Hello, first I apologize if I'm not communicating to you in the correct way, however there were recently made edits to NY Mets Pitcher Kevin McGowan's page. They were removed due to not having any sources, understandably. I can not provide any real citations, however if you can look where my IP address is from (If that's even a thing) you'd see I'm in Nashua, NH where Kevin is from. In fact, he was siting next to me when I made the edits. I can see if I have any old photos laying around that I can upload if it helps prove the info. Thank you!

Well, unfortunately, you'll have to get a published source to be able to add that info. Plus, there are some problems with what you said anyways. First off, it wasn't written like an encyclopedia. For example, don't say hone. I do have one solution, though. If the subject themselves self-publishes something, if there is no doubt that it was written by the person, then you can use it. But, you cannot make any claims that are exceptional (like one that isn't really believable) or any claims about other people (like their parents). So, if you can do that, then add back in the stuff that I didn't say you couldn't with a source (inside ref tags, like this: <ref>Source</ref>). RileyBugz^会話_投稿記録 21:28, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi, many thanks for looking at my draft article on Magog Down. I'm stumped to know where to find what you would class as "a reliable source" for the existence of this piece of land and its name? It was obviously all in the news at the time the land was bought (in 1989) but none of those articles are now searchable online (or not in any simple way that I know of). The land is registered to the charitable company Magog Trust - would you expect a link to the Land Registry? (But they charge for such information, as far as I can tell, don't just leave it searchable.)

Clarification

Hi, I just wanted to clarify something for you based on your voter guide because you seem to have misinterpreted my comment. You have pointed to a spot on my archive and said that is the block I am standing by. That is not the comment I stand by. It's clear from your statement that you didn't understand my answer. Also, Guy Macon wasn't blocked, and I really have no idea what he's doing in your statement. As for your comment re: antisemitism, can you imagine if someone made a comment about a black, women, Muslim, and that person said, "I don't know if you meant it, but your comment came off as being anti-black, women, Muslim?" Don't you think the civil response would be "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it in any bad way and if you perceive it as such, I apologize and I will edit my comment?" I have emailed that comment and context to many people and 99% of the people shared the concern I had. Regardless, I wanted to set the record straight with regards to the block comment. @Sir Joseph: In relation to the anti-semitic thing, I was more talking about your tone. Sure, its fine to address those things, but you should have been a bit less accusatory about it (not to justify the other person's comments; they certainly weren't right at all). And, as for Guy Macon, I mentioned him because you 1. implied that you stood by that comment (see Boing!'s 3rd question for you) and 2. never said otherwise. It is not violation of WP:BLP. Please read the front page of WP:AFC. This is what it says at: Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Reviewing instructions. It says in the coloured box:

• Yes, it will probably be kept. Then ACCEPT it now. (You can tag non-deletion-worthy problems.)

The guy is also memeber of the Royal Society, which is the premier scientific society in the UK. By any definition of WP:AFD, it would have passed an automatic snow keep by everybody. The whole process of WP:AFC is to gate to check articles for notabilty. If they are verifiable, then pushed on. If they are not verifiable, then tag them. It took me a bit, until I went through this process as well. I was hoping to have shiny brand articles out of it, fully ref's and linked, but doesn't work like that. Guideline and policy news

• Following a request for comment, a new section has been added to the username policy which disallows usernames containing emoji, emoticons or otherwise "decorative" usernames, and usernames that use any non-language symbols. Administrators should discuss issues related to these types of usernames before blocking.

Technical news

• Wikimedians are now invited to vote on the proposals in the 2017 Community Wishlist Survey on Meta Wiki until 10 December 2017. In particular, there is a section of the survey regarding new tools for administrators and for anti-harassment.
• A new function is available to edit filter managers which can be used to store matches from regular expressions.

Arbitration

• Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is open until Sunday 23:59, 10 December 2017 (UTC). There are 12 candidates running for 8 vacant seats.

