KERI and KERN edit

I went ahead and took off the image logos, since the stations are at different frequencies. Didn't even know the stations had swapped frequencies. Just wanted to let you know. I left a summary. It would make since to take of the image logos, until the stations put a new one up. On the KERN website, it says to ignore the old image logo that's up anyway. So, when you see that the stations have a new image logo on their websites, we can get a new image logo up. Just wanted you to be aware, so if you edit the article, you're not wondering what happened to the image logo.--JoeCool950 (talk) 08:06, 10 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:WMOJ-949.png) edit

Thanks for uploading File:WMOJ-949.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:09, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

File:WMOJ-949.png listed for deletion edit

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, File:WMOJ-949.png, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Thanks edit

Thank-you for removing the news/talk template on KERI. If I would have noticed that, then that would have been taken off. I put it on the new KERN.--JoeCool950 (talk) 06:50, 15 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

WATZ edit

Just wanted to drop you a quick note as a heads up. I do a lot of radio/TV-related disambiguation work and, about a month-and-a-half ago, I created a new disambiguation template and an associated disambiguation category to help make it a little easier. The new template is Template:callsigndis, which you can use instead of Template:disambig on any pages that only include radio or TV station call signs. If there's more than that on the page — an airport ICAO code, for example — then you'd still use Template:disambig, but you'd also add Category:Broadcast call sign disambiguation pages.

The template gives this type of disambiguation page, of which there are a lot, a little visibility. The category can also be easily compared against the main dab category to see when new pages have been created that might need to be scrubbed of incoming links, or watchlisted to make sure that they don't get messed up — I've found it really helpful so far.

Anyway, I've replaced the template on WATZ, and also reformatted it slightly so that it's in line with most of the other similar pages. Mlaffs (talk) 06:22, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

KHTY edit

Not sure yet, but since I'm from the area, I just heard that KHTY is now a sports station. I just updated it to the best of my ability. Don't know yet if the station has changed call letters, so I left that alone. If you'll be able to find that out. I do know it's a sports station, so no need to change that, but just wanted to let you know the latest. You can fix the intro, if you want, to make it make since to readers about the station. If the intro looks good to you, then let me know. Just wanted to let you know what's up with this station now. Don't know if the have a website yet. I think they're in the process, or may have just changed formats. Gotta see if I can get this station to come in. I live in a mountain community close to Bakersfield, so the AM stations don't come in too well. I'll see if I can get more info about the station though too. Thanks. --JoeCool950 (talk) 05:59, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

KBKO edit

KBKO in Santa Barbara needs to be changed somehow. KBKO doesn't exsist in Santa Barbara. You can see what I'm trying to do. KBKO is now KIST. If you click on KIST, you can see what's going on. We need to somehow make 1490 the KIST page, or something. You can read KIST (AM) and let me know what you think. Someone tried to fix it like I tried to but in the intro, changed KBKO to KIST on the KBKO page, that's how I knew something was up. It really needs to be fixed up to show that KIST is now on 1490 and that 1340 is KCLU. Let me know if I did 1340 right. Just need to get 1490 right for KIST now. Thanks. --JoeCool950 (talk) 07:35, 3 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

KBKO edit

I'm guessing now, the station doesn't simulcast now KTMS, since KIST has it's own website (http://www.sbprogressivetalk.com), so I'm going to take that out of the introduction about it simulcasting KTMS. That would be misleading to the readers. I can totally understand why you put the info about KTMS on there, since it said it simulcasted, but clearly, with the KIST new website, it clearly means AM 1490 KIST isn't simulcasting now. I put the replaced the website you had on there and put (http://www.sbprogressivetalk.com) in it's place. So, once they make the move, then everything will be correct now. Thanks for your help.--JoeCool950 (talk) 02:33, 4 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

[[KIST (AM)

It's all fixed now. I put KCLU (AM) on the Santa Barbara page, if you noticed. Thought it should be on there. I also fixed where it says 1340 and directed it to KCLU (AM) instead of KCLU-FM.--JoeCool950 (talk) 04:48, 5 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey smarty-pants. before accusing me of copyright violation and threatening me with a block, you need to do your homework. What were my contributions to this article? How many other people contributed to this article and what were there contributions. Did somebody copy from this website? Or Was it the Other Way Around? Preetikapoor0 (talk) 00:55, 3 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

