Re:Split

I'm pretty sure it's the same as Wikia. The "rules" for this are consensus, and since most people that have written on the talk page have agreed, I'd suggest just doing it. If you have any more problems just let me know. Acebulf (talk) 20:40, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I saw your question at WP:Administrators' noticeboard#Request to split Diabetes in cats and dogs page. I glanced over Diabetes in dogs, and it looks like you did the split fine. There are some tags that I will add. Feel free to ask me any questions. Flatscan (talk) 05:35, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
I compared the articles, and it looks like you rewrote a lot of it, but kept some sentences. If that reading is correct, I'll put on the appropriate {{Copied}} tags to give attribution to the previous editors. Flatscan (talk) 05:21, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

What's Policy Re: files hosted at Wikia but nowhere else?

The following are pdf files which happen to be hosted at Wikia:

Selecting an Insulin for Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus in Dogs & Cats-OSU Endocrinology Symposium 2006-Nelson-Page 41

Providing Care for Veterinary Diabetic Patients-Canine Diabetes-International Journal of Pharmceutical Compounding

The OSU pdf is not available anywhere else on the internet and a check I just did shows the IJPC one isn't either.

What then is policy for links of this nature?

We hope (talk) 22:27, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

The sources appear to be fairly reliable, published by the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and the International Journal of Pharmceutical Compounding, respectively, and could be used as references. For our policies concerning references, see WP:CITE and WP:RS. For our policy concerning external links, see WP:ELNO. Intelligentsium 22:44, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
If they were removed, you probably should not readd them. Consider discussing it with the removing user on their talk page. However, it seems the remover has reinstated them. Cheers, Intelligentsium 22:54, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Diabetes in dogs

Hi there,

Just had a look at the work you've been doing on Diabetes in dogs as part of the WikiProject Dogs regrading you requested. I've got to say that the article is coming along nicely, however in order to be graded above B class, you need to go through the Good Article nomination which is external to the project. Full details are avaliable here: Wikipedia:Good article nominations.

Some alterations that you might want to make prior to nominating (as I'm sure they'll be brought up then):

  • Don't put full stops at the end of bracketed sentences when the bracketed parts are in the middle of a sentence.
  • There's several images of dogs with cataracts at Wikimedia Commons if you want to illustrate the Symptoms section.
  • The Dr. Tony Buffington quote under diet needs to have a reference at the end of the quote.
  • All the references should use the Template:Cite web or Template:Cite book templates with as much information included as possible.
  • External links section should be at the end (I already moved it).

If you have any queries about the Good Article nomination procedure or dog articles in general, please feel free to ask me at my talk page. :) Good luck with the article! Miyagawa (talk) 11:32, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

WMVP/Edit Summaries

I removed some information per WP:NOT#DIR, updated the reference template to {{reflist}} (which makes the list smaller) and I broke it into two columns. I also removed a link that wasn't working. - NeutralHomerTalk • 16:59, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Pop Chronicles

I've noticed your good work on Perry Como and 1942–44 musicians' strike, so I wanted to point out a source you may find useful. The Pop Chronicles the 40's is available on cassette and has a lot on these topics. (I've been citing some things from this audiobook and will add more. Como is interviewed on side B of tapes 1 and 3.) It's out of print, but your library could probably get you a copy. DougHill (talk) 23:15, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words! There are times I think I'm writing too much; the other day the Perry Como page had to be split again, with the recording info now on the discography/filmography/television page (originally a split from the Como one). My local library could probably get a copy of The Chronicles through inter-library loan-will need to ask. Thanks!

You Tube Copyright Vios?

I removed some material and Twitter/ MySpace links from the following pages:

Ernie Kovacs, Silent Show, The Ernie Kovacs Show. This user insists on putting them back. Taglman

Here's the page histories links:

The Ernie Kovacs Show History

cur | prev) 19:55, 23 July 2010 Tb240904 (talk | contribs) m (3,010 bytes) (Reverted 1 edit by Taglman identified as vandalism to last revision by We hope. (TW)) (undo)

Ernie Kovacs History

(cur | prev) 20:44, 23 July 2010 Taglman (talk | contribs) (60,276 bytes) (→External Links: removed, unauthorized video links, copyright violation) (undo)

The links weren't considered copyright vios by this editor until the Twitter and other links were removed.

Editor's Edit Count

So what's the story--are they vios or is this more vandalism?

We hope (talk) 21:21, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure I understand the situation here. This and This both show the user reverting himself. He's doing the same thing you're doing. Is there something not obvious to me? Netalarmtalk 22:46, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

If so, it's not obvious to me either; when it was removed, the editor seemed to go on a "tear" to remove the video links, which weren't a problem until the Twitter, MySpace and blog information was removed. My intention was to remove these links, which I was able to cite re: not being desirable ones, and after that, the editor decided the video links were copyright vios.

