Speedy deletion nomination of User:Robert Baer Fidelity Bank/sandbox edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Robert Baer Fidelity Bank/sandbox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.bankwithfidelity.com/about-us/about-fidelity-bank.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Robert Baer Fidelity Bank. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 00:01, 18 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Fidelity Bank Louisiana edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Fidelity Bank Louisiana, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. May 2018 edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for advertising or promotion. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  MER-C 16:08, 19 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

While I do work for Fidelity Bank, and I am not using Wikipedia to advertise products and services. I am using Wikipedia to provide some basic information about the bank. There are no product advertisements on this page, nor will there ever be. Other banks in our market have similar pages, as do other banks across the country. How can I rectify this situation?

Decline reason:

Your claims that you are not using Wikipedia to advertise products and services are contradicted by the content you posted that had gems like to signify our robust product offering and further our commitment to provide quality banking products and services - which is clear and indisputable promotion. I can't unblock you if you're not being honest. Max Semenik (talk) 20:08, 13 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • Hello. I am 331dot and I have been reviewing this block. Please understand that Wikipedia is not a forum to merely tell about a bank or business. There are a few issues here. An important one is that you merely copied the text about your bank from your website. This is a copyright violation and cannot be allowed for legal reasons. There is a process to donate copyrighted materials, but I am fairly sure your bank would not want to do that(due to legal reasons on that end). In any event, original text is much preferred.
Another issue is that you have what Wikipedia calls a conflict of interest in editing about your bank. You are also a paid editor. Please review both of those links; you will then need make the appropriate formal declarations on your user page(once unblocked). In order for you to be successful in writing about your bank, you will need to forget everything you know about it and only write based on what independent sources state about it with in depth coverage. You should not use the bank website, interviews with bank staff, press releases, or any other primary source(except in very limited circumstances). This is usually difficult(though not impossible) for people in your position to do.
More generally, I would add that as an encyclopedia, Wikipedia has no interest in what an article subject wants to say about itself, or how it wants to be portrayed. that especially includes mission statements, which are impossible to independently verify. Wikipedia is only interested in independent reliable sources state about articles subjects, that show how the subject meets the relevant notability guidelines, in this case WP:ORG, those for businesses. Please review those guidelines. In addition, other articles about banks existing, even your competitors, does not automatically mean that yours gets one too. Please see Other stuff exists. Each page is judged on its own merits. Not every business merits an article here, even within the same field.
I would be willing to consider unblocking you(assuming the blocking administrator is OK with it) if you agreed to not directly edit about your bank and tell us what else you are interested in editing about. If you have independent reliable sources about your bank, you may be able to draft an article at Articles for Creation and subsequently make edit requests for further changes- but if you don't, the bank would not merit an article here at this time. If you just want to tell the world about your bank, you will need to do so on social media or elsewhere. If you have any questions about this(I know it's a lot of info, and I apologize), please ask. 331dot (talk) 19:57, 4 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Please note also that you will have to change your username to one which is not intrinsically promotional, as your present one is. Names of companies, organisations, etc are not accepted as usernames. You may, if you wish, change to "Personal name at Robert Baer Fidelity Bank"; or just change to a random invented name. Using your own name is not required. ----Anthony Bradbury"talk" 22:13, 5 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the feedback. I'm working through you suggestions and developing a plan. I reviewed several bank pages and attempted to mirror those with this content (see links below). The content i'm posting looks alot like these - but apparently i'm missing something - maybe it's the references and external links. Need some advice.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Bank_and_Trust

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_One

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hancock_Bank

  • I've already given most of my advice above(and I would strongly endorse Anthony Bradbury's suggestion)- but aside from that, you used "we" throughout your draft. Wikipedia articles should not read as if they were written by the subject(or its employees). 331dot (talk) 19:13, 8 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
    • You appear to be missing the fact that you have been told not to write directly about your bank, as explained in the post above made at 19.57 on June 4th by 331dot.----Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:19, 8 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
