deleted the article not because of any problems with the writing or structure, but rather because the subject itself does not meet our notability criteria. Please review the complete policy at WP:MUSIC, but there are two things to bear in mind:

  1. In general we do not carry articles on individual performers on the strength of their work with a larger, more notable ensemble. So, any notability Spitkiss may have does not produce an adequate reason to keep an article on Winokur, it only provides a reason to keep an article on Spitkiss.
  2. The basic rule for inclusion of bands and musical groups is that we expect to see two full-length releases on a major label or a prominent independent label whose roster includes numerous notable bands.

Hope this helps.

In response to your question, we would first have to establish the independent notability of the two ensembles. In general, our preference is to include as much material as possible in the ensemble-related articles. So, for example, we don't have an article on Dick Kniss despite the fact that he played bass on over a dozen albums that charted gold, because he really isn't especially notable outside the context of John Denver and Peter, Paul and Mary.
