Advice edit

As reviewing administrator, I apologize for the incorrect advice you have been given by an inexperienced editor. The relevant criterion for notability is WP:AUTHOR, and the subject almost certainly meets it. All that is necessary to be added to prove it is references to reviews of his books in 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases (I gather there was one in Publisher's Weekly)

But there is a more important problem,. The biography reads to me like one that has been published elsewhere, and that is not acceptable. I haver not yet found the source, but its the sort of publisher's bio that would be prepared by a press agent. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously; and does not accept material copied from other sources unless it is in the public domain, or released to us under a free license (It is, by the way, not necessary for pages to have a notice to be copyright: everything published on the internet or elsewhere is copyright to the owner of that content unless specified otherwise.)

It might be possible to get permission, but there is no point in doing so--a web site of this sort almost always is unsuitable for WP, because it is usually written as a press release, praising rather than describing the subject and containing material we would not include. It is therefore always better to rewrite. That's the case here, anyway.

This is an encyclopedia, and we structure our biographical articles accordingly. After identifying the author, & indicating the principal ground of notability, we give the basic data; birth place and date, education, including colleges and years, the most important successive positions held in chronological order. Then we give his present position and dates, and a list of his books with full bibliographic details. We mention his other publications--we do not list them. Most of this information is there, but details are missing.

We also give exact references. His bio at the RPA will do for much of this, but the link must be given. His published articles are not references, and some evidence must be provided from outside sites--that's where the book reviews come it., with full bibliographic information. In particular, the section on influence is unacceptable, without third party sources--it gives value judgements about his achievements, and this must be exactly referenced. If there are varying opinion on his work, we cannot just say so--we have to give the full citations, ideally with a very brief quotation. This should be easy to rewrite if you have the information in hand--just do it, and submit again. DGG ( talk ) 00:31, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
