GA Cup - Round 3
Greetings, all! We hope that all of our American GA Cup competitors had an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. Friday saw the end of Round 2. Two from 7 pools, plus a tie score and one wildcard (16 in all) moved onto the next round. Some pools were more competitive than others. Round 2's highest scorer was 3family6, with an impressive 255 points. Good888, who came in second place overall with 202 points, reviewed the most articles (19). The wildcard slot for Round 2 went to Jaguar. Congrats to all! Round 3 will have 15 competitors in three pools. The key to moving forward in Round 2 seemed to be reviewing articles with the longest nomination dates; almost everyone who moved forward nominated at least one article from the pink nomination box (20 points) or reviewed articles that had languished in the queue for over 5 months (18 points). The GA Cup was also used to promote a group of articles about The Boat Race, a rowing race held annually since 1856 between Oxford University and Cambridge University, on the River Thames. 17 Boat Race articles were promoted to GA in November. In Round 2, 110 reviews were completed, as compared to 117 in Round 1. The GA Cup continues to be a success. This month, we got a report from User:AmericanLemming, who maintains the GA statistics, that in October, there was a net gain of 201 articles nominated for GA. He thought that more open GANs could mean that more editors are submitting more of their articles to the GAN process. In addition, having a high-throughput of GANs means that more articles get reviewed more quickly, which reduces the frustration of potentially waiting several months to get an article reviewed. The activity in Round 2 of the GA Cup seems to bear that out. It's our hope that the competitors' enthusiasm continues in Round 3, and we can continue to make a difference in helping more editors improve their articles. For Round 3, participants have been randomly put in 3 pools of 5 contestants each; the top two in each pool progressing, as well as the top 2 of all remaining users. Round 3 will start on December 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on December 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 3 and the pools can be found here. There have been a couple of rules clarifications to announce. We're slightly changing the wording to the second bullet in "General rules", which now reads: You may only score points in a round for reviews which have been completed in that round. We're also including this clarification: Only reviews started during the competition are eligible. We have also lost a judge, so there are now only three judges. Good luck and remember to have fun as we move into the holiday season. It is the judges' hope that every competitor in the GA Cup has a joyous holiday season and Happy New Year. Cheers from Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan. To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Comment removal
Why on earth did you remove my edits. You live in India, and I'm pretty sure you have no knowledge of the school in question. The information I added was fact - and parents have the right to know as much as possible about an institution that may be educating their children for 5 years. So stop playing wiki-God and undo your removal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Billy the Budgie (talk • contribs) 06:25, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
- @Billy the Budgie: Yes, I live in India. Just because you live in the area/attend the school or whatever it DOES NOT MAKE YOU AN EXPERT on the subject. Your edit was unsourced, wreaks of Original Research and seems to show a potential Conflict of Interest. This apart, your behaviour is reasonably uncivil. So in short, I'm not playing any Wiki God, and I am NOT going to undo my edit, if you want to bring it back, someone else will remove it, and demanding that it be brought back is just not going to help. Perhaps you should read up the policies on schools. Wikipedia is not a blog or a place to post opinions. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 06:36, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

It seems that you have implied that I have attempted to start a caste war.
I am not a Yadav, I am not from UP, and I am not a supporter of the Yadav goverment. At the beginning the story was widely told with a caste perspective, and it was claimed that the victims were dalit. There were not, and in fact they belonged to the same strata - OBC as the suspects. Thus it was necessary to point out that caste did not play a role as was widely claimed.
There have been many reports that pointed to the rape accusation being unjustified, even before the CBI came to its conclusions. Feel free to claim otherwise if you still disagree.
Your implication is not right and not fair.

2014 Peshawar school attack
Your recent editing history at 2014 Peshawar school attack shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. lTopGunl (talk) 08:17, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
[1] [2] [3] It would be a good idea to stop reverting random editors and get them to use the talkpage along with you...

