File source problem with File:Law_&_Order-_CI_-_Season_6_Cast.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Law_&_Order-_CI_-_Season_6_Cast.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:58, 3 March 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey (talk) 14:58, 3 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

The article Payback (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable episode. Fails WP:Notability (fiction)

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Proposed deletion of Mary Shannon

edit

The article Mary Shannon has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article fails to assert notability of the character. There is no real-world analysis and the only references are to episodes from the series. The entire article is written in-universe and there is no encyclopaedic treatment of the subject.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Merging of the season articles was discussed, and consensus was reached to merge. You must discuss and gain consensus before reverting these changes. Being the lone dissenting voice does not give you the right to make these changes over consensus. Drmargi (talk) 01:25, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
You cannot make these changes when it was discussed and consensus reached to restore the article. "Making it simple" is not sufficient reason - see the discussion on the list article's discussion page, which includes links to the criteria for a split. Those criteria haven't been met. Speedy deletion nomination of Joshua Morton

edit

A tag has been placed on Joshua Morton requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ttonyb (talk) 04:18, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

edit

Please do not add or change content without citing verifiable and reliable sources, as you did to Law & Order: Los Angeles. Before making any potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Redfarmer (talk) 03:57, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • I'm sorry only if you took offense but not for the warning. The warning was for the infobox edit only, which I had just finished clearing of a large deal of misinformation. You should always cite information for your edits, especially for articles such as Law & Order: Los Angeles that are receiving a large volume of misinformation and speculation. You will note that five names were deleted that continue to have no source and my source confirms they are false. I had no way to tell if your edits were correct until I found a source. If you don't cite your sources, there is no way to tell where your information came from. Next time, all you need to do to avoid such confusion is make sure you include where you got the information. The above cited links will give you more information on this if you need it. Redfarmer (talk) 02:04, 12 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
    • And now that I look again at the edit that prompted the warning, I really do not believe you deserve an apology since you were part of the misinformation that was placed on the page. See this diff for an example. Redfarmer (talk) 02:34, 12 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
    • No, you're not due an apology. IMDB is a user created source, which means that, like Wikipedia, anyone can go and add anything they want at their own whim. Unlike Wikipedia, IMDB does not require fact checking and reliable sources. As such, IMDB is not a reliable source. The warning stands. Redfarmer (talk) 13:23, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Pilot (Covert Affairs)

edit

A tag has been placed on Pilot (Covert Affairs) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

Kudpung (talk) 19:04, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages, such as Pilot (Covert Affairs), to Wikipedia as doing so is not in accordance with our policies. For more information about creating articles, you may want to read Wikipedia:Your first article; you might also consider using the Article Wizard. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Please don't use copyrighted text in new (or that matter, any) articles, or they're likely to be G11ed. LO:LA edit summaries

edit

Hi, I appreciate the work you've done keeping Law & Order: Los Angeles cited properly, but your edit summaries are a bit harsh. I've noticed on anything that has future events will always have tons of IP addresses and new users eager to edit without citing reliable sources, and quite frankly, it's not worth your time to get upset about it. No matter how many times you warn them, they'll always come back. I recommend you check out WP:Twinkle; its reversion tools are quite useful, giving you the choice of reverting while assuming good faith (which, for these kinds of articles, they usually are), or reverting while marking for vandalism, all in a single click. Meanwhile, keep cool, and remember to keep it civil. –Schmloof (talk · contribs) 05:58, 19 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Zcity.PNG

Thanks for uploading File:Zcity.PNG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

SVU Season 12 Episodes :)

edit

Hey SVU4671! Was just wondering if I would...(or others) can use this site as a way of showing when an episode airs. The site does not really look like too much, but when you have a look you will notice that it shows a list of all episodes, the seasons, when they aired etc. For example the next lot of SVU episodes to air after "Bombshell" are:

  • Totem (ep.20)
  • Bang (ep.21)
  • Reparations (ep.22)
  • Delinquent (ep.23)
  • Brood (ep.24) - Season Finale

