Rapid AfD after questionable edits

Hi, Rosie! Ipigott suggested I reach out to you.

I'm hoping to appeal an AfD of the Rhonda Patrick page. Unfortunately, everyone that voted in favor of the AfD going through was ultimately voting on a page that had already been defaced by a number of highly questionable (e.g. inappropriate IMO) edits that made the page, in my opinion, lower quality. I had noticed these on the page prior to the AfD but, rather than simply reverse the edits, I was hoping to appeal to the editor directly with a composed rebuttal of the edits. When I finally found the time, it had already been deleted. This is very regrettable since the edits removed mention of Patrick's contributions in her field and also media references to her work! To have an AfD vote on the article after its best claim to WP:NOTABILITY was clumsily removed is not fair, in my opinion. I don't know if there's any recourse at this point. It's not my desire to push my will on the Wikipedian community, but I do think the AfD vote was undermined by these edits and that some of the delete votes were probably without awareness of these changes. The fact of the matter is that the defacement occurred so rapidly before the AfD, I almost feel (mistakenly or not) they were created with the intent of damaging WP:NOTABILITY criteria for the subsequent AfD. I will concede the possibility of a misinterpretation on my part, however.

I posted a more thorough breakdown of the situation on the admin's talk page that approved the recent AfD, but haven't received a reply from him or her.

Michaela Quinn

Could you undelete the Michaela Quinn page, to simply allow discussion? I'm all about consensus, but there was never any discussion. The argument seemed to be that it wasn't even worthy of a speedy delete process. If the article has issues, they can be dealt with. (Refs, etc.) I will be happy to find refs. Ipigott, hmmm, thinking about it, I think "reaching out" is US workplace-speak. When I say it, I mean "showing interest in", e.g. thank you for being interested in my sessions at WCNA and Wikimania. How did you even notice what was going on? Carnegie Mellon University has hosted at least two Art and Feminism edit-a-thons that I have attended and these were well-attended. The University of Pittsburgh is right next to Carnegie Mellon, and I mean right next to each other. You can go from a building from Pitt and into the next building of Carnegie Mellon. I do a lot of work in women's basketball related issues - just added the missing US basketball Olympians here: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Women_in_Red/Meetup/55#Redlists_.28lists_of_redlinked_articles_to_be_created.29 so guessing you were looking for help identifying a broader group - maybe all female Olympians in all sports in all countries. I see you can pick up quite a lot of women paralympians by looking at articles such as Equestrian at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, Equestrian at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, Athletics at the 2012 Summer Paralympics – Women's javelin throw, Athletics at the 2012 Summer Paralympics – Women's javelin throw. Just pick up the articles on events where women are active from categories such as Category:Athletics at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, Category:Swimming at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Merge Eleanor Catherine Sperrey to Kate Sperrey

Can you merge this Eleanor Catherine Sperrey with the article I wrote on Kate Sperrey? They are the same person, but the Wikidata list didn't pick that up and I created it from the New Zealand list. Obviously the 1 sentence stub information needs to be replaced with the data I wrote, but since technically Stuartyeates created it in 2012, they should get credit for it. She was never known by Eleanor as far as I can tell. All the newspaper articles and data except the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography give her name as Kate. I don't really care if I don't get credit for writing it, Stuartyeates did create the first article, but I would like for Eleanor Catherine Sperrey to become a redirect, as it is not the common name. My pleasure; SusunW. In my sandbox, there's a link for my tools page. On my tools page, I have links for WP:MERGE, WP:SPLIT, etc. I just carefully follow the instructions and that seems to work fine. However, I don't know for sure if all of these tools work for everyone vs. only sysops. But I am very glad to help out with any of these requests. Oh, and by following the instructions re what to do on each of the two article pages, and their edit summaries, and their talkpages, attribution + history is handled appropriately. American Civil War nurses

