BCrat edit

Now that you are a bureaucrat, you may want to consider using this[1] script, it helps to sort through the mess at RfA and close noms. Happy BCrating (hmmm...that doesn't sound right...)!Voice-of-All 07:28, 13 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Changing username edit

I've rolled back your last rollback to WP:CHU; there was nothing inappropriate about a thank you note, and could well have been from the user, logged out. As you used administrator rollback to remove the edit, I've used it to reinstate it. Please be more careful about reverting legitimate contributions to project pages, and especially about using administrator rollback to do so. Essjay (TalkConnect) 06:29, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Responded in user's talk page. Quite unlikely that it was a legitimate contribution, although not exactly harmful too (it was just a test). Redux 07:03, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I disagree. It is very common for users to leave thank you notes after a username change, and after a few months, you'll see that. It is incredibly uncommon for anons to make a test on Changing Usernames, and even less likely that they would do so with a thank you message, properly indented, under a completed request. I've asked the user to confirm. Essjay (TalkConnect) 07:13, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Again, responded on user's talk page. Redux 07:45, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tracking Vandalism edit

Hi Redux,

Can we cross Wikipedia access logs and the network infrastructure information (squid, firewall, routers, etc) of the company where I work to identify those which may have taken any vandalistic actions against Wikipedia from our facilities?

I work on a large company and some time ago (April/2006) someone inside our network may be taken actions against Wikipedia Content, then at that time I have got a mesage from Lesfer warning about blocking "my" IP.

Now, I come to you as Lesfer suggested.

Thanks and waiting your answer, Agaro 17:24, 5 July 2006 (UTC) (sorry, session expired with my slow english)Reply

Template:BrazImpFam edit

Hey Redux, sorry to be aggravating. I've tried a trick with "div style" that seems to work, but only if the image goes on the right-hand side. (I learned that from Template:Regions and districts of Malawi.) By all means, we should go back to the .jpg if it's historically more accurate; however, I've been indoctrinated to believe that .png's are the wiki-preferred format. (Actually .svg's when they're available.) My apologies, I hadn't noticed that the alignment was thrown off -- my screen's pretty wide. I do agree that images aren't the stars of the template, but as long as we've got them, I think they should be visible! Best; and again, sorry to cause problems, QuartierLatin1968   16:22, 6 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

False Accusations of Vandalism edit

Hi Redux. Damburger referred to one of my changes on the Bill O'Reilly controversies page as vandalism, when it was merely a content dispute. Could you drop him a note on his discussion page informing him of the wikipedia rule to not refer to content disputes as vandalism? He seems to be unaware of it and I think it would help him to learn more quickly if it came from an administrator. Thanks. Stanley011.

Yes. And there were several more after that. Stanley011.

I agree with the last message you left on the discussion page of Bill O´Reilly controversies. The situation has basically been the following the last few days: when I attempt to note that Al Franken ´´claimed he performed a search´´, Sysrpl changes that line to ´´Franken performed a search.´´ However, the only verifiable fact (which is the cardinal rule of wikipedia: all things stated must be verifiable) is that Franken claimed he performed a search. I think Sysrpl does not understand the verifiability rule, so maybe you could inform him of it? Additionally, when I note that Franken is a comedian, Sysrpl removes that notation but leaves the notation of Franken as a political commentator to give the reader the false impression that Franken is only a political commentator, when, in fact he is more known as a comedian--here, I am referring to the first mention of Franken in the article, in which it should be made known to the reader who Franken is. He then accuses me of attempting to poison the well when I make this needed change. Would you kindly inform him of the civility rule on wikipedia as well? I thank you for your assistance. Stanley011.

Additionally, he misuses edit summaries egregiously--would you kindly inform him that edit summaries are just that, and should not be used to send personal messages? Just check the page history and you will see that he frequently abuses edit summaries. Thank you. Stanley011.

IP check edit

Hi there! Would you please check IPs from users Abreuzinho (talk · contribs) and GADA (talk · contribs)? GADA asked me to translate a large text and gave me an e-mail that reminded me of Abreuzinho. So I wonder if both users aren't actually only one person (as both are linked to Cruzeiro's article). Cheers —Lesfer (talk/@) 23:19, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Redux, I am afraid that this user is not in his senses--kindly read some of his latest edits to the dicscussion page of Bill O´Reilly controversies, in which he accuses me of MASOSCHISM and writes other incoherent sentences, showing that he does take wikipedia serisouly, or does not have the ability to. Is there a way you can permenantly, or indefinitely, block him from editing, for he clearly is in no position to be editing encyclopedia articles as you can see from his recent contributions to the discussion. Thank you. Stanley011.

I am specficially referring to his Revision as of 19:01, 11 July 2006 on the Discussion page of the Bill O´Reilly controversies article. Thank you. Stanley011.

