Upcoming ArbCom elections edit

Hi,

I'm rather unhappy about the sorry list of candidates at Wikipedia:Arbitration_Committee_Elections_December_2008/Candidate_statements. Would you consider running? ΔιγουρενΕμπρος! 22:36, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Could you please explain more fully... edit

I see you were the one who nominated Asif_Iqbal_(Rochester,_NY) for deletion.

The wikipedia deletion guidelines recommend that those with a concern they consider serious enough to initiate a nomination for deletion leave a good-faith heads-up on the talk page of the contributor who started the article. Could you please explain why you didn't offer me this courtesy? Geo Swan (talk) 05:42, 23 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I was very disturbed by the reply you left on my talk page. I checked. You had already been an administrator for three months when you nominated that article for deletion. I find your unfamiliarity with the deletion policies very disturbing, given that you were already an administrator.
Just so we are clear on this -- I am assuming you did not intend me to interpret your reply as an apology -- or even an acknowledgment you made a mistake.
When I participate in an {{rfa}} I ask the candidate whether they believe administrators should continue to be obliged to do their best to comply with the wikipedia's civility policies. I ask them to commit themselves to remembering they are human, thus capable of error. I ask them to commit themselves to openly acknowledge mistakes, when they are brought to their attention. Many people, in real life, find acknowledging error difficult. And they find it difficult to acknowledge error in their wikipedia contributions. Some people are so sensitive they regard questions about their statements or action as personal attacks -- without regard to how civilly they are posed. And I am very sorry to report that some wikipedia administrators regard civil questions as personal attacks.
I urge you, in future, to offer acknowledgment of error, when you realize you have committed a lapse. Wikipedia contributors need other contributors to openly acknowledge their lapses. When they don't we have no idea whether they understood they made an lapse, and so will continue to make similar lapses in future. Because administrators have authority regular contributors don't have, the obligation to openly acknowledge their lapses goes double for them. Geo Swan (talk) 13:52, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dear Renata3

Please advise why such a quick decision has been taken to remove the page? The individual's work is potentially of interest to persons investigating C19th theatre, actors and plays. I am new to Wikipedia and find the approach to the removal of pages interesting. What authority do you have in relation to research interests covering the topic and period to evaluate whether this merits inclusion or not?

In regards to "other sources/references", John Wilson has featured in numerous publications. For example : Retrogamer Issue 35: A seven page "Company Profile", Your Sinclair July 1986, Your Sinclair August 1987, Your Sinclair August 1988: D.I.Y. Adventure Guide, Your Sinclair June 1991: YS Beginners Guide To Adventuring and various other issues throughout the existence of the magazine.

Numerous other pieces in Popular Computing Weekly, ZX Monthly, Crash, Your Spectrum and assorted "fanzines" such as Syntax, Red Herring, Adventure Probe, Spellbinder, The Goblin Gazzette and From Beyond.

He(and Zenobi Software) were also nominated for, and awarded, numerous awards in such organisations as "The Adventurers Guild", "The Probe Convention" and "The From Beyond Awards". --ZenobiBalrog (talk) 13:53, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps it is also time Wikipedia takes some decisive steps with respect to the nobleman who is disrupting the project by using it as a personal playground and even slandering other people recent sock puppet request. --Miacek (talk) 13:18, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Here we go again. Some month ago, a hoax that had been discovered long time ago but unfortunately not deleted, was re-established by a 'Bloomfield' IP.
The only reason why such piggery could take place, was that an admin did not delete and protect the hoax title (as he/she should have done), but the title was maintained as a re-direct. And the result is that Wikipedia has had an article on an imaginary political party for one month already: Estonian National Movement ... Miacek (talk) 13:34, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Iuga edit

I'll try sometime, but right now I don't have much spare time to do it. --Alex:D (talk) 14:53, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Here is the exact translation of the original. I left out some unnecessary details, marking them with (...):

The presentation of the less known rulers of Romania begins with Iuga "the Crippled", who ruled over Moldova from November (before 28) 1399 until June (before 29) 1400 [1].

Regarding his origins, it is known that he was the son of Roman I Muşat (1391-1394) and his first wife, a princess of Lithuanian origin, whose name has not been preserved across the centuries, but who originated from Koriatovich family, rulers of Podolia. A proof that his mother was related to them is the fact that he was baptized Iuga (Iurga, Iurg, Iurie), a Ruthenized Lithuanian name (equivalent to that of George), after a stalwart member of the Podolian family: Yuriy [2].

