User talk:Reidgreg/Canadian Comedy Awards

This page is for centralized discussion of a series of article drafts and expansions for the Canadian Comedy Awards.

Discussion is welcome. If you are associated with the awards, please make editing suggestions rather than editing the articles and/or drafts directly.

Drafts edit

There are a series of draft articles and one article expansion in my userspace. I'm not claiming ownership of the latter, but it's easier if I do the editing so that page histories don't have to be merged for attribution.

The drafts are probably mainspace-ready, but I'd like to time their releases for promotional purposes (i.e.: DYK, see below). I don't mind if anyone wants to make changes to the drafts but any sweeping changes should probably be discussed first.

Some particular concerns:

  • 4th – heavily relies on primary sources, no date for ceremony
  • 5th – relies entirely on primary sources, no date for ceremony
  • 6th – the one non-primary source may be a bit bloggy
  • 15th – no host for ceremony
  • 16th – heavily relies on primary sources, no date or host for ceremony, no information on festival okay, but 50% too short for DYK
  • 17th – Long enough for DYK but could use more secondary sources for notability. One of the primary sources is no longer available online (the official FAQ page which updated before I archived it).
  • 18th – heavily relies on primary sources, no date

My main concern is getting more sourced information, and if possible secondary sources to replace primary ones. Those which lack reliable secondary sources may be contested as non-notable. I feel there'd be an argument to keep them as lists but it'd be ideal if each could demonstrate notability on its own.

Multiple nomination/win tables edit

I'd briefly mention that I found the "multiple nominations/wins" tables problematic because it was difficult to tell or verify who was in a troupe or theatrical cast in a particular year, and since I couldn't do those consistently I didn't feel it was fair to attempt them other than the most noms/wins where there was usually a clear leader.

Navigation template edit

I threw together this navigation template which gives an idea of the articles that could be written on the subject. Note that some of these links point to draft space so it shouldn't be used in the mainspace yet. (Template at Template:Canadian Comedy Awards.)

Category system edit

I haven't given this a lot of thought, but here is a rough sketch of the category system I was considering for CCA articles, templates, and winners. I lumped some of the winner categories together, either by field (e.g.: stand-up), where names of awards changed slightly year-to-year, or when multiple awards were consolidated into a single award category (e.g.: male and female performers into a single performer award).

  • Canadian Comedy Awards
    • Canadian Comedy Award templates
    • Canadian Comedy Hall of Fame inductees
    • Canadian Comedy Award winners (this would include winners of awards which were only given once or twice, which don't have categories below)
      • Canadian Comedy Award winners for Artist or Person of the Year
      • Canadian Comedy Award winners for stand-up (Best Stand-up, Best Male Stand-up, Best Female Stand-up, Best Stand-up Newcomer, Best Stand-up - Large Venue)

Compare: Category:Academy Award winners

If there's enough sourcing, a small article could be made corresponding to each of the award winner categories above, as listed in the navigation template. The yearly articles themselves might need some additional categories. There are, for example, Category:2016 film awards, Category:2016 theatre awards and Category:2016 television awards. Would the yearly articles get all three?

Note: WP:OCAWARD states that "recipients of an award should be grouped in a list rather than a category when receiving the award is not a defining characteristic." Consider also the number of categories the subject already has and whether an award category would create "category clutter".

Did You Know promotion edit

With such a large series of articles I thought it would be worthwhile to consider Wikipedia:Did You Know (DYK) promotion. DYK presents an interesting fact from a new article (or series of articles) on Wikipedia's Main page, which is viewed by over 1 million readers each day. A good DYK hook can draw a few thousand readers to an article, and the best ones can draw many times that number. I would like to release these articles to the mainspace in groups of multiple-article promotions and would appreciate any input on DYKs. However, it may be worthwhile to hold this until the approach of the next awards season.
