Category Sorting

Hey Redd! Thanks for helping add to the new [[Category:Sirius Satellite Radio personalities]] that I created. Just one little hint, though: You need to add a pipe (one of these things: "|") after the category name and then put the person's name in there, last name first. That way the category pages get sorted correctly. For example, instead of adding:

[[Category:Sirius Satellite Radio personalities]]

you should add:

[[Category:Sirius Satellite Radio personalities|Norris, Fred]]

More detailed information about category sorting can be found at Wikipedia:Categorization#Category_sorting. It helps explain how you can use the pipe to make things just look more "correct" on a category page (say if you wanted to insure Bubba the Love Sponge shows up in the "B" listing instead of under "T" as "the Love Sponge, Bubba").

Sirius Audio

U.S. Copyright law allows for fair use. Obviously This audio clip falls under fair use because it is a non-commercial site. Of course you can say the same thing about any clips for Howard Stern's shows on K-Rock, WNBC, DC101, WCCC and WWWW etc... all of which Howard presented on New Years eve and he was able to broadcast those clips under fair use especially since he doesn't own any of them which I never understood why in his contract he never had a clause that said if he left the station any audio clips and bits become property of him or his production company. As I said out in Talk:Howard Stern the point is moot now because apparently either the site owner closed the page or Tripod shut it down due to a Violation of Terms, It was probably the latter so there really isn't anything else to discuss. Misterrick 02:37, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Sirius Canada

I'm not at all being biased. What on earth makes you think I am?

At any rate: this article is the source of "60,000 grey market subscriptions" estimates. Except it doesn't claim that there are 60,000 Sirius subs — it estimates that there are 60,000 subs total, inclusive of both Sirius and XM. If you can prove that there are 60,000 grey market Sirius subs alone, that's fine, but Wikipedia policy requires that you actually post the link to support the claim. Not at all. You're asserting that the 60,000 is true, when it's demonstrably a distortion of the actual figures. The statement you raise is not equivalent — it's not distorting facts to present a claim of truth, it's merely stating that some media commentators have said something. As such, the only support my statement requires is whether that's been said, not whether the media commentators who said it were right. Bearcat 19:37, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

For one thing, the Canadian government has nothing to do with whether Stern is available in Canada or not. A lot of people think the CRTC has banned Stern, but it never has. For two, I am in no way biased against Stern — I don't find his radio program all that interesting, but it doesn't offend me and I have no vested interest in making him look bad; I'm just not personally into that kind of thing. And I have no vested interest in making the Canadian government look good, either — the political party I support has never formed the government in this country, so I have no personal stake in the current state of Canadian law.

The only "bias" I have is toward ensuring that Wikipedia standards of neutrality and verifiability are maintained. Bearcat 19:47, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

Category cfr

Hi. You're not supposed to just remove a cfr tag (from Category:Talk show hosts) if you disagree with it. Go to the cfr entry and vote and state your case. If others agree, then I'll remove the cfr tag. For now, it looks like radio hosts already have their own category: Category:Radio personalities. Right now, the category hierarchy is set up as a television talk show host category, not a general talk show host category. I haven't checked them all but there appears to be far more TV talk show hosts than radio-only people. —Wknight94 (talk) 18:52, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

"Blanking" your talk page

In case you're not aware, "blanking" one's talk page is a common trick used by vandals to hide their histories (it doesn't work, either—the page history is visible for as long as Wikipedia exists). Please see this link for an explanation. Ø tVaughn05 ^talk_contribs 02:48, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Categorization

One of Wikipeida's categorization guidelines is that articles should usually not be in both a subcategory and its parent category. Category:Sirius Satellite Radio channels is a subcategory of both Category:Sirius Satellite Radio and Category:Digital only radio stations. I've noticed you've made a number of edits adding these parent categories to articles which were in the subcategory (including reverting a few of my own edits removing the redundant parent categories). Also, why did you remove Category:Internet radio from Radio Margaritaville? It started as, and still is, an Internet radio station in addition to being on Sirius. Image copyright problem with Image:Superfanroundtabl88.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Superfanroundtabl88.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. Darth Revan

Where is that image from? Darth Malak never wears that armour in the game. It seems like a modded version of the game. If it is, then it should be marked as such in the image caption. Sirius ads

I've removed the Howard Stern and NFL "ads" from Sirius Satellite Radio that, from all indications, you've created yourself using material from Sirius.com. Wikipedia is not a soapbox or a space for advertisements, and the ads seem to violate NPOV, both of which outweigh any of the original-image exceptions to WP:NOR.

A generic image of Stern, by itself, would be suitable since the two are so strongly connected with each other, so I've added the one from his article to the Sirius article for the time being. I cannot say the same for the NFL so I haven't replaced that image.