Iuga the Crippled had two good brothers (after both parents): Michael and Stephen (who, under the name of Stephen I, ruled over Moldavia prior to him, between 1394-1399), and two stepbrothers (only after the father): Alexander (the future prince Alexander the Good, ruler of Moldavia between 1400-1432) and "župan" Bogdan [3].

The second spouse of his father (the mother of his stepbrothers) was named Anastasia, being the sister of the Podolian rulers, Yuriy and Theodor Koriatovich, descendants of the Lithuanian princely dynasty of Giedyminowicze (Koriatovich branch) [4]. By his stepmother, but also by his good mother, Iuga the Crippled was related to both Władysław II Jagiełło (Grand Duke of Lithuania, between 1377-1392, and King of Poland from 1386 until 1434), [5] and by Vytautas the Great (Grand Duke of Lithuania, between 1392-1430) [6].

The nickname "the Crippled" (most likely with the meaning of "the Paralityc"), can be found only in the chronicle of Putna Monastery, drafted in the first years of XVIth century [7]. The reason for which he remained in history with this nickname is not known precisely (probably he suffered from a desease which gave him a movement disturbance).

Following the old internal chronicles, it was believed that Iuga the Crippled occupied the throne for two years. Also, a series of allegations were issued about him in the Romanian historiography of the XIX century and even XXth, especially in hypothetical works that had him as a subject. Unfortunately, however, most of them have proved to be unfounded.

An example is his confusing, for a long time, by experts (who had stiff disputes on the subject, more than a century) with Yuriy "Iuga" Koriatovich [9], which, according to the old Lithuanian chronicles, seems to have been called by a noble group hostile to Peter I Muşat (1375-1391), to take over the rule of Moldova (but being ultimately murdered by poisoning exactly by those who asked for his help) [10]. In fact, it was pobably just an intervention (in the autumn of 1377) of the Lithuanians (whose formal suzerainty had been accepted by Peter I, in the early years of his reign, to counter the expansionist tendencies of Hungary) [11], lead by this Yuriy Koriatovich (back then, the ruler of Podolia), in favor of a pretender to the throne of Moldova, descendant from the Drăgoşeşti family.

The pretender was named in a Lithuanian document, dated November 10 1377, as "Giurgiu, voivode of Romanians". He had, because of "unexpected treason" of his people, to leave Moldova and put himself under the protection of duke Władysław Opolczyk, the governor of Halich Ruthenia, appointed by Louis I of Hungary (...) [13].

As a measure of retaliation, in December 1377 took place a Lithuanian expedition, which, according to a chronicle of the Teutonic Order by Johann von Posilge, came out a disaster. They were defeated by the Moldovans and they "brought back only a little of their horses" [14]. Certainly, we can't speak about an effective rule of Yuriy Koriatovich in Moldova, even less in-between 1374-1379, as some historians believed [15].

The context in which Iuga the Crippled mounted the throne is not fully cleared up, even today. This led to many diametrically opposed views and, in most cases, inaccurate [16]. In all likelihood, he became the "prince of Moldova" before the death of his brother Stephen I (from an act issued by Iuga before November 28, 1399, it is known that he no longer lived at that time) [17], who resigned most certainly due to his poor health.

However, according to the document mentioned above, Stephen I ruled for a while along with his brother, even if Iuga had all the power "de jure". Stephen I seconded his brother to the leadership of the state and the ruling of the country, as the document mentions, was guaranteed by the rest of the princely family members: "and to this [ruling] is my fidelity, of Iuga the voivode, the fidelity of my children and the fidelity of Stephen voivode and of his children, the fidelity of his brothers, the fidelity of Alexander [the Good], the fidelity of Bogdan..." [18] (practically by all children resulting from both matrimonial ties contracted by his father, except Michael, who had died in the battle between Lithuanians and Tartars, carried out on 13 August 1398, on the Vorsk river)[19].

Significantly, to understand the situation, is that the document mentions only Stephen and Iuga as voivodes, which means that Iuga the Crippled was crowned before the death of his stepbrother and that the latter didn't leave immediately the political scene.

Stephen I resorted to this political trick, most certainly, just to be able to impose Iuga on the throne (by skipping or forcing the election process held by the nobles), because on that time his sons Stephen and Bogdan (...) [20], were too young (Stephen I married in the summer of 1394) [21] and they were not able to succed him to the throne. The boyars (nobles) had a strong word to say in determining the succession to the throne. (...)

