Contents WikiCast: Pull Stream... Owing to some concerns raised in #Wikipedia, suggest you check on what the (C) situation re the stream would be again, given the recent changes to royalty arrangments. At the moment I am seriously considering if the stream can exist at all. ShakespeareFan00 16:52, 2 May 2007 (UTC) New AccReqBot task? AccReqBot is very helpful at WP:ACC, but there's another task that's being discussed on the talk page that might be appropriate for a bot. We're using the {{ACC}} template to tag the status of a request in machine-readable form; if a request has been tagged with {{ACC}} for 3 days, and its first parameter is neither 's' nor 'similar', could the bot remove the request as rejected? (It wouldn't have to be 3 days exactly, just run on a typical archivebot schedule, removing rather than archiving the requests.) At the moment, rejected requests just build up. As you can already see, there is three HBC AIV helperbots running and I really thought there was the need for two AccReqBots because if say you have to update yours, mine would keep running the tasks, and so on. I can, on some circumstances run the bot from my spare Windows 98 computer, but as I said, the bandwidth issues with my current ISP really puts that off. If you don't really think there is a point of running it anymore, I will just have to resist not running a bot on Wikipedia. I'm sorry I have put all this on you at one time, but I just enjoy running and maintaining bots, while also contributing myself. Also, with the AccReqBot2 BRFA, I have stated that I am very keen on it and don't really see a problem about running another one along side it, because if one goes down (like yours did yesterday), my copy will still run. And with updates, we can update the code at different times so that it is still monitored. And remember, if the toolserver goes down, that's not really out fault. But, I don't really see it being approved, just like all my bots have been declined (except for one!). However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. Sorry to bother you, but as I have been going around the place today, I have found the need for an archival bot on two popular pages. They are Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser and Wikipedia:Abuse reports. They both are currently archived manually, but I'm sure I can set up a new routine where they add a certain 'finished', 'declined', etc. tag to the bottom of the request and let it be archived to a subpage such as /Completed requests or /Declined requests. Let me know what you think about it. Primarily, if you think it is good, and we were to request it, the name would be ExtranetBot (which I can create), so that I can run multiple tasks from the one. It would also be most likely run on the toolserver. As I said, let me know what you think and whether we would really need one. That template really seems better suited for users who have made contributions that are welcomed by human editors. You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. If so, remove it. If it has template B, move it to the rejected requests. If it has template C, wait 5 days then delete it. If there have been to edits for a month, archive it.. Running a bot on toolserv, you SSH to it, you can make a little perl script that downloads it from the subpage to a file, then you just type chmod +x filename and screen ./filename. --ST47Talk 22:00, 21 May 2007 (UTC) I don't really understand how to operate and run something on the toolserver... SSH is secure shell, so essentially you get access to that computer from your own. If you run windows, google PuTTY - you need to download the windows installer, that will give you PuTTY itself and PuTTYgen. Install it, and run PuTTYgen, you need to create and save an SSH key somewhere easy to remember. Once you're approved for toolserv, you'll be asked to send in part of that key, but if you need help with that you can ask on IRC. Someone can also walk you through connecting, don't know where the options are, but you need to set the host to hemlock.knams.wikimedia.org port 22 protocol SSH, and you probably need to point it to your key. The way it is now, the checkuser can decide whether it is close to compliant to process because my comments alert it as to the correct code. I also am very cautious about changing a request. The original author may have a specific reason for doing things. I tend to just make a brief note as a clerknote. Until very recently, code F required a link to the community ban discussion. However, this is sometimes hard for requestors to find because offenders are often blocked before a community ban discussion starts. So if you look under the offender's contribution list, you will have to search hard to find the ban discussion. Recently, it was changed to require only the block log, which is simple to find and link. Clerk Groove Dog seems to understand the code F requirements as I do. Disruptive socks and throwaway accounts do not require checkusers (per instructions box). Some of the requests are actually fit into those categories, though I tend to be diplomatic and don't say "look here, read the instructions, idiot. And stop bothering us". Since I've started clerk duties in May, I haven't received any complaints from checkusers saying that my work is bad. In the same time, there has been at least one checkuser (person who runs the searchs) commenting about another clerk's clerknote (which said something like "correct this right away or it will be deleted"). I think transparency is usually the best policy. To this end, I rarely change stuff.
