Joe Kelly edit

Hi there, I notice you've been working on the Joe Kelly article, and I'm going to take a stab in the dark and assume you're related to him. If so, can you clear up with just where Joe was born? It seems like so many of the websites on the net say South America, and others say Dublin - it'd be great to have it confirmed, and perhaps why South America ever might have been mentioned if he wasn't actually born there? Thanks in advance, Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:10, 5 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

yes I am Joe's youngest son Redmond, My dad was born in Dublin, not sure why it said anything else, can you help? as I am new to editing on here. I managed to put photos on wiki commons but not sure how to get them to my dads page?

thanks Red

Thanks for that :) I am not very good with photos, but I know a man who is, and I'll leave him a message to get in touch with you. He'll be able to help, I'm sure. Cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:46, 5 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Redmond. Bretonbanquet asked if I could help you with your images, so I'll see what I can do. Once you have an image uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, it is a straightforward process to put it in a Wikipedia article. All you have to do is put the image file name inside two sets of square brackets (e.g. ) for it to be displayed in an article. This will display the image at its full size, so you will also need to add the thumbnail option by doing this: . You can also change the position of an image like so:

You can also add a caption to the image like so:

Sebastian Vettel driving for Scuderia Toro Rosso at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

It would be helpful if you could provide me with a link to the images that you have already uploaded. Please ask me if you have any further questions.--Diniz(talk) 13:00, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Joe Kelly (2) edit

Hello again! Are these two photos the ones you want added to the article? I can do it for you if you like, so you can see how the formatting works.--Diniz(talk) 16:33, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

yes please, been trying for hours, what have i been doing wrong?

I've added both images to the article. You can play around with them to adjust the positioning and captions.--Diniz(talk) 17:40, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
It appears that you only put the filename in double square brackets - you always need to put Image: in front of the file name and in the brackets for it to display properly in an article. You also used the <gallery> </gallery> tags, so nothing was displayed because the text was incorrectly formatted (if you use <gallery> tags, then you don't need square brackets, but you do need the Image: prefix before the file name).

This is how you would add an image without the gallery format:

And with it:

<gallery> Image:Joekelly1951gpsilverstone.jpg|caption </gallery> --Diniz(talk) 18:02, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

No problem; I'm glad I could be of assistance!--Diniz(talk) 21:26, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
