ArbCom 2017 election voter message edit
Hello, Richardjames444. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

I saw your comment on the Sockpuppet investigation page. I suggest teaching students a moderate approach; a new WP editor should probably not be adding 15,000 bytes to a single article in a single go, nor removing large chunks of the article. Clean Copytalk 22:11, 10 December 2017 (UTC)
On the other hand, we operate on the principle of being bold- the new content was developed as a class project and marked up prior to being added. There's no reason why new sections need to be added piecemeal to articles when they're high quality and expanding the article in a positive way. This is the kind of over-reaction that drives new editors away and detracts from our continual struggle to expand a diverse contributor base and to make wikipedia less unfriendly and toxic.
- In my opinion, the additions are not WP-ready. They could be made so, of course, by following WP guidelines in a variety of areas, and by editing the content to be more NPOV. Clean Copytalk 22:24, 10 December 2017 (UTC)
- Then build consensus don't just wipe out their work and whatever interest they might have in the future in WP. Engaging and talking with new users are how we will overcome the encyclopedias current baggage regarding diversity and hostility to newbies. We've only been talking about it for 10 years but it doesn't seem to be helping. We could have done this whole thing on the talk page for the article and followed up with them regarding what needed to be done.
