Ray Rice

Hey, remember our discussion on Ray Rice a couple of years back? Terry Foote (talk) 14:13, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

@Terry Foote:Not particularly, why??--Rockchalk717 16:00, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
It was about two years ago, right when the DV video came out. We had a disagreement about his infobox classification. Your argument was that he should be in the gray color of a "free agent." In retrospect, I can see why you argued for that, but the thing is, Rice hasn't played in one single game since then, because of the indefinite suspension. Maybe it's nitpicking, maybe it isn't, but I think a suspended player should have their own classification on the infobox. To the casual browser, a free agent looks like he's just waiting for a team to pick him up, when as time has shown, Rice's career ended with the indefinite suspension. I think the infobox should more accurately reflect the state of the player's standing, not just the NFL, but all sports. Mind you, since Mrs. Rice forgave her husband, I think the NFL and/or the Ravens should have as well. I don't even think he meant to hurt her, it was simply an automatic response to a split second of feeling threatened. Anyway, I was just wondering what you thought of this idea. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Terry Foote (talkcontribs) 16:29, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
@Terry Foote: Gotcha I remember the discussion now. It's been long enough now I am ok with reflecting him as being retired and I think most people would be. And truthfully back then, I personally thought that at the time somebody would give him another chance eventually but it doesn't look like anyone will. My personal rule of thumb I usually use, if they haven't been on a regular season roster in 2 seasons, I usually go ahead and flip the infobox to retired mode.--Rockchalk717 05:53, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
May I just throw out there that he's no longer suspended? He was reinstated if I'm not mistaken. But yeah, I support the "retired" aspect. I don't think he'll be playing football ever again. (talk page stalker) CrashUnderride 11:16, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
I completely admit this is my own peculiar bias, but I really dislike how other sports sites seem to skirt around suspensions and other disciplinary action. Maybe there's an etiquette I'm unaware of, who knows. I think Wikipedia could really distinguish itself from other websites by having a greater listing of playing statues. BTW, too bad about Rice really. He was a good running back, and from all reports seems like a nice guy. The NFL undoubtedly wants to project an image of being an 21st century organization with a concern for progressive ideology. I sure don't like men who beat women, but seems to me the NFL made an example out of Rice. A shame. Anyway, take care and happy editing Terry Foote (talk) 18:57, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