Miscellaneous

• Over the last few months, several users have reported backlogs that require administrator attention at WP:ANI, with the most common backlogs showing up on WP:SPI, WP:AIV and WP:RFPP. It is requested that all administrators take some time during this month to help clear backlogs wherever possible. It should be noted that AIV reports are not always valid; however, they still need to be cleared, which may include needing to remind users on what qualifies as vandalism.
• The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative is conducting a survey for English Wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works (i.e. which problems it deals with well and which problems it struggles with). ArbCom 2017 election voter message

All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Thanks for reviewing. I submitted a question elsewhere, I believe. Very new to the Wikipedia environment. My question is, would it be possible to get a bit more detail or any tips as far as what you think I should remove from the article? A company that is similar to FBBC has a Wiki page and they ultimately have the same kind of content and we even have similar links -> Orange Theory Fitness. I essentially utilizes Orange Theory's Wiki to create a draft for FBBC. Also, is the graph on the right with the information generated by Wikipedia or is that something we create when viewing the Orange Theory Fitness wiki page, includes their logo?

@Lloan: First off, the Orange Theory Fitness article is a bad model to go off of. As for what you should remove, there are a good amount of things. First, look at this list to see terms that are usually just to promote the subject. If you see any of them in your article, then they should probably be removed. But, I think that your problem is really that the article almost needs to be fundamentally rewritten. If you want an example to go off of, go see the McDonald's article, or something similar, to get an idea of what an acceptable article should look like (although yours certainly doesn't have to be that long). It introduces the subject, tells you who founded it, where, but not why it was founded. As for creating the box at the right, you can fill in a template (Template:Infobox company, in this case) to get it. If you need help with anything else, just ask. This edit does not have reliable sources. The book reference, using the word "healing" about honey, is spam (see WP:MEDRS for sources in context of human health), and references to the Quran and an ancient prophet are not reliably objective or documented, i.e., not WP:RS. --Zefr (talk) 16:51, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

I have reworked the article, included sources from different news sites and removed anything that sounds subjective. I removed anything that looked like promotional text. @Lloan: There are still some problems. First off, there are still a lot of unreliable sources, specifically press releases. Second off, there are still some things that aren't very neutral, but this time, it is whole sentences. For example, "The main goal of each session is to burn calories and foster a team environment where each session is both fun and effective", isn't very neutral. Finally, you should not source things like charity work to the subject itself. If they are not mentioned by independent sources, remove them, and if so, cite those sources. Hope that helps. @Lloan: To be honest, the company just doesn't seem to be notable. This basically means that there will probably not be an article until more articles on the company are released and found. @RileyBugz: I see. Just out of curiosity, are the sources I used like 'inc. magazine', 'Fox6Now', 'Fox17', 'wzzm13', 'kdlt', 'entrepreneur' - are any of those suitable? I suppose that's what has me confused the most. This company has appeared on the news all over the place, so I think I'm just really confused, lol. I don't know about birds, but my wife has almost 10 that don't let me sleep, they're always singing. Thanks for your time RileyBugz!

@Lloan: Ahh... I don't have any; I like to just watch how they behave. Anyways, I don't really regard Fox News as a reliable source (and most on the site agree with me on this point). @RileyBugz: Thanks for pointing those out. Very much appreciated. I managed to find a couple more, ranging from WTOL, WDBJ7, WJLA, Globalnews, WSLS and UTV44. I've added those sources for specific sections: individual location challenges, modified workouts based on fitness level, battle ropes, schedule variations by location, type of workouts, etc. Hopefully these are good enough sources! Then I can move along and start writing about birds! Lol.

Almost there... you now have to remove the things that are not sourced to independent sources. The only acceptable use of the company website (at least as I see it) is to establish the name of the company. But, since that doesn't seem to be a problem, that source should be removed, as should the press releases (including what they cite, of course). RileyBugz^会話_投稿記録 12:02, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

