Image copyright problem with Image:Jak_exile.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Jak_exile.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Image copyright problem with Image:R Bush.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:R Bush.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ×Meegs 00:11, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright tags edit

Hello. It has been several days since your last edit, but I would like to caution you about uploading unsuitable copyrighted images, and repeatedly tagging them with inappropriate fair use templates. In this case, note that {{sportsposter}} presents a fair use rationale for the use of promotional posters for sporting events, and {{promotional}} for publicity photos from press kits. Also, in general, it is a good idea to communicate with other editors on talk pages rather then engaging in edit wars.

I'd also like to ask you about Image:Newsheastadium.jpg, Image:Newyankeestadium.jpg. You have indicated that they are both released under the GFDL, but I see nothing on the source web pages to indicate that this is the case. Could you please add the reason you believe this to be the case to the image description pages, or replace the image copyright tags? Thanks. ×Meegs 07:33, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re:Reggie Bush Image edit

The Regie Bush image is deffintly a promotinal image. If you think not plese contact me. Thanks. Ric36 14:27, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

You have not provided information on the original source and copyright holder of the image. As such, you must not remove the {{no source}} template. I am the fourth editor whose edits you have reversed on this image's description page.
Do not remove the tag, or my explanation again until you have provided information on the image's copyright holder, as well as an argument that it meets the definition at Wikipedia:Publicity photos. The source you provided, http://www.reggiebushjr.com/, says "This Reggie Bush web site is in no way affiliated with Reggie Bush Jr". This does not back-up the claim that this image is promotional. Additionally, that site very likely does not own the rights to the images it displays. In order to use the image under the {{Promotional}} rationale, we must know the original source and copyright holder, and know that they have released this image in a press kit, or similar. ×Meegs 14:51, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Can you help me find the correct license please before it gets deleted? Ric36 14:59, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't know where to begin; unless we know the copyright holder, there is absolutely nothing we can do. If the image comes from a press service, like the Associated Press (as Image:Mariowilliams.jpg almost certainly does), then it is completely unsuitable for our purposes. Remember that we are a free content encyclopedia, and we do not go to great lengths or take legal risks to include copyrighted images. If the article is left without an image for a little while, I am confident that someone will provide a free image after not too long. Maybe you can help speed the process: take a look around the internet and see if you can find an amateur photograph of Bush, and ask the owner if they will release the image under a free license, compatible with Wikipedia, such as Creative Commons BY-SA. That's the best advice I can give you. ×Meegs 15:14, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Can you maybe help find one for me? You probally know a lot more about lincences then me. Ric36 15:18, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, with regard to free images, there's not too much to know. We need an author who will permit reuse of their photograph (without educational or non-commercial caveats), as well as derivative works (e.g. edited versions or inclusion in collages). Photographers that work for large corporations, like the AP, Getty Images, or Sports Illustrated, do not personally own the rights to photographs they take at work, and their employers are very unlikely to release such images. Nevertheless, Bush has been attending school and playing in public weekly for several years, so there are no-doubt numerous amateur photographers with images of him. My advice is to find one and ask them to release their work under Creative Commons by-sa. 15:28, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

WookieepediaLogo.png removed from your user page edit

An image or media file, Image:WookieepediaLogo.png, has been removed from your userpage or user talk page because it was licensed as fair use. Wikipedia's fair use policy states that fair use images should only be used in the article namespace. As a result, although users are often given a great amount of latitude in the type of content that is allowed on their user pages, it is requested that you abide by this policy. Feel free, however, to add images and media files licensed under other terms. For more information, see Wikipedia's fair use policy and an accompanying essay on the removal of fair use images. My edits to your userpage edit

I have removed both the practical joke "you have new messages bar" as well as the screenshot of Wookieepedia that you added for the following reasons:

  1. There was a big discussion concerning spoofing the Wikipedia UI a while back, and it was decided that it is wrong to have something such as the "you have new messages" bar on user pages.
  2. It is explicitly forbidden by Wikimedia Foundation policy as well as copyright law for fair use images (such as the Wookieepedia screenshot) anywhere other than articles.

Please heed these, and do not add the items back to your userpage.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 08:46, 17 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:SpongeBob SquarePants.gif) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:SpongeBob SquarePants.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:25, 15 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Redirect of Spargus edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Spargus, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Spargus is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Spargus, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Haven City.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Haven City.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 22:23, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:1936wsprogram.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:1936wsprogram.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Non-free rationale for File:Weeklyreader.jpg edit