You probably already know what episodes they are, but this way we can identify there episode number and title air date. I'm sure that rules of adding other websites other than main news links to the page, are not etched in stone, so is it possible to add in episodes with the news links but also with this link? the link is: epguides.com/LawandOrder SVU Thank You :) -- MelbourneStar☆ (talk) 08:47, 7 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

There is a new and keen editor here who's redirecting all L&O episode articles (individual episodes) claiming that they are not notable, from seasons 1 (1990) right through to 20 (2010). This editor is ignoring consensus for articles, and just redirecting them to their seasons. There are episode articles that do have few references, but they are being redirected too. What should I do? -- MelbourneStar☆ (talk to me) 10:06, 21 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:KelliGiddishSVU13x01.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:KelliGiddishSVU13x01.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Hammersoft (talk) 19:39, 22 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • Please do not remove the DFU tag from the image. As is, the article does not discuss the image in any respect. It only (briefly) discusses the addition of Giddish to the cast. Further, the non-free image being used to illustrate the article is replaceable by a free alternative; File:2009 07 24 Kelli Giddish.jpg. Her appearance as a cast member does not differ significantly from her 'real life' appearance. Thus, the free image serves the same purpose. --Hammersoft (talk) 19:47, 22 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

File:Law and Order Special Victims Unit Season 13 Cast.jpg and File:LawAndOrderSVU S13.jpg show the exact same characters. There is no need for both images to exist to convey who is on the case in pictorial form. The DVD cover already does that. Since both images are non-free, per WP:NFCC #3a and WP:NFCC #8, using both images is against policy. I have reverted your restoration. If you believe this is in error, please take the issue up at WT:NFC. At a minimum, if you believe it must be restored, then remove the DVD cover as that would bring compliance with WP:NFCC. Having both images on the article is not the way forward. If you disagree, WT:NFC is the way forward, not restoration. --Hammersoft (talk) 16:01, 28 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Monster's Legacy, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from multiple sources. See Talk:Monster's Legacy; I am convinced considering how widespread the plagiarism is over multiple articles that sorting through it all is unreasonable from a time point of view and should be started from scratch. As a copyright violation, Monster's Legacy appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Monster's Legacy has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Monster's Legacy and send an email with the message to permissions-en wikimedia.org. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that it is licensed under the CC-BY-SA license, leave a note at Talk:Monster's Legacy with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the CC-BY-SA and GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Monster's Legacy.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While contributions are appreciated, Wikipedia must require all contributors to understand and comply with its copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. Mkdwtalk 07:38, 7 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked temporarily from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without verifying permission. You have been previously warned that this is against policy, but have persisted, as you did at Monster's Legacy. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.  Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:58, 7 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I see that you were linked to our copyright policies as far back as 2010. You simply cannot build articles by copying content from other sources. To look at one paragraph alone from this recently created article:
Source Article
Tyson says he found Hargitay to be "very quiet" on set. "You can tell she's the boss." But he maintains that he didn't take the job looking for friends or admiration. "I didn't go there looking for people to kiss on me and tell me how great I am," he says. "That's my downfall. I try to stay as far away from that as possible. I was there to do a service." This was Tyson's first opportunity to act as a character other than himself (as he has done in The Hangover films; he'll appear in Part 3 later this year). He is well aware that he has much to learn. Tyson says he found Mariska Hargitay to be "very quiet" on set. "You can tell she's the boss." But he maintains that he didn't take the job looking for friends or admiration. I have bolded what you have duplicated exactly. You have gone far beyond quoting here. You have taken their text in its entirety. It's fine to extract brief quotes from sources, but you cannot copy extensively from copyrighted sources and you must clearly indicate all copied content is quoted. See Wikipedia:Copy-paste.

I have changed the speedy deletion into a blanking and listing at the copyright problem board. You will have the opportunity to rewrite this article in compliance with our copyright procedures once your block has expired.

Please be careful to follow these policies henceforth, as we simply must enforce them. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:05, 7 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. The article List of Law & Order: LA cast members has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NOTDIR, redundant to List of Law & Order: LA characters for the notable cast. Compare Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Bad Girls cast members.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. – sgeureka tc 22:39, 27 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