Hi Rosie Step -- I see that you just pulled Sara Plummer Lemmon out of Category:American Civil War nurses and put her in the Category:Female nurses in the American Civil War category. I have no objection to adding her to the gendered category, which puts her in the gendered professional category tree. But gendered (or raced) categories are supposed to be non-diffusing, so that the non-gendered category is still representative. See Wikipedia:Categorization/Ethnicity,_gender,_religion_and_sexuality#General #5 ... Is there something I'm missing about this particular category? Hi Rosie! Typing this from my kindle. I've found that I prefer to view wiki on this than the PC. Seems more like a book encyclopedic. Wiki has been less appealing since I got a widescreen hp. I am banging my head on a wall with this one. How can she be "mentioned" in works from Cambridge and Princeton as one of the most important Latin American poets of her era, but I cannot access one bloody text about her? There are beaucoup book references about her going back into the 1920s, but I cannot open any of them. I sent a request to Sonia Priscila Ticas for her thesis which includes her, but who knows if I will get anything back. Any chance you can access any sources from your side of the world? I don't really like the sources I was forced to use, but I am hoping someone can improve them. SusunW (talk) 21:59, 20 September 2017 (UTC)

I'm not getting any good hits about her when searching from this side. Regarding her works, several show up in Google books, but either as Snippets or No preview, which is just plain wrong, IMO. Huh, Dr. Blofeld? I don't understand why you would say that. Yes, I want to collaborate. I started several Hispanic/Latina women articles over the weekend (Eliana Navarro, Emma de Cartosio, María Luz Morales, Palmira Jaquetti i Isant) and told you I would be doing so (via email) and suggested you jump in if they interested you. If, however, your initial note meant that you and SusunW were asking me to nominate an article at DYK on your behalf, of course I will do so, hassle factor or not. Touché Dr. Blofeld; I assumed you understood that's what I meant. :) Also, these days, they don't only pick holes in the article, they also pick holes in the QPQ, and in other articles that the editor(s) worked on recently. It forces people to spend an inordinate amount of time explaining/fixing stuff. Yes, I am with you on that Rosiestep, too much nitpicky stuff that is focused on minutia. I quit doing DYK when I was asked to verify that Madame and Mrs. were the same when used as a title. The only articles I submit anymore are approved GA and even then, it is more likely than not that your hook will be branded as not interesting or without appeal to a broad enough audience. Dr. Blofeld, SusunW: We could always start a "Women of the Week" page on WiR. A small team of enthusiasts could try to put together a list of, say, three to ten new articles each week for posting on the main WiR page. That would allow former DYK contributors like SusunW, Rosie and Dr. Blofeld to contribute and would hopefully attract more interest in our project. We could start by creating a discussion page with suggestions for candidates based on criteria such as quality of the article (possibly starting at C class), importance/impact of the woman in her field, and her most notable achievements (as a basis for a summary). The format could be along the lines we have used for our lists of women in various fields: name, years of birth and death, summary of most important achievements in her field. Perhaps we could take special account of articles written by new editors or new members of WiR. These are just preliminary suggestions to get the ball rolling. Ipigott: not sure what it means I'm not registered on Commons ;-) I thought I was I have even finalled in the Singapore WikiLoveMonuments some years ago... If I missed a step, please tell me I have contributed thousands of photos, mine and not, and for sure I'd like that is sort of recorded.

SusunW, Rosiestep, Dr. Blofeld, me myself, stopped writing DYK when some specific users started to question 1) why I did not paraphrase more a 1899! article which was correctly sourced with year and link to the screenshot; 2) why I wrote "a woman practiced successfully Homeopathy", that was puffery; 3) why I used a published book from 1893 or 1914 as a source, that was not a reliable source... and so on and so on... I think it's a loss of woman representation in the DYK, but sincerely I do not need that hassle. Since I stopped writing them, my life is more peaceful. I am very proud of my 100wikidays work, and today being my 1 year anniversary of becoming a laureate ("patient"), I feel ready to challenge myself once again, e.g. become a "victim", this time with images rather than articles. I would like to follow your good example on the EN wiki but could never make it as in every 100 day period, I am unable to edit on at least two or three days; the rules clearly specify you are not allowed to catch up.
