I am glad you are against NATO membership and I wish you could succeed in your aim to keep Croatia out. But I fear the tide is running against you. There is a press release on the NATO website http://nato.mfa.hr/?mv=225&mh=52 which quotes a survey in June 2007 showing that 52 per cent of people support joining with only 23 per cent against. Whether this is true or not, it will be used to help build up a bandwagon effect. John Pilger had a big documentary on mainstream British TV last week showing the true nature of the US "empire." I hope it was (or will be) shown in Croatia as well. Since World War II the USA has destabilised the governments of 50 countries, many of them democracies, and have bombed 30 of them! About that survey it has been very interesting discussion in Croatia. Point is that in the end it is not important. In every state you are having minimal 10 - 20 % of persons which are doing what state say. Other 10 - 20 % will do what they think majority of people think it is wise, and in the end I am sure that Croatia will enter NATO. Funny situation is how our prime minister speak that people support NATO and referndum is not needed. He has been saying that even after this popular NATO "support". We are now in election time and future prime minister (everybody think that he will win) is speaking about need for referendum. I am afraid that if he win he will speak lite today prime minister: "referendum is not needed because people support NATO".
