Proposed deletion of The Plaque, Winnipeg edit

The article The Plaque, Winnipeg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced, no suggestion that this concrete square in a suburban street is at all notable.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The Plaque edit

Sorry to hear you feel that you're being "trampled" by a team of experts who aren't giving you a chance to breathe. In reality we're all just WP:VOLUNTEERs who barely know each other and are applying the same simple policy rules from whatever timezone we happen to briefly check in from. We've possibly been a bit terse (and someone certainly should have explained notability policy to you), but an article whose claim to fame seems to be nothing beyond "man extends driveway with concrete, family refers to it by a French name" doesn't require a great deal of counterargument.

WP:ALTERNATIVE has some useful links to other places that can host content, if you want to document your family history somewhere online. --McGeddon (talk) 09:47, 22 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Notability is a clear bright line: Wikipedia's general notability guideline simply requires evidence that the driveway has received "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". If no such sources exist, then the article is inevitably going to be deleted in a day or two, no matter how much detail you're able to provide about the neighbourhood and the city and the cultural context. I'd recommend taking a copy and hosting it somewhere else, and working on it there.
Here are a few reasons why it's good for Wikipedia to exist alongside your hardback copy of Brittanica. All article content is also released under a CC-Attribution licence, meaning that educators worldwide can freely reuse article text (and most of the images) in any context at no cost, which is a big deal to me. --McGeddon (talk) 16:22, 22 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I'm not confusing anything, I'm just using the jargon noun that Wikipedia has decided to use and giving you a link to clarify what I'm talking about. Whatever you want to call it, your driveway doesn't appear to have it. --McGeddon (talk) 18:34, 23 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
