Most has already been written, spent most of the time wikifying and rewording to make it easier for non native speakers. I am proud to say I bought the game two months after it was released in the US (USD 105, only MK2 costed me more, USD 110), as soon as I found it, and will gladly do anything in order to share with others what I believe, along with Final Fantasy VI, the best RPG ever released for any console. -- ReyBrujo 03:32, 4 October 2005 (UTC)

Nintendogs.

Let me explain. Wikipedia is not for guide content. A list of dogs available in which games belongs on Nintendogs' Wikibook. That's what the Wikibooks page is for. - A Link to the Past (talk) 01:51, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

The name of the protagonist belong to the article. Their long description may not. See games like Street Fighter II, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Final Fantasy VI... TV series and movies like Charmed, Lost, The Terminator... The list of dogs is necessary for the user to understand the differences between the games. Where ever did you get the idea that breeds of dogs are considered protoganists? Here, allow me to replace the big list.

Each version has their own default dogs.

In case you didn't realize, in Nintendogs the dogs are the protagonists. Do you think, in example, the Charmed article would be useful saying "The series have a bunch of witches fighting devils." only? -- ReyBrujo 02:30, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

They are not main characters. There is not plot. You are just raising puppies. The fact that you mostly interact with them does not make them main characters. These are generic dogs, not a single dog in the game is programmed to be more important than the other, and no single does has a pre-programmed name that you can get. Anyway, the only difference between the dogs are appearance and, sometimes, whether they need different shampoo and brushes. They are not distinguishable. This information belongs on Wikibooks. The fact of the matter is that going into detail on what dogs are in what game is not important. What is important is to educate them about the game. You gave an argument saying that it should be on Wikipedia because more people go there. We don't put definitions on Wikipedia instead of Wiktionary, do we? - A Link to the Past (talk) 02:40, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Oh, my... that must be one of the worst arguments I have ever read. With it, no game article should have information about characters because they are just the same character with slight modifications. I will call for a survey to solve that conflict. Plagiarism/copyright violation??

Hi, since I wrote nearly every word on the current version of RuneScape cheats I have a hard time seeing how it could be a copyright violation. I've tried hard to make it less instruction manual and more information/knowledge page. As to whether there should be a wikibook, that may be, however, given the number of hits to the page each day I'd say it's a topic that people are interested in and that it deserves a wikipedia page.user:Jonathan888 (talk) 09:12, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

As I stated, it is not copyright violation as in copying the information from another place, but instead, a violation of the RuneScape licence. If you want, I could rewrite the whole article, but it would become quite short as most information would become internal links. An AFD nomination would be used to determine whether other members of the Wikipedia community believe the contents fit Wikipedia or not.

Also, you must use a NPOV approach with the articles. Articles with technical information about something belong to a Wikibook, not to the Wikipedia. It is not a matter of popularity, but instead of whether it fits or not in the Wikipedia definition. And as I said, Wikipedia is not a collection of instruction manuals. The official policy says that articles that include instruction, advice (legal, medical or otherwise, in your case illegal), suggestions, or "how-to" like tutorials, walk-throughs, instruction manuals and recipes should be created in Wikibook, not Wikipedia. Did you even read the article?? Let's take an example at random from the article: 'Two player scams' It has a short, concise description of how the scam works, period, no advice, no names, no point of view, no instructions. Read the rest of the article, if you have issue with the language used being instructional then EDIT IT for Pete's sake. It is definitely not an instruction manual, nor a list, nor a tutorial nor walk through, it discusses the history of RuneScape cheats, countermeasures, current events, etc. If you have any real suggestions on how to make it more encyclopedic I'm all ears and I'll even do the editing. In the meantime I'd appreciate it if you'd be constructive instead of destructive. This article is vandalized at least 10 times a week and having to deal with AFD requests by the company's employees weekly is becoming a pain. Yes, they've basically admitted they work for the company, they delete large sections of the article because it's 'illegal information'. Show me the point of view in the article and I'll edit it again, you don't even have to do the work, I'll do the grunt work, just stop trying to delete.Jonathan888 (talk) 15:01, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

