Gold mining edit

Rodeney, thanks for the contributions to the Gold mining article. You seem to have a good source of information for gold mining in various countries, but have not yet included a citation to it. Knowing the reference would be very useful for readers. If you don't know how to cite a reference, please just write it below, and I'll put it in the article. Thanks. Good day, Sir,

The source of information is from a 132 year old geologist, born in 1876, who puiblished his work in 1937.

"Gold Deposits of the World" by William Harvey Emmons, 1937 First Edition

Consulting the http://www.unc.edu/~unclng/public-d.htm - it is noted that the publication, since being published prior to 1963 (71 years ago), is considered in the public domain scheme of things. A further search on http://collections.stanford.edu/copyrightrenewals/bin/page?forward=home - received no hits.

I think the United Kingdom considers public domain status after fifty (50) years of publication. The author has had that long, to do something with it. Allowing the public, to continue on the quest for clarifing the truth, usually is not stymied after that term.

It is hoped, knowing the historical whereabouts of a gold mine, human endeaver can be directed, away from the conflicts of society's pressures - maybe ending poverty in that region. The reference to the war zones of Afganistan, Turkey and Columbia could indeed accomplish just that.

Regards

I don't believe that public domain status is an issue, because you have not copied large blocks of text verbatim. My only concern is to credit Mr. Emmons as the source of the information, and to give Wikipedia readers a starting point for further study. When I get the chance, I will put the citation into the article, unless someone else cares to do so first. Thanks. Plazak (talk) 00:28, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Don't care 'bout the PD bit. I've removed the material as unsourced and severly out of date. The info from Emmons book would possibly be relevant in an article on the history of gold mining or within a historical section on gold mining in each of the mentioned regions. Also, the addition of placer information (presumably from Emmons) to Talk:Placer mining and Talk:Placer deposit seem out of place - did you intend to add the text to the articles? If so, please source properly. Vsmith (talk) 15:57, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