We hope (talk) 23:07, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

As far as I can see you've not yet attempted to discuss this with the other editor, either by way of the article talk pages or on their user talk page. That should be the first step – politely ask them to explain their edits and be prepared to explain yours. See if the two of you can come to an agreement. If discussion proves fruitless you can then consider if it is appropriate to get a third opinion or use one of the other dispute resolution processes. AJCham 00:18, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
BTW, the videos which had been linked from Silent Show do appear to be copyright violations. If they appeared on NBC's official YouTube channel it would be a different story, but there is no indication the uploader is authorised to distribute the videos. AJCham 00:25, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Taglman (talk) 23:28, 25 July 2010 (UTC) The YouTube videos of The Silent Show are not authorized to be uploaded; those are part of the "Best Of Ernie Kovacs" on DVD. I'd also like to know what makes the ones uploaded to The Internet Archive (KOTC and Jack Benny) any different, unless they are public domain and I don't think they are. I apologize if it came across that I was taking down the video links simply because you removed the other links; that isn't the reason I removed them. The Ernie Kovacs Blog is a collaboration between erniekovacs.net and erniekovacs.info and is a legitimate site used to post news and articles about Ernie; it was created because it's easier to update than a static website. The twitter page and myspace pages are run by the folks who run erniekovacs.net and are used to update folks when there is a new post on the blog or something new comes on the horizon, eg, new video release, festival etc.

Taglman (talk) 18:51, 26 July 2010 (UTC)We Hope, I responded to your comment on my talk page. Thank you. I'm still not quite sure how to use this so a notification comes to the person. Sorry.

File:Perry como statue 1.jpg and File:Perry como statue 2.jpg

You uploaded File:Perry como statue 1.jpg and File:Perry como statue 2.jpg as PD-author, but they really are cc-by-nc-sa. Please do not upload material with incorrect licenses. Unless these images are yours, and you can substantiate that you are their owner, they will be deleted.--GrapedApe (talk) 16:44, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

    • No, and I can see why this would be very confusing, so let me try to unpack the multiple problems that we have here. The first is that those two images that were just deleted had incorrect sourcing information. That is, they were on flickr as "non-commercial" only, which is imcompatable with wikipedia's copyright policy. Second, there is the problem of using a photo of a statue. Read Commons:Derivative works. Basically, when you take a photo of a statue, you have two different copyrights at work: the copyright of the image and the copyright of the photo. Both need to be public domain or otherwise freely licensed. (TL;DR) So, here's what you need to do. Find a freely sourced photo of the statue and write a fair use rationale for it. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information on that. The fair use will be for the statue. Let me know if you have any questions.
      • Now, as for this image, it isn;t any good either, since Conk 9 (talk · contribs) stole that picture from elsewhere. I'm going to see how to notify the Russian wikipedia folks to let them know. Hold off on that, let me see what I can do with it. --GrapedApe (talk) 20:24, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
  • You sent me a message about a non-free image for Dick Biondi, but I have no idea how to get a non-free image for a living person to pass Wikipedia:Non-free content. I would ask that question at Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous).--GrapedApe (talk) 16:43, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Super Skin Lightener

Hello We hope. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Super Skin Lightener, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not unambiguously promotional. Thank you. GedUK  18:01, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

No problem! :-) We hope (talk) 18:06, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Non English language articles

Hi! Many thanks for your assistance with New Page Patrol. If you tag an article in a foreign language as you did with Herleo Muntu, please do not forget to follow the instructions on the tag and list the article as required. This will help avoid possible unnecessary deletion, and encourage one of our translators to work on it. If you are unsure of any of the recommendations for patrolling new pages, please don't hesitate to ask me on my talk page. Thanks - happy patrolling! --Kudpung (talk) 03:30, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Will do from now on-Thanks!!

Fair use rationale for File:Dick Biondi Day Proc.pdf

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Dick Biondi Day Proc.pdf. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:58, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Note that the above link leads to a template that is transcluded onto other pages; it does not exist solely on its own merit and thus does not need a {{reflist}} template. Thanks. — KV5Talk • 16:08, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Deaths in 2010

This article is somewhat different from others, in that by convention, it uses bare URLS and not refs. There's a notice to this effect on the Talk page. Cheers. Rodhullandemu 23:13, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Bruce DuMont

Hi We Hope... I noticed that you recently expanded and referenced the previously unsourced BLP on Bruce DuMont - good job! As you may be aware, the DYK project is now accepting nominations for newly-sourced BLPs that have been two-fold expanded. I noticed that your work on this article qualifies, so I have nominated the article here. Regards, EdChem (talk) 13:32, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks so much for this! Had just been working on some of the backlogged ones. Wasn't sure what would turn up for him when I started because so many large city newspapers have their older articles in pay-per-view archives. This sometimes makes it difficult when working on something or someone where a "local" perspective is needed. Just finished whamming away at Paul Kantner for unsourced BLPs. Was surprised there wasn't even one reference previously, though the article was a nice size. Thanks once again for the DYK nomination! We hope (talk) 21:16, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi WeHope. Another small issue at the DYK nom page, could you take a look? The Interior(Talk) 23:41, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Both those sources look good, though the Museum of Broadcast Communication entry looks more Reliable. Go ahead and make the changes and we can fix the hook, and get your article into one of the queues for the Main Page! The Interior(Talk) 00:12, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Olga Fonda

I wish you had looked a little further in the history of the article; you would have seen that there once was a perfectly valid reference called "ditzy." I have reverted to go way back. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 05:14, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer granted

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Dabomb87 (talk) 16:58, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

the edits were meant to add spaces between "km" abbr. and numbers and remove 2 spaces in excess a bit further, nothing else. I wanted to correct other mistakes, but couldn't do so for some reason. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.253.141.81 (talk) 20:10, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