The reign of Iuga was too short to be noted for something in particular. It appears, however, he was a good manager and organizer, he built, among other things, the oldest part of Cetatea Albă fortress [24].

As for the external affairs, Iuga continued the policy of his predecesors, that is, an approach towards Poland and Lithuania, ruled at the time of his reign by Władysław II Jagiełło and Vytautas the Great.

His name appears in the chronicle of Ragusan Giacomo da Pietro Luccari, listed alongside the other voivodes of his countryafter Bogdan I of Moldova (1359-1365): "Laziko, Mussatin, Roman, Stefano ... poi Iuga, Alessandro, Ilia, che rese il Regno feudatario a Poloni, Romano Secondo e Pietro Ciubar". [25]

Contested, from the beginning of his rule, by his smaller stepbrother Alexander, who at the death of their father was a refugee, according to some sources, with Bogdan (the other stepbrother) to Curtea de Argeş [26] (putting it under the protection of Mircea I of Wallachia, ruler of Wallachia between 1386-1418), Iuga the Crippled will loose the power in the time interval between the last document of its reign (28 November 1399) and the first one of Alexander the Good (June 29 1400) [27], in all likelihood in the spring or the first days of the summer of 1400. 23 April 1399, thought by some historians as the beginning of the reign of Alexander the Good, can not be taken into account, because, on 28 November 1399, Iuga was still ruling, the proof being his last document, mentioned above.

Some of the researchers regarded as correct the information provided by the Anonymous chronicle of Moldova, which states that "in the year 6907 (1399 A.D.) April 23, Alexander become the voivode of Moldova and Iuga voivode was taken away by Mircea voivode"[28], and wronlgly assumed that Alexander the Good started his reign on 23 April 1399, (while Iuga have kept the control only over a part of Moldova, considering Alexander as an associate to his throne). [29]

More credible seems to be that, at the time, Alexander revolted against his father's decision to leave the throne to Iuga (of course, Stephen I was already dead at that time, because it is hard to believe that Alexander could have challenged the decision taken by his father as long as he would have been alive), and declared himself as the sole voivode of Moldavia, starting his fight against Iuga. He was not yet anointed and crowned according to tradition (as was his rival), a compulsory procedure in order to become a prince [30]. Of course, is very plausible that Alexander left Moldavia (after April 23 1399 and until the following spring), and went to Wallachia, the neighboring country, to convince prince Mircea to support him politically and militarily in order to obtain the throne of Moldova.

There is also a version that the event took place a year later, on 23 April 1400 [31], when, with the probable help of Mircea I of Wallachia (who wanted an ally in the princely seat of Suceava), Alexander returned to Moldova and defeated Iuga, gaining the power.

Besides, the documents of that time show that Mircea came into Moldova in front of his army, installing Alexander as prince and taking Iuga with him in Wallachia [32] as a hostage, where he will die sometime between 7 January 1403 (when Alexander the Good does not mention him among the "upright defunct rulers before Us") and the year 1407, when the diptych of Bistriţa monastery listed him as deceased [33].

About Iuga the Crippled is known that he was married and had descendants (since in his act of 28 November 1399, talks about "the fidelity of my children") [34], but the name of his wife and sons have remained unknown. Certainly, his funeral was in Wallachia, but the place of his tomb was not identified so far.

Prof. Tiberiu CIOBANU Timişoara

NOTES:

[1] For the establishment of this period, it was taken into account that his last act preserved until today, is dated November 28 1399, and the first preserved act of his successor, Alexander the Good, is signed by him on 29 June 1400, so Iuga the Crippled ruled, roughly, between those dates. (...) There are several variations on the time of his reign: after August 12 1399 - before February 11 1400 (Constantin and Dinu C. Giurescu, "A Short History of Romania", Bucharest, 1977, p. 400 ; Idem, "Istoria românilor din cele mai vechi timpuri până astăzi", Bucureşti, 1975, p. 907); before December 1399 - before 29 June 1400 ("History of Romanians", vol IV, Bucharest, 2001, p. 803) and before November 28 1399 - before 29 June 1400 (Constantin Rezachevici, "The Encyclopedia of the Romanian Rulers. Critical Chronology of the Rulers of Wallachia and Moldavia", vol I, XIVth-XVIth centuries, Bucharest, 2001, p. 466).

