Welcome

edit

Hello, Ricky Simms, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been reverted for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of deletion, you might like to draft your article before submission, then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. It is also worth noting that Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which specifically link them to one company or corporation. If your username does have such a name, it would be advisable for you to request a change of username.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Muhandes (talk) 06:28, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately your recent edits have given the impression that your intention on Wikipedia is to promote PACE sports management and yourself. I appreciate that this is probably unintentional, but after years of experience of people trying to use Wikipedia as a free source of advertising by abusing our charitably donated resources we tend to shoot first, ask questions later. Consequently your adding of the PACE website link, coming as it does under our definition of spamming, has been reverted.

Additionally, you have a clear conflict of interest in the areas you edit - especially in contributing to the Ricky Simms article. From the linked guideline page: "COI editing is strongly discouraged. When editing causes disruption to the encyclopedia through violation of policies such as neutral point of view, what Wikipedia is not, and copyright compliance, accounts may be blocked. COI editing also risks causing public embarrassment for the individuals and groups being promoted. Editing in the interests of public relations is particularly frowned upon ... Wikipedia is a very public forum, and news of what occurs here is frequently reported in the media. "Anything you say here and anything you do here can have real world consequences. (See: Wikipedia is in the real world)." Generally we advise editors not to edit anything they have a personal stake in.

Regarding the article Ricky Simms, there's no real indication that the article belongs in an encyclopedia so I've nominated it to be discussed for deletion (link on the article). This is in no way an aspersion on you or the work you do, simply that we have to set some limits on the subjects we cover and in Wikipedia terms articles stand or fall on their notability. Notability isn't about fame or importance, it just means that the subject has been written about in depth by someone unconnected with it. This is established by significant coverage by sources independent of the subject, which the article lacks. Again, please don't take this as a criticism of you in any way - many extremely worthy people don't meet our biographical notability criteria.

If you wish to contribute to Wikipedia, the best way to do so in areas where you have a COI would be for you to make suggestions on the article talk pages rather than edit the articles themselves. Uninvolved editors will give your suggestions due attention and they will be added to the articles (or not) as consensus determines. It would be helpful if you could also disclose your COI where relevant and provide a reliable source for your information. As well as being a core site editorial policy, reliable sources are particularly important in dealing with the biographical articles of living people, due to the potential for harm that could be caused by wrong or poorly-sourced information. As the representation for the athletes involved, unfortunately I don't believe the PACE website can be considered a reliable source other than for quoting it's own claims about itself. However, you are welcome to raise that for discussion at the reliable sources noticeboard if you wish.

I hope the above helps explain a little about how Wikipedia works and why. If you need any more information or assistance you can leave a message on my user talkpage (linked in my signature). Regards, EyeSerenetalk 14:31, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Update: After some rooting around it looks like there won't be much of a problem establishing notability for PACE Sports Management, so I've started an article for your company (at that link). It's work in progress at the moment so my apologies for any roughness around the edges. The deletion discussion for Ricky Simms has suggested redirecting that article to PACE Sports Management, which might be the best solution all round as there's probably enough source material for a brief bio of you in the PACE article. Your advice/assistance etc would be very welcome, especially in providing more detail on the history of the company (bearing in mind the COI mentioned above; talk-page suggestions are probably better than editing the article). You can get to any article talk page by clicking on the "discussion" link at the top of the page. Regards, EyeSerenetalk 16:52, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

I remind you that due to your obvious COI, talk-page suggestions are probably better than editing the article. This is especially true when removing an entire section. --Muhandes (talk) 18:42, 14 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from File:PACE Sports Management logo.jpg. When removing content, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the content has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Please don't remove material without supplying a reason. In this case the material you removed is substantial as free usage material cannot be used without free usage rationale Muhandes (talk) 18:39, 14 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