Oh, sorry for the late reply. I don't really know about the two sources you mentioned. I'd say they're probably ok, though. Now you need to do a bit of cleanup. You should probably remove some unneeded information, though. For example, one doesn't really need to know what they don't provide (see the second-to-last sentence in franchising). Also, one doesn't need to know when the locations are open. Finally, you need to remove everything that isn't cited by a source. Hopefully that helps. Good luck! @Golden tamarin: Hello! It seems that all of the sources are either press releases or don't mention the company, except the fourth citation. This means that you have to find new sources; remember, use reliable sources independent from the company. @Golden tamarin: A bit better, but there is only one reliable source: the TechCrunch article. The first citation doesn't help at all because it only mentions it once, and doesn't even dedicate a full sentence to it. This is the same for the second citation. The third citation is of dubious reliability, and the fourth is just a routine announcement. This doesn't mean that you can't use them all as sources; the first, second, and fourth citation don't need to be removed. But, you need to use more of those independent reliable sources. Nok (genus)

Hi. Thanks for setting up that redirect from Nok (genus) to P. hualon. I've followed up an earlier note I left on the talk page of the article creator, asking them to supply full details of any published research which demonstrates a legitimately publish new taxon. The abstract mentions a new genus, but doesn't name it od demonstrate a validly published name. If they can't do that, then I'm sure you'd agree the page and redirect needs deleting entirely, as it otherwise gives validity to a genus which may not exist. Conversely, it may be that evidence emerges which shows a valid monotypic genus. I'll keep you informed of any response (or otherwise) that I may get. Yeah, I'd agree that if they can't even give evidence that the genus is considered valid by anybody, then it should be deleted. Just to be clear, though, the bird WikiProject has a consensus that we should use the IOC binomial and common name. I don't think you were thinking about changing the scientific name in the article on the bare-faced bulbul, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks, by the way, for informing me! • An RfC has closed with a consensus that candidates at WP:RFA must disclose whether they have ever edited for pay and that administrators may never use administrative tools as part of any paid editing activity, except when they are acting as a Wikipedian-in-Residence or when the payment is made by the Wikimedia Foundation or an affiliate of the WMF.
• Editors responding to threats of harm can now contact the Wikimedia Foundation's emergency address by using Special:EmailUser/Emergency. If you don't have email enabled on Wikipedia, directly contacting the emergency address using your own email client remains an option.

Technical news

• A tag will now be automatically applied to edits that blank a page, turn a page into a redirect, remove/replace almost all content in a page, undo an edit, or rollback an edit. These edits were previously denoted solely by automatic edit summaries.

Arbitration

• The Arbitration Committee has enacted a change to the discretionary sanctions procedure which requires administrators to add a standardized editnotice when placing page restrictions. Editors cannot be sanctioned for violations of page restrictions if this editnotice was not in place at the time of the violation.

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello RileyBugz, thank you for your efforts in reviewing new pages!

The NPP backlog at the end of the drive with the number of unreviewed articles by creation date. Red is older than 90 days, orange is between 90 and 30 days old, and green is younger than 30 days.

Backlog update:

• The new page backlog is currently at 3819 unreviewed articles, with a further 6660 unreviewed redirects.
• We are very close to eliminating the backlog completely; please help by reviewing a few extra articles each day!

New Year Backlog Drive results:

• We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!

General project update:

• ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.
• Reviewing redirects is an important and necessary part of New Page Patrol. Please read the guideline on appropriate redirects for advice on reviewing redirects. Inappropriate redirects can be re-targeted or nominated for deletion at RfD.

Guideline and policy news

• The autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) is scheduled to end on 14 March 2018. The results of the research collected can be read on Meta Wiki.
• Community ban discussions must now stay open for at least 24 hours prior to being closed.
• A change to the administrator inactivity policy has been proposed. Under the proposal, if an administrator has not used their admin tools for a period of five years and is subsequently desysopped for inactivity, the administrator would have to file a new RfA in order to regain the tools.
• A change to the banning policy has been proposed which would specify conditions under which a repeat sockmaster may be considered de facto banned, reducing the need to start a community ban discussion for these users.

Technical news

• CheckUsers are now able to view private data such as IP addresses from the edit filter log, e.g. when the filter prevents a user from creating an account. Previously, this information was unavailable to CheckUsers because access to it could not be logged.
• The edit filter has a new feature contains_all that edit filter managers may use to check if one or more strings are all contained in another given string.

Obituaries

ACTRIAL - next steps for the Future of AfC & NPP

Hello RileyBugz, thank you for your efforts reviewing New Page and AfC submissions and your support for the ACTRIAL initiative.