- @TopGun:. I AM NOT edit warring. I undid the first edit by 129.94.236.153 because the category being added was the parent category of one that was already present there. The second one where I unlinked, was because it was red. It was done simply because it was red. I did NOT undo anyone and I don't understand how it is edit warring. The third edit by 69.165.246.175 which I undid was because Koavf had already removed the link to Russian Federation. Why don't you go thru the edits completely once before saying I'm indulging in edit warring? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 08:22, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- That's what editwarring is.. reverting instead of discussing. I don't really care what edits you are making and if you think you are right... reverting repeatedly instead of using talkpage for discussion and consensus is editwarring per WP:EW and all your reverts count up to WP:3RR regardless of the fact that your edits were in good faith or not, correct or not. Also, specifically your 1 edit that reverted me was not justified per WP:REDLINK. I'm not going to argue with you over it.. if you like you can go on till you get blocked. --lTopGunl (talk) 08:26, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

@TopGun: WHAT is there to discuss about removing a category whose child category is ALREADY present? I've made more contribs to the talk page of the article than you have in generating consensus. I did NOT revert ANY edit of YOURs. Before attempting to indimitate another user, I'd suggest youread up on edit warring. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 08:30, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Reverting while discussing still counts as editwar per WP:EW.. given that I just started editing here, I don't think you should take me as involved in all of your edits. Btw, this is borderline canvassing. --lTopGunl (talk) 08:33, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Sure, go ahead. There was no discussion to begin with in the first place. If there was one on the talk page, I would have replied there. Clearly you aren't bothered with that. You just want me to stop editing. Fine. I won't edit that article till I get a green from an admin. AFAIK, I'm not canvassing. I'm only asking for opinions since this is the first time I'm being accused of something in such an absurd manner. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 08:37, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Why would I want to stop you from editing when I have hardly interacted with you? Selectively asking for opinion from an editor who has already engaged in WP:BATTLE per his own report is canvassing. Anyway, if you don't see a talkpage discussion you can start one.. that's no excuse for not discussing... you only reverted me once.. so why would I even have anything else to do with you given that you apparently got my point of revert and stopped reverting that specific edit. I found your random reverts of others disruptive and informed you. There's no need to drag it along. --lTopGunl (talk) 08:48, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