References removals, distortions and attacks edit

Dear Renata, you have shown interest in the Simon Grunau article. The version now makes it appear, as if Simon Grunau was from Tolkmiecko, Lidzbark Warminski and Frombork referenced by ONE book from 1958, despite all 136 books state differently. You, knowingly or not supported the one book entries from a whole group of people who do "edits" such as the User:156.17.122.152.

User:156,17.122.152 got so emboldened with his removal of references and is now spewing attacks.

editing on same Wikipedia articles like l56.17.

same as 77.13 and 156.17 this Wikipedia User:213.238.121.121 also removes references, so does [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/213.238.123.56, who put reference, which is different from his claim,

There are others from the same 77., 213 or 156 ranges messing up articles and putting in false info.

However this 156.17,122.152 person is the most crude attacker and he is not only removing reference and dates, thereby falsifying the Wikipedia article, but he uses offensive abusive language in connection with a 1762 book author - well- read for yourself and see.

Wikipedia’s mediocre quality is not improved by groups constantly inserting false information and by their vicious abusive attacks.

Please advise group, particularly User:156.17.122.152 to stop the unacceptable behavior and attacks. Thank you. An Observer (70.133.78.156 (talk) 22:25, 5 January 2009 (UTC)) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.133.78.156 (talk) 22:22, 5 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Do you want to explain your deletion of AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!? You marked it as Vandalism, which makes me believe you chose to delete it based on its name. So, the page was deleted because of lack of notability. I would argue AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! is as notable as similar esoteric languages that have already have pages -- Whitespace and Chef for instance. Shin Dong Hyuk (human rights proponent) -- deletion edit

Ok... You advised that I work on the article in my 'userspace' before preparing a full version for wikipedia. no problem. but, i would need to see the source code i used for the page, and the source code i used for the 'talk section'.

Half of the source I code I used on the article page was of my own creation, not from Dong Hyuk Shin's memoirs.

Additionally, the talk-page contained an important set of links that I was using for researching and referencing Dong Hyuk Shin, and also the issues surrounding the North Korean concenteration camp.

I'd appreciate the help. :)

i removed the category hindu temple as 1. the main category hindu temple was unnecessarily cluttered with so many individual temples 2. the temple in question is aldready listed in the category hindu temples in andhra pradesh which is a sub category under the main catgory hindu temples, so why the double entry?

Mindaugas edit

Oh, my fault, the phone rang and I answered it, leaving the edit to sit there. Well there is a lot of associated WP material sitting about, trying to incorporate it. Anything you want to do is fine with me. One concrete question, during the 2007 review someone questioned the use of the image "deed to Selonia" - is that OK? Novickas (talk) 15:23, 5 February 2009 (UTC) Also Deacon recommends punting this question to you [3]. No hurry. Novickas (talk) 20:40, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Novickas (talk) 01:33, 18 February 2009 (UTC) Yeah, much more educational than Saturday school was, ZZZZ, we only woke up about twice a year for the really juicy stuff. Anyway, current plan - considerably condense it, put preliminary version here for yr review, and then put it in a note - sound OK? Novickas (talk) 02:25, 18 February 2009 (UTC) You may change yr mind about Saturday school - I now wish I'd done that to my kids. What's one more torture? Proposed note: Mindaugas was an obscure figure to the western world until the 18th century. His name was variously rendered in historic texts as Mindowe, Mindouwe, Myndow, Myndowe, Myndawe, Mendouwe, Mondouwe, Mindaw, Mendog, Mendolphus, Mondog, Mendoch, and Mindovg, among others. In the early 1900s the Lithuanian linguist Kazimieras Būga proposed his current name, which has since been widely accepted. Novickas (talk) 03:11, 18 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Mol-Rib Pact edit