The conclusion to the ACTRIAL report commissioned by the Wikimedia Foundation strongly reiterates our long-time on going requirements for the NPP and AfC processes to be improved. Within minutes of the trial being switched off, the feed was swamped with inappropriate creations and users are being blocked already.
This is now the moment to continue to collaborate with the WMF and their developers to bring the entire Curation system up to date by making a firm commitment to addressing the list of requirements to the excellent suite of tools the WMF developed for Curation. Some of these are already listed at Phabricator but may need a boost.
The conclusions also make some recommendations for AfC.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

• The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
• Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies. A further discussion is currently taking place at: Can a subject specific guideline invalidate the General Notability Guideline?

Nominate competent users for Autopatrolled

• While patrolling articles, if you find an editor that is particularly competent at creating quality new articles, and that user has created more than 25 articles (rather than stubs), consider nominating them for the 'Autopatrolled' user right HERE.

• Administrators who have been desysopped due to inactivity are now required to have performed at least one (logged) administrative action in the past 5 years in order to qualify for a resysop without going through a new RfA.
• Editors who have been found to have engaged in sockpuppetry on at least two occasions after an initial indefinite block, for whatever reason, are now automatically considered banned by the community without the need to start a ban discussion.
• The notability guideline for organizations and companies has been substantially rewritten following the closure of this request for comment. Among the changes, the guideline more clearly defines the sourcing requirements needed for organizations and companies to be considered notable.
• The six-month autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) ended on 14 March 2018. The post-trial research report has been published. A request for comment is now underway to determine whether the restrictions from ACTRIAL should be implemented permanently.

Technical news

• There will soon be a calendar widget at Special:Block, making it easier to set expiries for a specific date and time.

Arbitration

• The Arbitration Committee is considering a change to the discretionary sanctions procedures which would require an editor to appeal a sanction to the community at WP:AE or WP:AN prior to appealing directly to the Arbitration Committee at WP:ARCA.

Miscellaneous

• A discussion has closed which concluded that administrators are not required to enable email, though many editors suggested doing so as a matter of best practice.
• The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team has released the Interaction Timeline. This shows a chronologic history for two users on pages where they have both made edits, which may be helpful in identifying sockpuppetry and investigating editing disputes.

How about this example: in covering the first human landing on the moon, Walter Cronkite said, "... it still seems like a dream." Guideline and policy news

• The ability to create articles directly in mainspace is now indefinitely restricted to autoconfirmed users.
• A proposal is being discussed which would create a new "event coordinator" right that would allow users to temporarily add the "confirmed" flag to new user accounts and to create many new user accounts without being hindered by a rate limit.

Technical news

• AbuseFilter has received numerous improvements, including an OOUI overhaul, syntax highlighting, ability to search existing filters, and a few new functions. In particular, the search feature can be used to ensure there aren't existing filters for what you need, and the new equals_to_any function can be used when checking multiple namespaces. One major upcoming change is the ability to see which filters are the slowest. This information is currently only available to those with access to Logstash.
• When blocking anonymous users, a cookie will be applied that reloads the block if the user changes their IP. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. This currently only occurs when hard-blocking accounts.
• The block notice shown on mobile will soon be more informative and point users to a help page on how to request an unblock, just as it currently does on desktop.
• There will soon be a calendar widget at Special:Block, making it easier to set expiries for a specific date and time.

• The Arbitration Committee is seeking additional clerks to help with the arbitration process.

• Lankiveil (Craig Franklin) passed away in mid-April. Lankiveil joined Wikipedia on 12 August 2004 and became an administrator on 31 August 2008. During his time with the Wikimedia community, Lankiveil served as an oversighter for the English Wikipedia and as president of Wikimedia Australia.

• WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

• Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

• A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

• There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Not English

• A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

• Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.

Guideline and policy news

• Following a successful request for comment, administrators are now able to add and remove editors to the "event coordinator" group. Users in the event coordinator group have the ability to temporarily add the "confirmed" flag to new user accounts and to create many new user accounts without being hindered by a rate limit. Users will no longer need to be in the "account creator" group if they are in the event coordinator group.
• Following an AN discussion, all pages with content related to blockchain and cryptocurrencies, broadly construed, are now under indefinite general sanctions.

