Reliable sources

edit

Hi. I wanted to explain why I reverted an edit you made to Vanessa Kirby. Wikipedia has a strict policy on biographies of living people, and we only accept high quality sources in these articles. Websites with user-generated content like the IMDb allow anyone to edit them, much like Wikipedia itself. Especially in biographies, we need reliable sources – sources that have a history of fact checking, issuing corrections, and editorial control. Examples would include newspapers, magazines, and books from reputable publishers. Websites can also be reliable, but they must be staffed by professional journalists. This means self-published blogs, user-generated databases, and geneology websites are not acceptable. Birth dates are often difficult to source to the satisfaction of our policies, which is why you'll sometimes see an approximate age. It is better to have an approximate age that is well sourced than an exact birth date that is poorly sourced. This not only protects the privacy of celebrities but makes it more difficult for potentially false information to make its way into Wikipedia.