Please read the comments Sysrpl posted on the talk page of Damburger under the section ´´Stanley011´s war.´´ Is this allowable under wikipedia policy?Stanley011.

Never mind--I just read you comments on the discussion page and realize you have already addressed this. My mistake. I think from here, we´re going to need to have a majority vote on the matter at hand. Stanley011.

Bill O'Reilly Controversies Editing War edit

Redux, I am somewhat perplexed that you would allow one user's editing activity result in a suspension for all try to stop him. I suppose you already looked back at the edit history and comments detailing the conflict. I, as well as at least three others, believe this single user's remarks to be snarkey and sometimes plain false. He insists on presenting sources to the audience prefaced with negative information, the intention of which is to discredit or ridicule what that source is about to say. When pressed to stop this activity and discuss it further his arguments go in circles and he endlesly reverts leaving comments that are quite disingenuous. For example, he says he isn't attempting to imply a source is lying, but if a source works with a research group to prepare his case, what does saying the source "claims" to have researched the subject do other than imply he is lying? He says he didn't create statements for the audience which labeled sources as "conspiracy theorists" and linking to blog website, but an examination of the edit history clearly shows he did. I find this all quite disingenuous.

Finally, I wanted to remind you that this user initiated a campaign to have the article deleted, [4] the result of which was his initiative's massive defeat. Sysrpl 16:29, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and this user, freshly back from his suspension, is doing the exact same reverts again without regard to what was said. He didn't attempt to discuss this further than leaving "rv to last version by JChap due to pov insertions " in the edit history line. :( Sysrpl 16:54, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Mr. oversight edit

Have fun with your new duties :). Now we need to see about making you a checkuser, where there seems to be a need for more of them. NoSeptember 14:34, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

There are a lot more oversights than checkusers, and I can't imagine that someone trusted to do one would not be trusted to do the other. Checkuser is such a big job time wise, I think there is a danger of a backlog happening if any of our few active checkusers stop as Essjay has threatened to do recently. I hope ArbCom understands this, I have been considering requesting that they find more people to do checkuser, leaving it up to them to decide who they trust. NoSeptember 16:39, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Redux:

I was wondering if you have ever read WP:SNOW. If you have not, then you ought to. I think that the simple essay, will tell you to go close Phaedrial's RFA nomination. Phaedrial has received overwhelming support, and their is no reason to continue the RFA. She has 223 support votes as I type this, and the numbers show no signs of stopping. You should get down their and close that down, and give Phaedrial the powers. I mean, it makes, sense, it is not as though we should expect to see any sudden change in the votes, right? wp:rfa <-- Just go on over there and close Phaedrial's nomination. ;) Viva La Vie Boheme

I apologize for the "vandalism" earlier. However since that time I have put up proper images of both Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez on their respective pages. The Tevez picture appaers to have been removed though.

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Runcorn edit

Don't want to be pedantic, but just for the record, it should be 39/1/0, not 39/1/1. Andeh withdrew (as indicated) and actually wiped all his and Runcorn's comments out. I insisted on reverting that to maintain the integrity of the debate. I can give you diffs in needed. Thanks. Good result! Tyrenius 22:30, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Cheers.... The "0" looks so much nicer on the end! Tyrenius 22:46, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

May I thank you very much.--Runcorn 06:49, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

WP:CHU edit

Per the comments on Essjay's talk page, would you be interested in having a bot archive WP:CHU requests? Thanks.Voice-of-All 00:53, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Do you thnk this be a good idea?Voice-of-All 20:03, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Alright. Try to start using phrases like ":Done." and using {{done}} if you want perfect accuracy. Additionaly, I can check for Bureaucrat names/talk pages in the reply, and additionally, if the last user who made a comment was a bureacrat and check the date, which should pretty much work all the time, but template/icons are always the most definitive.Voice-of-All 04:10, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

WP:COPPA edit

Hi Redux!

Within the past week or so, a recent proposed policy has been created to help protect youngsters on Wikipedia. The policy would basically prohibit children 13 and under from giving out personal information on this site, and give users the authority to remove such material. However, most users would only be able to edit the page, but not remove potential material from the history, something, as you know, which requires Oversight.

The proposed policy is brand-new, and as such hasn't yet attracted a lot of attention. Probably most editors don't even know it exists as of yet. No one with Oversight powers has yet weighed in on the issue, so I figured I'd drop a friendly note on the talk page of someone with oversight, and, after looking over the list, I left a note on user:Essjay's talk page. As he is on Wikibreak, you're next on my list.

The talk page is located at Wikipedia_talk:Protecting_children's_privacy; as this proposed policy will, I imagine, directly impact the Oversight team, I figured input from someone on the team might be appropriate.