I've just reviewed Rsrikath05's edits to the article (at his request). I see no evidence of edit warring at all. At no point can I see instances of Rsrikanth05 reverting to retain information that he added in a previous edit, nor is he repeatedly reverting the same editor. This is bold editing of the type that is actively encouraged on Wikipedia. If Rsrikanth05's own edits are reverted and he then re-reverts to keep them in without discussion, then we have an edit war. At present, however, that does not appear to have happened. Yunshui 雲水 08:51, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- My warning was aimed to prevent reverting every WP:BOLD editor who adds something to the article.. I do agree some of his edits were helpful but re-reverting is not the criteria for WP:EW, and none of his edits conformed to the exemptions of WP:EW.. the template is also clearly worded and does not mean that he might be totally wrong. It only bites the new comers and IPs, which is why it should be avoided. In all these three instances [4] [5] [6] the reverts are removal of content added by other editors. While I did assume good faith and did not really warn him on his reverting of my edit, It's just a warning, not a report for block.. so I think this much was due. This was by no means to stop him from editing the article and if that's how it was taken, I guess it's been clarified now. Cheers. --lTopGunl (talk) 09:01, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, re-reverting is exactly the criteria for edit warring: An edit war only arises if the situation develops into a series of back-and-forth reverts (from WP:EW). Making an edit that reverts another editor for the first time is not edit warring. If you want to warn Rsrikanth05 for biting newcomers, that's another thing entirely, but the accusation of edit-warring is unfounded. Yunshui 雲水 09:06, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- I never reverted TopGun. Henceforth I will NOT edit any article that they are editing. If they happen to edit something I am working on then I will abandon it, even if it is a DYK or a GA in progress. I'd rather have my sanity than some wild accusations of 'Go on, till you get blocked'. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 11:39, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- On a side note. TopGun asked me to discuss chaanges. I have state above that the 'changes' were all minor in nature with NONE being discussion worthy. If there was any discussion, then why is it NOT on the talk page? Why do I have so many edits on the talk page discussing the article and the person who is accusing me of not discussion not have ANY edits WHATSOEVER on the talk page? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 11:47, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- And given that you have claimed to have preemptively given me the warning [to prevent me from doing further damage], I should perhaps also leave a warning on your page not to leave warnings on the talk pages of every user whose edits you think are disruptive. I rest my case. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 11:49, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Now is probably a good point to draw this to a close. @TopGun:, I'm afraid you're in the wrong here; it is impossible to edit war by making single reverts - that's just regular editing. Opening a discussion is the responsibility of the editor being reverted not the one doing the reverting. @Rsrikanth05:, resting your case is the best option here; there's no need to let this escalate into a dispute. I recognise that the article is both current and emotive, but please put this disagreement behind you both and carry on editing. Yunshui 雲水 11:55, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Done. As I said, I'm gonna ignore all of those, try and maybe find some sources for Millie Bus and maybe get it to DYK or something. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 11:59, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- The fact that I stopped replying here and removed this page from my watchlist was that I had rested my case long ago... there's obviously no need to escalate it into a dispute where I only perceived the reverts to be undoing changes of other editors repeatedly and to be honest I've not edited the article much yet so I don't know why there should be a dispute between the two of us here. Cheers. --lTopGunl (talk) 12:04, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
I took the liberty to strike off the false and meaningless warning of edit warring when it is verified by a third person that there's none. ƬheStrikeΣagle 13:54, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Just the ticket!
Heya, just went thru your 'About' section and discovered you too collect railway tickets like me. Nice to meet you! Care to join me on Train tickets sometime? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 21:43, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
Excellent – pleased to find a fellow collector! A railway ticket/train ticket article would be a very useful addition to WP, but the scope of it would be almost overwhelming! I have a wealth of source material that could be used, though. Incidentally I am currently preparing to write some ticket-related papers for publication in the "real world". My collecting specialism is modern British railway tickets (see this article, one of mine, for an example); what are your particular interests? GA Cup - Round 4 (Semi-Finals)
Happy New Year! We hope that all of our GA Cup competitors had an enjoyable and safe holiday season. Monday saw the end of Round 3. Eight contestants moved forward to Round 4—the top two contestants from each of Round 3's three pools and the top two participants of all remaining users. It was an exciting competition, especially towards the end. Round 3's highest scorer was Jaguar, Round 2's wildcard, with an impressive 305 points, the highest score in the GA Cup thus far. Pool B was the closest race; J_Milburn and Cwmhiraeth switched places a few times in the final hours of the competition, although J Milburn edged out Cwmhiraeth by just 9 points. Pool A was, by far, the most competitive; four out of five moved onto Round 4, and its competitors earned a cumulative 935 points and reviewed 59 articles. Ritchie333, who came in second overall with 255 points, reviewed the most articles (17). Peacemaker67 and Wizardman earned the two wildcard slots, with 184 and 154 points, respectively. Congrats to all! 114 articles were reviewed this round, as compared to 110 in Round 2 and 117 in Round 1. The key to success in Round 3, like in Round 2, was reviewing articles with the longest nomination dates; everyone who moved forward reviewed articles from the pink nomination box (20 points) or reviewed articles that had languished in the queue for over 5 months (18 points). Many of these articles had languished because their nominators had left Wikipedia and had little chance of passing to GA, so our competitors provided a great service by helping remove them from the queue. Also as in Round 2, The Boat Race articles proved to be popular review choices, with 10% of all the articles reviewed in December. We appreciate the competitors' continued enthusiasm, even during the busy holiday season. At least one competitor even reviewed articles while preparing for a holiday meal! For Round 4, participants have been randomly put in 2 pools of 4 contestants each. The top two in each pool will progress to the finals, as well as the top participant (5th place) of all remaining users. The semi-finals will start on January 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on January 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 4 and the pools can be found here. We received some excellent feedback about how to improve the GA Cup in the future, including the definition of "quickfails" and the use of pools, which we'll seriously consider as we move forward. As a result of this feedback and the experience we've gained, there will be some changes to the rules come next years GA Cup. Good luck to all our semi-finalists! It is the judges' hope that every competitor in the GA Cup continue to have fun and be enthusiastic about reviewing and passing articles to GA!