My exact words in the RuneScape Talk Page were or maybe an AFD process due Vandalism (the information stated in the article vandalizes copyrighted work from a third party, which may bring problems to Wikipedia). Note that I talked in potential. The [http://www.runescape.com/lang/en/aff/runescape/terms/terms.ws|terms of services] state that You must not encourage, or attempt to trick other players into breaking our rules. Whether my interpretation that the sections Two person team trade scam, Clan trust test or loyalty test scam and [Alt + F4] scam, item duplication scam may break the rules is right or not, it is questionable and I admit it.

Thank you for the discussion regarding the controller tech

While I disagree with you on certain points, I appreciate the fact that you've remained rational and civil in your replies. THAT'S the spirit of Wiki. By discussing this, as we are, we can come to a logical consensus regarding this. That said, there are a few points I'd like to bring up, that of the Dual Analog's reliance on the technology from the Sony Flightstick and the rumble differences between Sony's controllers and Nintendo's. We may have to request protection of the Rev article

If you noticed, a user named QuackShot just entered the article's discussion section. Quackshot's a sockpuppet of a guy named Brazil4Linux, one created a day or so ago. It's not the first one, of course (200.147.97.92 and 200.151.100.114 are both IP-traced sockpuppets of Brazil4Linux's dialuol.com.br address). He engaged in a massive revert war against myself, GoldDragon, Jedi6 and other contributers to the Kutaragi article, eventually leading to myself requesting protection against it. After that, he's been going around trying to attack each of us; apparently I'm the next target here. Knowing what he did to the discussion about the Kutaragi article, I might request protection on it. Keep in mind that I'd be happy with protection even if it was stuck at a version I personally didn't agree with, I just don't want to have anything to do with this Brazil4Linux guy again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Doom127 (talk • contribs)

Regarding Asuca Hayashi

You made a teeny error while cleaning up the article.

The girl's first name is spelled with a "c". And the name is always repeated in Japanese order with the "conventional" spellings. E.G.

Rey, I have posted a possible Copyright Violation template on this page, because I am concerned that the large qoute from Time of the Twins is a possible violation of copyright laws. I am not exatly sure how qouting of text works in system, however, I somehow doubt that WotC would approve of having a large portion of their work posted on an open-source encyclopedia. Regarding some of your edits to Playstation Portable, I figured in case you are unaware, I'd let you know that dates are rendered according to your prefs. For example: [[January 9]] and [[9 January]] appear as January 9 and 9 January, which will appear identical if you have chosen a preferred format at the Special:Preferences page, so it really doesn't matter whether the number is placed before or after the month name. I figured I'd save you a little bit of typing. Just link them the way they already stand, because no matter what you do, half the world will be viewing it one way and vice versa. I recently went through much of the Sailormoon pictures that I saw and tried to source them, but you said they weren't a good enough source? Screenshots etc. and sources

