Nice work for your first edit. Do you happen to know if Southport was the only club he played for? - Dudesleeper · Talk 14:31, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Southport F.C., but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you.   Please do not add or change content, as you did to Southport F.C., without verifying it by citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:05, 2 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Content needs to be cited by reliable sources for verification, and that applies to you, me and anyone else. Do you have the link handy with the squad numbers? Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 17:40, 2 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Because someone could come along, add incorrect information and no one would be none the wiser. This is why we need to verify content. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:19, 3 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Of course, I fully undestand the purpose of referencing and citation conventions, but an author and an editor have to exercise good judgement and discretion as to when it is needed. This is not research data, or an academic or professional opinion. It is not a quotation. It is not contentious, personal or likely to cause offence. It is not mischievous or provocative. It is up to date (unlike what is on the site at present). It is a mere statement of trivial facts which are already in the public domain. You are taking it too far, and as a result the page is out of date.

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did to Southport F.C.. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:40, 8 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Are you referring to me adding the undeniable fact that Gary Brabin is the new manager? This is an absolute fact in the public domain and does not need a source to be cited, any more than I would need to source that the Prime Minister is David Cameron. When I create or add to an article I always cite my source - when it is necessary.