The bottom line is you created the article and it was tagged for copyright infringement and that's all the copyvio message states, it never "accuses" you of anything nor does it "threaten" you with anything, it's a template message that I'm actually requested to add to the article creator's talk page when tagging for speedy delete. Whoever wrote the text in the article first (you or the website) is irrelevant because of this: "Copyright © 2008.All rights are reserved by www. IPLBlast.com", that's all that matters. As the article's creator you got the copyvio message as a courtesy so you could contest the speedy delete, which you never did. Nowhere does the copyvio message threaten to ban you and in fact gives you suggestions on how to keep the article from being deleted in the future.RobDe68 (talk) 02:16, 3 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

WKYC and other TV call signs edit

WKYC-TV in Cleveland did not change its call letters -- it modified its call sign to remove the -TV suffix. This is not a change because the main four letters stayed the same. The same can be said for Atlanta's WAGA-TV, which has reinstated the -TV after about a decade or so without it. While they did officially get this done through the FCC, please recognize the fact that these modifications are NOT CALL LETTER CHANGES. Thank you. 70.23.151.170 (talk) 06:06, 17 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

In case the anonymous editor who left this note is still watching this page, please note that the call sign is made up of the entire character set — it's not simply the first three or four characters, with a suffix appended. When a station's call sign assignment is WKYC-TV and their call sign assignment is changed to WKYC, that is a change of call signs, as noted and reported by the FCC. For reference, please see the FCC's most recent call sign actions report. There are a series of entries on the last page for situations exactly the same as this one, where a station whose call sign is in the form XXXX-TV receives a change of call sign to XXXX. As you can see from this report and from their website directly, the FCC does not distinguish between "changes" and "modifications", and any attempt to do so within Wikipedia would be considered original research.
As such, reflecting the most recent change of call signs for WKYC and for WAGA-TV (as just two examples) within their articles here is appropriate. If you disagree with this convention, you would be best served by seeking consensus for your opinion with the Television Stations Project (and the Radio Stations Project as well, as the same issue would exist for radio stations). In the meantime, edit warring to prevent this properly referenced change is not appropriate. Mlaffs (talk) 13:24, 17 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Note — I'm copying this discussion to the talk page for the IP address noted above. Mlaffs (talk) 13:36, 17 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
In the past, the consensus is that removing or adding a suffix does not constitute a whole change, though there have been some editors who feel differently about it. Personally, I feel it's redundant. And it's not "original research" as you claim it to be -- rather, it's common sense. The station is still WKYC, with or without the -TV attached to it, and it's been that way since June 1965; whereas WAGA has never had a different set of call letters in its 60-year history. Sometimes, we need to use plain old common sense here. 70.23.188.43 (talk) 15:53, 17 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I can't speak to whether that's been consensus or not, although I can certainly say that it's not how I've ever seen it applied in practice. Regardless, our most reliable source for referencing this type of information is the FCC, and if they consider these to be changes of call signs, we ignore them at our peril.
Also, I too am a big fan of common sense. Common sense would dictate that the "-TV attached to it" is an integral component of the call sign, if for no other reason than the fact that it makes it possible for KCBS, KCBS-FM, and KCBS-TV all to exist at the same time.
All that aside, since you've chosen not to raise the discussion at the relevant projects as suggested, I'll start that discussion instead. Your participation would be more than appreciated. In the meantime, I'll say once more that edit warring to revert this properly referenced content is not appropriate and, as you've now hit three reverts, I'd respectfully ask that you let the discussion play out before you edit these articles further; otherwise, you run the risk of being blocked. Mlaffs (talk) 17:44, 17 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Discussion initiated at Wikipedia_talk:TVS#Call_sign_changes_involving_addition_or_removal_of_suffix. Mlaffs (talk) 18:23, 17 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
The point is mute as the consensus he is referring to is regarding whether the "-TV" suffix is dropped from the station ID, and I explained that fact, quite politely I might add, on his anonymous IP talk pages. The official call sign is the official call sign and thus a different matter. This dude has just got it in his head that it's not important but the naming convention says different. RobDe68 (talk) 05:25, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
And since you brought up WAGA-TV, let me point out that it does include the change in suffix in its call sign history, the very same change that you keep reverting. You are simply mixing up consensus for station IDs that drop the suffix and when it officially drops it via FCC call sign change. It's listed in the FCC Call sign history, thus it is indeed an official call sign change no matter how much you don't want it to be. RobDe68 (talk) 05:30, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
