Black Metal and not playing live edit

You should have read the sentence correctly before editing the article; it says that “many black metal artists do not perform concerts” (which is true), not that “most black metal artists do not perform concerts” (which, indeed, sounds questionable), as wrongly cited in your summary. --217/83 04:18, 30 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I admit that I mis-reported the content, but it still remains that this should probably be cited. It seems to me that the statement is made to sound useful and unique to black metal. I imagine that you could say the same thing about most garage bands, electronic musicians, etc. since getting a gig is not easily accomplished and many people just fuck around for fun at home. In any genre there will be a few bands that play live and are acclaimed for it and a lot of bands that go nowhere. In any case, if this is true (that "many black metal bands do not perform concerts") it seems significant and it should be cited. There are probably some books that can verify the claim, though I don't have access to them. Maybe you do? "Rockdetector: A-Z of Black Metal" by Garry Sharpe-Young, "Black Metal: Beyond the Darkness" by Stosuy et al. (this will be published in April), "The Slayer Mag Diaries" by Kristiansen, and maybe "Commodified Evil's Wayward Children: Black Metal and Death Metal as Purveyors of an Alternative Form of Modern Escapism" by Forster.

I own Metalion: The Slayer Mag Diaries and can recommend it. And I have read parts of Forster’s book, too (worth reading if I remember correctly). I haven’t denied that “this should probably be cited”. But the statement is not “made to sound useful and unique to black metal”, but because this is actually pretty normal (including many of the most important bands), not because “getting a gig is not easily accomplished” (can’t confirm this) and “many people just fuck around for fun at home”. In my experience, playing live is usual in other subcultures, including Metal in general. So this is “unique to black metal” but not stated “to sound useful and unique”. --217/83 21:08, 8 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