What's your opinion on matters discussed on talk? Deletions re Poland and other suggestions I made? Do you find them helpful? Do you think you could work this article to FA status? If so, I am willing to help (of course, if you will accept the offer). Renata (talk) 05:18, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I actually haven't looked at the deletions yet, though based on the reasons in the edit summary lines, I think we need to keep in the very summary version of events in the areas of Pact governance, Eastern Europe, during the Pact's operation.
In terms of the edits that stuck, your edits did a great job of cleaning up some sloppy language -- much of which admittedly (and embarrassingly) was my own (but a lot from others' too).
I'm grabbing some cites and clarifications for some of the cite and clarification tags you added, which also seemed pretty on the money. I completely agree that many of these were flat out unclear and/or badly needing of a cite (if true), and almost all of them had been there for a long time (before I started some cleanup on the article). There was quite a bit of this in the article a month back or so and I've been slowly going through it. I have a feeling that, on some Eastern Europe topics, much of the text contains translated versions from other language versions of Wikipedia articles on some topics (most without citations) which may be accurate in substance, but perhaps changes in meaning through the editors' translation.Mosedschurte (talk) 05:31, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Just looked at the deletions. I think summary versions of the actions inside the Pact area during the Pact's operation need to remain, albeit in a very summary form. This is basically what the article does now (e.g., just one line about Auschwitz, which was started a year into the Pact, summary discussions of deportations). There are main and see tags for some of the larger Wikipedia articles covering what occurred, but I don't think, for example, the establishment of Auschwitz, Katyn massacre, deportations, Germanization, sovietization, etc. that occurred during the Pact's operation can be go completely without mention.Mosedschurte (talk) 05:48, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Arian/Unitarian edit

Hi Renata. Actually, the Antitrinitarian denomination in Transylvania has been historically called Unitarian Church (not "Arian church"). Therefore, it is more clear that the word used to refer to Békés' beliefs is "Unitarian" rather than "Arian". Also, it is not clear that Békés was literally an Arian (i.e. that he believed that the Son had been created before the beginning of Time by God but that he was not God Himself), although he was probably called (perhaps derisively?) an Arian by common people simply because he did not believe in the Trinity. --jofframes (talk) 17:08, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Travis Walton (basketball) Deleted edit

I was just wondering why you deleted the Travis Walton (basketball) page. I see you've marked it for no meaningful, substantive content and I am confused as to how an article about a basketball player who has been place on nationally recognized all defensive teams and has won multiple awards for a perennial top 15 team got deleted especially considering there are articles about his teammates that pretty much just state they play for MSU (see pages on Idong Ibok, Marquise Gray and Durell Summers). The page I submitted contained information dating back to his sophomore year in high school and continued into this his senior season at MSU. What do I have to add to this page to qualify under your standards? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.11.74.63 (talk) 00:53, 18 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Entire content of Travis Walton (basketball) was: Junior, point gourd. MSU basketball player. Nothing more. In no way that's meaningful or substantive content. Renata (talk) 01:06, 18 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

First of all, he's a senior and it listed multiple awards he has won (first team All-State Honoree, Greater Buckeye League Player of the Year, Big Ten All-Defensive Team, collegeinsider.com Defensive All-America Team, John E. Benington Best Defensive Player Award, Stephen G. Scofes Inspirational Player Award and Antonio Smith Glue and Guts Award), it listed him as a three time team co-captain, and it notes that he is 9th on MSU's career assist list. Once again I'll ask what more needs to be included to meet your standards? You still haven't given me one piece of constructive criticism —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.11.74.63 (talk) 01:22, 18 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't think you understand. The article that I deleted had 6 words in it (that I copied above in italics). There was absolutely nothing else. It mentioned nothing about his awards, team, achievements, etc. You are either talking about a different article or you did not save the full version. BTW, these are not "my" standards, but Wikipedia's. Renata (talk) 01:52, 18 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

The article that I thought I submitted read something like this: Travis Walton (born August 24, 1987) is a collegiate basketball player for the Michigan State Spartans. Walton is know for his tenacious play on the defensive end, often matching up against the oppositions best player. He is currently ninth all-time at MSU in career assists with 428. If Michigan State fails to reach the Final Four this year he will be the first player to have stayed for his entire collegiate career without playing in a Final Four under Tom Izzo.

High school career

He attended High School at Lima Senior where he averaged 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists as a Senior. He was the 2005 Northwest Ohio Player of the Year, and a first team All-State Honoree. As a Junior he averaged 20.8 points, a team-best 2.7 assists and 6.2 rebounds while leading his team to an 18-5 record and a Greater Buckeye League championship. He was also named the Greater Buckeye League Player of the Year. His Sophomore season Walton averaged 16.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