Technical news

• IP-based cookie blocks should be deployed to English Wikipedia in June. This will cause the block of a logged-out user to be reloaded if they change IPs. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. For the time being, it only affects users of the desktop interface.
• The Wikimedia Foundation's Anti-Harassment Tools team will build granular types of blocks in 2018 (e.g. a block from uploading or editing specific pages, categories, or namespaces, as opposed to a full-site block). Feedback on the concept may be left at the talk page.
• There is now a checkbox on Special:ListUsers to let you see only users in temporary user groups.
• It is now easier for blocked mobile users to see why they were blocked.

Arbitration

• A recent technical issue with the Arbitration Committee's spam filter inadvertently caused all messages sent to the committee through Wikipedia (i.e. Special:EmailUser/Arbitration Committee) to be discarded. If you attempted to send an email to the Arbitration Committee via Wikipedia between May 16 and May 31, your message was not received and you are encouraged to resend it. Messages sent outside of these dates or directly to the Arbitration Committee email address were not affected by this issue.

Miscellaneous

• In early May, an unusually high level of failed login attempts was observed. The WMF has stated that this was an "external effort to gain unauthorized access to random accounts". Under Wikipedia policy, administrators are required to have strong passwords. To further reinforce security, administrators should also consider enabling two-factor authentication. A committed identity can be used to verify that you are the true account owner in the event that your account is compromised and/or you are unable to log in.

Ah yes, because it is impossible for me to find other sources that include information on the studio Ah yes, because there aren't other Japanese animation studios that have FEWER sources, something like Nexus. This removal is actually pretty unnecessary. There are pages on Pine Jam, TROYCA, or GoHands? Dude, ANN News is a reliable source because they take information from official sources, in Japanese, and translate them into English for the English speaking audience. The other studios I mentioned aren't deserving of deletion either. Every time you delete VOLN's page I'm just going to remake it with more sources and more information. Another cool thing to mention is, well, it doesn't really need a stated reason for why it's important. I mean, some anime companies do, some don't. In this case, it really doesn't need it. The works its done, the ones that are linked on Wikipedia, is pretty much enough reason. Sorry for not posting everything in one post, but since you aren't doing the same, I'm worried about edit conflicts. Anyways, since there isn't any significant mention of the company, it is not really good enough. Although I messed up in saying ANN isn't reliable (although certain parts aren't; see WP:A&M/RS), I feel as if what I have noted above makes the article you created still eligible for speedy deletion. Also, in response to your last comment, I'm not an admin, and the fact that it is young doesn't signal anything bad, it just means is might not be suitable for Wikipedia yet. Guideline and policy news

• An RfC about the deletion of drafts closed with a consensus to change the wording of WP:NMFD. Specifically, a draft that has been repeatedly resubmitted and declined at AfC without any substantial improvement may be deleted at MfD if consensus determines that it is unlikely to ever meet the requirements for mainspace and it otherwise meets one of the reasons for deletion outlined in the deletion policy.
• A request for comment closed with a consensus that the {{promising draft}} template cannot be used to indefinitely prevent a WP:G13 speedy deletion nomination.

Technical news

• Starting on July 9, the WMF Security team, Trust & Safety, and the broader technical community will be seeking input on an upcoming change that will restrict editing of site-wide JavaScript and CSS to a new technical administrators user group. Bureaucrats and stewards will be able to grant this right per a community-defined process. The intention is to reduce the number of accounts who can edit frontend code to those who actually need to, which in turn lessens the risk of malicious code being added that compromises the security and privacy of everyone who accesses Wikipedia. For more information, please review the FAQ.
• Syntax highlighting has been graduated from a Beta feature on the English Wikipedia. To enable this feature, click the highlighter icon () in your editing toolbar (or under the hamburger menu in the 2017 wikitext editor). This feature can help prevent you from making mistakes when editing complex templates.

• Currently around 20% of admins have enabled two-factor authentication, up from 17% a year ago. If you haven't already enabled it, please consider doing so. Regardless if you use 2FA, please practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.
