Regarding this edit, the new taskbar pinning functionality replaces the Quick launch shortcuts. Although Quick launch is not removed, it's not available by default. 16-bit applications whose shortcuts are pinned show as a 2nd button when launched so this is a removed feature from the earlier taskbar functionality.