College career

Walton saw playing time in all 34 of Michigan State's games his Freshman year averaging 18.7 minutes per game off the bench. Despite being used mainly in a reserve roll Walton finished second on the team in steals. During his Sophomore season Walton was named a team co-captain and was the only Spartan to start all 35 games. He was named to the Big Ten All-Defensive Team and the collegeinsider.com Defensive All-America Team. He was also the recipient of MSU's John E. Benington Best Defensive Player Award, Stephen G. Scofes Inspirational Player Award and Antonio Smith Glue and Guts Award as voted on by his teammates. He also led MSU with 191 assists (5.5 apg), ranked second in the Big Ten in assists per game, and third in the conference with a 2.22 assist-to-turnover ratio. In his Junior campaign Walton was again named a co-captain while appearing in 36 games. He was named to the All-Big Ten Defensive Team as an honoree while ranking second in the Big Ten in assists (4.33 apg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.40). In conference games he ranked second in the league in assists (4.17 apg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.21). He was again the recipient of MSU's John E. Benington Best Defensive Player Award, the Antonio Smith Glue and Guts Award, and the Stephen G. Scofes Inspirational Player Award. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.11.74.63 (talk) 03:01, 18 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

What say we work on getting Lithuanian press ban to GA, and ask for that to be listed on April 24th? Novickas (talk) 13:50, 27 February 2009 (UTC) I was thinking of that sidebar "On this day..." - having clicked on some of today's they don't seem to be FAs. Re sources - it's pretty well sourced already, can cough up a few more. Novickas (talk) 14:14, 27 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's not so much that I'm sick of Mindaugas - it's more that FA is, shall we say, very demanding. You have to be on it constantly for at least a week - I'll probably never be able to commit to that. No amount of previous peer reviews is a guarantee there. The odds are good that during any given week things will come up that are more important to me, and then foom- comes a terse notice that it's been taken off. I don't mind telling my boss that my father's in the hospital again, but the whole world? No. Not that it isn't close to FA. There are gaps in the historiography - that one interwar source is good - but Soviet era? So I guess I'm not ruling it out...if you feel that you have the FA cojones and can commit to a solid week...and it's probably good to line up a couple other people... but in the meantime maybe I'll ask the M. reviewer to take a look at LT P.B. Forest brothers edit

I see your point. It may be confusing. However, it's only the lack of data in the article. The Estonian insurgents in 1940-1941 called themselves and were widely known as Forest Brothers. The post-war Forest Brothers were fighting for the same cause against the same enemy as the pre-war forest brothers and largely consisted in the people who had been fighting under the name already in 1941. So in the Estonian case, Forest Brothers is the only correct term for the 1941 insurgents. --Erikupoeg (talk) 21:33, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please respond about deleting article 'LLBLGen Pro' edit

Hi,

You deleted: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LLBLGen_Pro

as the developer of 'LLBLGen Pro' I'd like to know why you deleted that article (which we as a company didn't create btw). The reason I ask this is that wikipedia articles about competing commercial O/R mappers for .NET are still left alone on Wikipedia, and if our article is deleted, it seems as if LLBLGen Pro is dead, which is absolutely not the case (on the contrary).

You could reply to my talkpage (Otis Inf (talk) 13:02, 17 April 2009 (UTC)) or preferred send a small email to frans AT sd DOT nl.Reply

We otherwise would replace the deleted article with a new piece of text which is both redundant (as the deleted article already contains proper text) and would undo your delete action, hence my question.

Thanks for your time.

Best regards,

Frans Bouma
Lead developer LLBLGen Pro

Re: Please respond about deleting article 'LLBLGen Pro' edit

Just because something exists is not enough to include an article about it on Wikipedia. That something needs to be written about in thrid-party independent sources (TV, magazines, newspapers, books, etc).

It's been mentioned in various books about .NET, ADO.NET (Pro ADO.NET 2.0), Linq (Linq in Action), C# etc. and various .NET magazines (VS.NET magazine, DOTNet Pro (german) in the last 7 years. Do I have to name every reference? We didn't check the article regularly as we didn't write it to begin with. We got notified by a customer that the article was deleted. While I can imagine sometimes articles have to be deleted, it's a bit of a bummer that competing products still have their products mentioned here, while our product's article got deleted. (btw, it's linked to by the article about LLBLGen here at wikipedia, which is an open source version of our earlier code generator). I then wonder: is this simply an action of a competitor? Why are the the articles of the competition still left alone? :)

If you can't / want to restore the article, we'll replace it with a new piece of text. As said, that's a bit of a redundant action because the article was already there.