Happy editing! :) Firsfron of Ronchester 20:29, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Winhunter's RfA thanks edit

Hi Redux, thank you for promoting me in my RfA, which was closed as successful today with a finaly tally of (56/0/3). I will be very careful at first to avoid any mistakes. Please feel free to leave a message in my talk page if you have any comments/suggestions about me in the future. Once again, thank you! --WinHunter (talk) 09:26, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

MetsBot edit

Per Xaosflux's final approval [7], I've granted a bot flag to your bot, MetsBot. Cheers, Redux 08:01, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wondering if you could... edit

Use your oversight powers to delete my user page history? There is sensitive personal information on there that I would like removed. Everything up to the most recent edit? Magic Window 14:51, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Script edit

Since you are one of the most active bcrats, you may want to use this script[8]. It makes the paperwork aspects a lot less time consuming.Voice-of-All 01:50, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and it also lets you get edit/account age/block log stats for all participants by clicking the "data" tab on any RfA history page.Voice-of-All 18:57, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

candidate withdraw edit

I withdrew? This is news to me (Wikipedia:Requests for bureaucratship/Ram-Man). I initially thought I should when I was getting less than 50% of the vote (far less than required to pass), but I decided to stick it out anyway, and crossed out my comment to make it clear. Now unless you are counting my comment anyway, that still doesn't help *me* out, as I don't know what would have been the determined outcome! -- RM 11:41, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The closing out of the RfB by VOA was premature, just because the ending time has come is no reason for the rest of us to not leave it to a bureaucrat to close it, no matter how many hours past deadline it goes. This RfB wasn't all that close (last close RfB), but it should have been left to run its course. NoSeptember 11:52, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Yes, from the beginning I fully expected the RfB to fail, but I don't think my statements could have been understood to say that I *did* withdraw, but it did look like it was going to snowball after the first 5 or 6 votes, at which time I was going to withdraw if it got much worse. But it turned around and climbed to ~85%, which I was not expecting. I was at least curious if the closing bureaucrat had anything interesting to say about it. This was the closest RfB yet to fail (in modern times), as far as I know. Essjay was a success at like 89.5% and Andrevan was a failure at about ~82-83% (until late voting bumped it up a little to ~84%). So mine was over 85% before two late votes put it at ~84.4%, so it was in the middle of the two other results that I can remember. Of course I don't know if any sockpuppets voted (I don't think so, but I suppose it is possible) or any of the other factors that a bureaucrat takes into consideration. -- RM 12:12, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
There is no reason for you to fail next time if you continue to remain involved at WT:RFA. It was the inbalance that did you in this time (fantastic on bots, weak participation in RfA), but that can be solved easily going forward. NoSeptember 12:29, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Yes this was made abundantly clear. I have a clear path for where to go from here to remove the inbalance. -- RM 12:33, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the clarification posted here and on the RfA talk page. I had wondered what had happened, so it is good to know. Regarding correcting the edit summaries, I know you can't edit them directly, but I believe that you can post a null or minimal edit to each of the relevant pages, with an edit summary such as "correction of edit summary below: candidate Ram-Man did not withdraw; bureaucrat determined consensus not quite reached" or some such. RE: Marcos Pontes - Please Assume good faith edit

Your Post:Regarding the naming of this person as either an "astronaut" or a "cosmonaut", there is a discussion going in the article's talk page where the consensus forming indicates that the term "astronaut" should be preferred. Your changes in the article in that regard have now been reverted for a second time (the first had an edit summary urging you to visit the talk page). I recommend that you do not edit this specific aspect of that article again without first engaging the discussion on the talk page and gaining support to your view. Please notice that continuing to revert the changes while ignoring an ongoing discussion about which you've been made aware of is considered disruption, and reverting frequently may be defined as edit warring. Any of those could cause you to be blocked from editing temporarily (please see our Blocking Policy). Thank you, Redux 03:06, 9 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Reply: That was a mistake. I was just going through Category:Out-of-date Astronaut Infoboxes and carrying out updates based on the missions that they had flown. There were over 400, so I did not have time to view each case individually. Please remember to WP:AGF, if you had taken a look at my Contributions, you would have seen this was the case. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 09:52, 9 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
I did. That's why I contacted you in the first place. A "heads up" is not an accusation, but rather, and precisely, a token of good faith. Redux 19:46, 9 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks for the explanation. Sorry about the accusation, I was just slightly annoyed at the time. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 12:01, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Commas in tennis result pages edit

What is the basis for your statement in the Maria Bueno edit summary that commas are not used in the tennis result tables? See, for example, the Rod Laver, Andre Agassi, Margaret Court, John McEnroe, Fred Stolle, Boris Becker, and Billie Jean King pages. I think the real question is which pages (besides Bueno's) do NOT use them. Unless you can demonstrate an anti-comma consensus that I'm not seeing, despite looking around for it, I'm going to add the commas back to the Bueno page. License tagging for Image:Bueno & Fraser.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Bueno & Fraser.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:05, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

That was because I had only written in the rationale at the moment. I've now retagged it. Redux 21:11, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