Hi, just thought I'd chime in. For screenshots, cover arts and other images of copyrighted 2 dimentional "things" it's generaly accepted that simply naming the movie, game, tv series, book, album or whatever (preferably also linking to the item's Wikipedia article (wich should be eable to tell us who published it)) is a perfectly good source as it goes straight to the -- well source. Knowing exactly who took a screenshot is of secondary interest at best, the copyright lie with the publisers/develpers of the game/movie/whatever, not the person making a copy of a small fraction of it. So all we rely only need to know is what work the image was copied from (naming the publisher or whatever is always nice too, but that can usualy be found in the corresponding article). More detailed authorship information is however important for photos, "independent" works of art and other things that are not simply copies of (parts of) other works. --Sherool (talk) 10:21, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Yeah I realise it's something of a gray area. However for screenshots and the like we generaly do consider just naming the work in question to be identifying the original source (at last if you link to an article with more info about the show, movie or game. If it's some obscure thing that we have no info on more info would be required, but a better question in such cases would probably be what the image is doing here in the first place as such images are generaly supposed to only be used in articles about the work in question). For a downstream user it's more important to know that an image is for example taken from a Pokemon episode, than knowing that this particular copy was made by some random fansite or other or some Wikipedia user after all. The taker of the screenshot is not the original source, the makers of the show itself is the original source, and if a downstream user wants to apply for permission to use the image they have to ask the people who own the rights to the show or movie, not the person who made a screenshot. Also consider looking at the article(s) such images are used in if they do lack any kind of info, 9 times out of 10 you can quickly find the name of the show and such, so just add the required info yourself (feel free to pester the uploader about adding such info in the future, but if the info is readily available it's not rely helpfull to add a "deletion" (that's how people usualy percieve it) template to the image, just fix it and more on), save the "no source" tagging for images that are truly of unknown origin (there are plenty of them unfortunately). Now wether or not 20 such screenshot images should all be used in the same article is another question entierly and the answer is usualy no (we are supposed to be using as little copyrighted material as possible), but that is not rely related to how good source info they have. --Sherool (talk) 20:01, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Yeah people who are tagging screenshots as "free use" or "GFDL self" or whatever are mistaken, at least unless they can prove that they own the copyright to whatever the screenshot was taken from. A screenshot is just a copy, there is no creative effort involved so you get no copyright to the image. Even if you do edit it in a creative way it is still legaly considered a copy unless you have express permission to use the copyrighted material in that way (see derivative work). Photographs of "real 3D objects" are however a different matter. When you take a photo of a statue or game console or whatever you are making a new creative work, not merely making a direct copy. There might be some gray areas, like a close up photo of a book, one might argue that the photo is just a copy of the cover art...

There might be various other local laws out there that put restrictions on a photo beyond the copyright issues, but we generaly only concern ourselves with the copyright bit (and US and Florida laws since that's where the servers are). So while for example a photo of a glass pyramid outside the Louvre can not be published in France without permission from the architect that designed it due to French "design laws" there is aparently no problem with hosting such a picture on the Egnlish Wikipedia (or commons) labeled as "free use", GFDL or whaetver else. That's what I've been told anyway, not going to claim I have any kind of ultimate knowledge of all these things, but anyway confusing international complexities aside the general rule of thumb is this: Reproductions of 2D works of art (this include 3D games displayed on a screen obviously) = copyrighted by the original artist. Photographs of a real world 3D objects = copyright lies with the photographer. That's my understanding anyway. --Sherool (talk) 06:47, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Marketing the Wii name

Hi, Roberto. Thanks for moving this to user talk; I was thinking of doing the same. Picking up where we left off, I think you've underestimated how commonly recognized "wee" is in the USA and UK. As a term for "urine" or sometimes "urinate", it's informal, but it's not accurate to describe the term as slang, at least in the US. Basically, it's a child's euphemism that a parent might teach their child to say instead of urine when they are very young. The usage is quite old, coming from a Welch word for "water". So while the word is not something you'd commonly use among co-workers, it definitely has a very well understood meaning. You'd have a hard time finding an American of any age who's unfamiliar with the usage.

Furthermore, the "Wii" name strikes me as a lousy name to have to market in English speaking countries even without the urine connotation, regardless of who your target market is. Other than the fact that the letters make a decent looking logo, I'm hard pressed to think of anything good about the name. Nintendo claims they want to market this to the less technologically saavy, non-gaming market, but the double-i spelling, which is neither common to English nor remotely suggestive of how the word is pronounced, is very likely to alienate a significant portion of this market; if you can't even understand the name of the product, are you really supposed to believe this is the world's first system that's made with you, the non-gamer, in mind? I know Nintendo thinks the name "Wii" is in some way a clever representation of two I's coming together to form a "we". But should a product name really require that much explanation? And would anyone ever come up with that explanation on their own? From a marketing point of view, it's not enough to say "our system's name probably won't make people think of piss" -- a brand name should actually do something to enhance the target market's perception of the product. The non-gamer may be less sensitive to what's hip than the traditional gaming market, but that's no excuse for Nintendo to pretend the name of its product doesn't matter.

