HMS Calliope (1884)

Hello Rotherstone! I would welcome you to Wikipedia, but I see that you contributed some years ago.

Do you know if there is any source we can use for your recent addition? I found mention of it in a blog, and another on a website maintained by a descendant of one of Calliope's crew, but nothing from a permanent website. I could not find anything on the church website, nor on the page for the church as a listed building.

Of course, a printed source would be sufficient-- a reliable source need not be online.

Rotherstone, you have replied in the right way. I formatted it for you so you can see one way to format such replies. It is common to indent replies, which is done using the colon (:).

Those look like good sources, especially the first one. Do you know who the publisher is, and in what city the publisher is located? Also, what page(s) mention the provenance of the organ enclosure (or whatever it is)? With that information I will add a cite to the article. Hello again Kablammo. The publisher of 'THE HISTORY OF CHRIST CHURCH, NORTH SHIELDS' was a small local firm in Newcastle upon Tyne but I do not have the name and it no longer exists. The page number is 23.

Dear Kablammo. The info I gave last evening was incorrect - sorry. The publisher was CHRIST CHURCH NORTH SHIELDS PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCIL. It was the printer who closed.

I could supply a photo of the organ with the paneling either side if you told me how to do it.

I could help you with images, but there may not be room on the ship article. The church itself should have an article, as it is historic. Hi. The draft has now been moved by me into Wikipedia mainspace at Christ Church, North Shields. The External links at the end of the article lead to lots of old and new images of the outside and inside of the church, including some of the organ, BUT I can't find any images of the mahogany panels from HMS Calliope (1884). I also can help. You first upload the photos to your computer. Give them a descriptive name (what the photo shows). The Commons link GT gave you will walk you through it, but as it is your own work, permissions will not be an issue. Once uploaded they can be assigned to categories. GT or I can do that. Hi G. Glad the updates were successful although I did get a red message informing me that the file names were the same when in fact they weren't and I ended up sending 2 copies of the same photo. Looking at the page for Christ Church I am puzzled. Under the photo of the church it states Christ Church and former vestry seen from the north. Most of that is incorrect. It is Christ Church viewed from south west, no old vestry is visible, it was around on the north side. I have written the most recent history of the church and hold masses of information and photos. However the uploading of info with all the shorthand and symbols is quite daunting.Rotherstone (talk) 07:54, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Well, you know the church and I don't, but if the prominent free-standing building with the hipped roof in front of the church in the photo isn't the old vestry, what is it? Pevsner et al says "N of the church, the former vestry, like a house, with a hipped roof on the end facing the church and a plain north gable. To this N gable an entirely sympathetic yet not unoriginal Parish Hall was added in 1984 by Rock Townsend." The photo is dated 2006 but there's no sign of the Parish Hall! It's all very confusing (at least to me). I'll be happy to correct the caption when this is sorted out. --GuillaumeTell 10:04, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

It is the church! Go to google earth and put in Christ Church, Preston Road,North Shields. Plan view will show the church has 3 bays, North Aisle, Nave and South Aisle all with hipped roofs. The old vestry on the north side was extended and enlarged to form the Parish Centre in 1984 - can be viewed from Preston Road on Street View.