Frans Bouma (Otis Inf (talk) 14:48, 17 April 2009 (UTC))Reply

Re: Please respond about deleting article 'LLBLGen Pro' edit

You don't have to name every reference, but the article as it was before had none. If you plan to re-create the article, please cite your references (see WP:CITE on how to do it) and please mind neutral point of view (ie don't sound like an advertising boasting your product as the best thing on earth since sliced bread -- include all sides: the good, the bad, and the ugly). Please see guidelines on [WP:COI|coflict of interest]] as creating articles about yourself, your firm, your product, etc. is gnerally discouraged as it rarely mananges to be balanced and neutral.

Yes, I understand, hence my request for the original (as we didn't write it). I did some digging after my last talk on your talk page and it seems all other competitors which are commercial are deleted already so the necessity to resurrect the original article isn't really there. I fully agree with what you said in the above quote about neutrality and in general I don't want commercial stuff here as well, it's just if our competitors are here and we aren't, it gives a message we don't want. As the rest isn't here as well anymore, us having an article here is therefore not really necessary anymore. Thanks for your time and the references.

Category:Homophobia in LGBT rights in Lithuania edit

Why did you revert the categorization? It fits Category:Homophobia's criteria, being a topic especially associated with homophobia, given Lithuania's reported reputation as having the lowest LGBT rights record in the European Union. Mainstream LGBT news sources like Pink News and 365gay have been steadily reporting on the situation of LGBT human rights and homophobia in Lithuanian politics and society for years now. Until it becomes a less notable subject, Lithuania is of great interest to studies of LGBT issues in the today's world, as are LGBT rights in other reported flashpoint regions like Iran, Jamaica, Nigeria and Uganda. Do you think the categorization is contextually misapplied? - Gilgamesh (talk) 09:13, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I corrected the estimated birthdate to 1362, especially since the source for it is provided in the article. We could perhaps settle on something like 1352/1362, which I think is most accurate, but anything earlier is simply incorrect. Moxica36 (talk) 16:09, 6 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: Zebras edit

The title comes from a phrase used in the episode. In the beginning, Stucker says some conspiracy theories for how the victim died, and Stablers and Benson says he is hearing zebras. They explain it means when you hear hoofbeats in Central Park, you shouldn't think zebras; this means most of the time, the most likely explanation is the correct one (i.e., it's probably horses in central park, not zebras). At the end, when Stuckey turns out to be the killer instead of the more likely suspect (Harrison), Stuckey describes himself as a "zebra" in a reference to that earlier phrase. This probably ought to be mentioned in the article somewhere, although I guess I need a source to cite it to... — Hunter Kahn (c) 03:40, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Lithuania edit

Despite the fact that LGBT sections are not standard on country pages, does that mean that they may not be included? Are we using a standard template for such pages or is there an element of discretion? It seems reasonable to me to cover the issue if we're going to cover other minority interests such as religion and sport.

Incidentally I would rather we discuss this on the article talk page rather than bringing it to individual talk pages - it is not a dispute amongst ourselves. I'm also frankly disappointed that as a wikipedia administrator you sought to delete the text without justifying or explaining first. We should aim for transparent decision-making at all times. Just to let you know - still reading around, in the state of confusion that sometimes precedes a breakthru and sometimes leads to paralysis. Hope you don't mind if I use the cite-book-with-url reference style at some points. I've gotten to be quite the fan of this procedure - possibly because of past disputes - and if I were the reviewer, I'd appreciate a quick-and-easy way of confirming some of the more sweeping statements that to my mind would be useful for the general reader. I.e. more views on the S. motivation for it all, SU remained wary after the pact, saw the Baltic states as a buffer zone [4], [5], there's more) Best, Novickas (talk) 22:44, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ack, teh rules. Hard! In at least one of the examples you mention (Smith, (the) Prime Minister in June 1940, announced that...) it isn't really necessary. FWIW there weren't any egregious examples of the lack of the's in the article, I'd say you have it down. But you know many copyeditors, given free rein, will do major rewording, that includes me. Took a copyediting seminar once and the instructor said we must learn grammatical rules, not just know them, but I never did do that. Anyway, glad you like the article (!) so far. Oh, not saying it's not ready or that you shouldn't nominate it - just that I wouldn't feel comfortable nomming it myself, since as much as I like it, there're always some questions and I'd feel bad if I nommed it and then took off. The vacation and its destination are up in the air, literally if we consider some stormchasing. Pics, good idea. Vėliau, Novickas (talk) 17:14, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Вы случаем русским не владеете? Тогда я бы смог всё предельно доходчиво объснить. Azgar (talk) 16:37, 9 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