Lastly, on the subject of alienating the traditional gaming market: yes, I realize that the system has already been dismissed by a lot of hardcore types for the reasons you suggest. But there is some middle ground between elite gamers and people who've never picked up a controller before in their life. Gamecube may not have sold amazingly well last generation, but it didn't tank either. That said, Nintendo would be wise not to go too far into intentionally pissing off their base. We must keep in mind that non-gamers aren't early adaptors; Nintendo's launch is going to depend on existing gamers to a large degree. I think at this point everyone will accept it if Nintendo's launch is modest compared to Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, but if their launch is completely dismal, then even non-gamers are likely to notice.

Hello. I see you added back in FoxEarth's Rfa which was removed as badly formatted/unaccepted. While he did technically accept, it was still badly formatted, which is grounds for unlinking it from Rfa. There have been comments left to this effect on the user's talk page, and I think it would have been better to leave it up the editor whether or not they wished to fix the formatting and re-add it (as only the nominee is supposed to add it to the Rfa page). These images are now over 7 days old, I have added quite a few back to their articles, but I think at least some of them were deleted. There are a lot, and some of them were in multiple articles before orphanbot. I have been adding them back to the articles they are definitely fair use in, and leaving orphanbot's delinking text for other people if they want to add them back to the more questionable articles. - cohesion 07:13, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

While the goal of replacing images is laudable, forcing the deletion of existing images is less so. It would be better to simply upload the better images and use them, which will orphan the existing ones and guarantee their deletion. I agree it would be ideal if every screenshot included a source like "Captured by User:Blah with a XYZ video card", the more information the better. My personal take on it though is that there are so many clear cut no source at all completely untagged images why not work on those and make less people upset with the process? In other words, when you have tens of thousands of clear cut copyright violations, why waste time on the gray-area contentious ones that take longer to process? Croatian Songs

I thought I would drop you a quick line to let you know that Dzoni's demands that those "Croatian" songs be deleted was disingenuous at best. They are in fact Croatian songs, but they were posted (undoubtedly) by Serbs who wish to emphasize the negatives about Croats. In other words, Dzoni would otherwise want those songs to remain.

I was one of those who voted to keep El kondor pada, but you could see that my reasons were different than most. I thought there was merit in some sort of article about the Serbian response to the NATO bombing.

Dzoni has plagued me -- I would have liked to have tried some procedure to get him removed completely from editing Wikipedia, but I do not know how to do it (I'm new to this). If you can help me, I'd appreciate it. His comments to me on the Dobrica Cosic talk page are the best evidence I have that he should be given the boot. Profnjm 13:03, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Playstation 3 image

How is my image not appropriate, yet only a few lines down there is a "side-on" image of the PS3 that uses the exact same referencing as mine - i.e. image from E3 2006. Surely there is a double standard happening here. rcandelori may 22 2005

I understand your argument, but it doesn't make sense that we use hi-res images of the console elsewhere, yet we are unable to put an accurate and clear picture at the beginning of the article. In any event, the copyright restrictions are stated and I would argue that for the sake of consistency and appearance, the black PS3 image or any other official sony promotional image should be used. No lo creo. En los artículos de Picachu y Mickey Mouse hay imágenes el uso de las cuales entiendo que son casos paralelos. Una imagen de un libro puede servir para ilustrar fair use un artículo sobre un libro. En esa página se describe el personaje principal del libro luego entiendo que todavía se está hablando del libro y que por lo tanto queda cubierto. Por cierto, en las versiones en castellano publicadas en España raramente se traducen los nombres. Riverwind y Goldmoon siguen conservando sus nombres en inglés. Llull 21:52, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