No, no, no. I'm going to try to explain this idea to you. Do you good in mongols invation history? What did mongols (usualy they called tartars) do with cities? They burned it! And what about the ashes stratum? Archaeologist can see was this city ever burned or not. Using stratigraphycal method, we can even say when this city was burned! Bus the is no ashes stratum in the middle of the XIII century in such cities as Hrodna, Novohrodek, Volkovysk and others. It all means, that Black Rutenia has never been invated by mongols. If the were no mongols, it's also mean, that Erdvilas can't conqure this land. P.S. This theory was proved by some great archaeologist (for example by F.D. Gurevich). Say if you understood me (because of my germinal english). Azgar (talk). —Preceding undated comment added 17:25, 9 August 2009 (UTC).Reply
  • Yes, of course. It was just a small remark. To understand it completely (like a science theory), you need to read some special literature. Unfortunately, I don't know such literature in English or Lithuanian languages. You can try search on Google books or elsewhere. About Erdvilas. When you read this article, it may seems to you, that this "theory" is supported even by some of the authorities. Could you rewrite related articles in not so marginal way? Lithuanian friends occasionally forget that Black Rutenia has never been conquered by Union of Mongolian. Best regards, Azgar (talk) 13:08, 10 August 2009 (UTC).Reply

First of all I want to thank you for the many artickles you made on Lituania, they are very informative, and as I try to fill out holes on Lituania in da:Wiki, it is very comftable to have your artickles as source for translation.
I made translation of your Municipalities and Counties in Lithuania, and just wonder if you have plans to look at Elderrates in Lithuania, I think it needs a brushup, so it gets as informative as the two you made?
At the same, I would like to ask you, about the historical/etnographic regions in Lithuania. I wonder if the informations f.ex. on the Trakai artickle are correct: there it says:Trakai is part of the Aukštaitija region, but according to this map [8] it is part of Suvalkia region, which is correct?

Re: Please respond about deleting article 'LLBLGen Pro' edit

(please read also the earlier exchange of comments earlier on this talk page). I saw in the [List of object-relational mapping software] under '.NET', that many commercial O/R mapper tools (thus competitors of ours) have commercial pages on wikipedia, and our article (which we didn't write, as I explained earlier) was the only one was was deleted. Either remove all commercial articles, or leave them all. As I asked you earlier, we really would like to have the original back up so we can adjust it so for example it doesn't violate any rules (however many commercal O/R mapper tool pages here on wikipedia do violate the same rules you used to take down the article about LLBLGen Pro).

It now looks like there are double standards.

re:Implicit vs explicit edit

The treaty says what is says, which is very little. It was interpreted as implicitly saying more by Lithuanian diplomacy. Polish side disagreed with such implicit interpretations. This is of course something that should be (and I think is) noted in the article. But our personal opinion which side was right is irrelevant. PS. And to a certain degree, both were, since implicit interpretation is rather subjective. Lithuanians had a different interpretation of the spirit of the treaty than Poles, who were sticking much closer to the letter of it. Lithuanians thought they were wrong later, because their implicit assumptions were violated; Poles were surprised as they had no such assumptions and hence saw no violation of the letter of the treaty. Both sides argued and it seems keep arguing they were right... and I don't think we can easily say that any of them was right or wrong. Like most of history, it is all gray, not white and black.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:12, 9 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actor Rebellion of 1733 edit

I have made substantial changes along with fixes of just about every point of concern in regards to Actor Rebellion of 1733. Is there anything left that I have missed? Ottava Rima (talk) 04:57, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Updated with fixes and three explanations on items that cannot be altered/further explained due to limited sources. Ottava Rima (talk) 04:34, 17 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I missed the incomplete sentence but it is now fixed - I left out Daily Post after the date. By the way, the sections you quoted from google happened to be those I could not find as "available". An odd feature for limited view (the change in who gets to see what). On the flu aspect - I am curious as to why the Battestins left "flu" out (they just say "an epidemic"). It is an odd thing to do, especially since there were various plagues that hit London along with other problems as a possibility without their specifying (TB, Scarlett fever, poxes, etc). Regardless, thanks for finding specifics. Ottava Rima (talk) 13:46, 17 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your kind words. I actually listed the Actor Rebellion at GAN so I could work on it in order to organize my thoughts for The Actor's Farce, which has some close connections to the rebellion (and sources tend to talk about both together). Two birds and one stone, I guess. Ottava Rima (talk) 17:46, 17 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
