John Lennon Songwriting Contest

edit

Hello - please see discussion at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:John_Lennon_songwriting_contest - your input is appreciated. (Specifically, how to go about making it not sound like an ad? In my view it doesn't sound like an ad but I respect your opinion.) Also, I'll see if I can find third party citations. After I do, please remove the appropriate tags. Thanks for your input. Gekritzl 00:33, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! Very cool. Funny sometimes how this works - we both decided to bolster the article up at the same time, found the same external references. Thanks for your contribution to the article, and thanks for your input. Do you think we should tag it with a "stub" flag? Gekritzl 01:01, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Will leave "stub" off. Well played - thank you. Gekritzl 01:30, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dorothy Koomson

edit

Hi, I noticed you nominated this for speedy deletion thirteen minutes after its creation and while the original writer was still working on it. Perhaps asking them to add some sources - or showing them how to - would have been more appropriate. I've edited the article and added some sources for the books and links for reviews [1]. Why after only 6 seconds of creating a page do you try and delete it?

Please explain why you are attempting to speedily delete Sports and Pop Culture Bank? The article posted is an explanation of the site's creation and its viability in the first few months of existence. It also gives a brief overview of its head writers specific duties.Anderspc 22:33, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

OK, so since you don't read those blogs and you don't consider the ranking to be good enough you think you can delete it? Must I remind you that this is a FREE encyclopedia. I can gladly take the links out. The purpose of me creating the article was not for web site traffic but so that people can learn about the site on one of the most visited sites. However, you can help by sending a message that says what needs to happen before it will be deleted before immediately attempting to delete the page.

And yes, 6 seconds is about right. I saved the article, noticed a spelling error, changed it and tried to hit save again when I saw the "delete" message. Anderspc 22:53, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, asshole. What good is giving me 10 minutes to change the article so that it is in compliance with the wikipedia rules? Thanks for the help. I have references now and you go and delete it? Even after I had put the hangon thing under the delete message. I really appreciate you telling me that it wasn't cut and dry only to have it deleted less than 5 minutes later. Proposed Article "Bank Charges"

edit

Bank Charges is a universal term for the application of charges to ones account! the article regarding bank charges has been made in order for every citizen concerned with bank charges to be able to look upon the free encyclopedia and educate themselves on the current and future (changing) situation of bank charges.

It would be a crime in itself to write the article and leave out some of the most influential organizations concerned with the claiming of bank charges.

It is contended then that the article should remain and the community entrusted to delivery a well written concise explanation of the bank charges and the effects of them on that same community.

It would be a crime to delete the entry.

The original article was intended only as a starting point and should I AGREE be changed to include those entities that have played such an important part in the process. --Bank Buster 14:26, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

As requested. Per the AfD discussion, you may find it useful to refer to notability and verification by sources before proceeding to improve the draft article, vital in meeting any original concerns that will come up when passing it through deletion review. - Mailer Diablo 19:11, 4 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • The sources look good, and in-line citations will help further - Deletion review process should be pretty much just a formality at this point. :) - Best regards, Mailer Diablo 16:03, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dear Realkyhick, Directly concerned about the subject, yesterday, while I was editing this article, I had an impression of being dogged step by step; when I wanted to save page, it became difficult; I had to try it again before I got it. Then I realised that I had been logged out while editing; as a result, my computer reference has appeared (which I really hate). And the phantom behind me, in addition to removing certain words and passages, made a mess of the footnotes I had added. If time permits, will you kindly advise me and mend the article ? Anticipated thanks.--172.187.223.197 06:09, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Miracle (Dinghy)

edit

Hi Realkyhick, I saw the reference to 'Miracle' in the list of sailing dinghies but no Wiki entry. I thought I'd try to help, and add the few pieces of information that I knew, and the few that I have researched. New user - so sorry, but not much idea how to do it. I've now got my first entry up, but boldly marked with {{Primarysources|date=June 2007}}! A little frustrating, but maybe I'm not used to Wiki .......

So what now - where do we find the primary references. It is a boat that was produced for only a short time in the mid 70's. Relatively obscure from a modern point of view, but still an important part of our maritime heritage and the legacy of the designer, Jack Holt. Almost no chance of getting any primary sources, they simply do not seem to exist. If we cannot find anything further easily, does the References warning box become a permanent part of this entry - pity if so. Can it be deleted for the sensible reasons given above? Your advice appreciated.

Secondly, Wiki does not always find this entry. If I get to the template: Template:Sailing dinghies and skiffs (e.g. from the Wayfarer (dinghy)page, it the link does not function - 'Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact title'. Any ideas why Wiki not finding this entry/link ? Advice ? Cloversmate Cloversmate 11:55, 10 June 2007 (UTC) 10 JuneReply

Music of New Orleans

edit

Yes, thank you very much for adding that to the article Music of New Orleans; I am sure this article will grow quite substantial in time. Hopefully it will keep the hounds of hell from quick reaction for a bit. I'd love for others such as you to add anything they can to this article, so long as it is referenced material. You know how that goes, I'm likely preaching to the choir on that note. Yeah this is likely to become a really tedious project, but I think it fills a gap. There are some articles that briefly touch on the music of New Orleans in an admirable fashion, though none that plan to go further in depth. I also started this article to prove that New Orleans jazz music encompasses so much more than dixieland, a common misperception in my view. I am not really out to prove my opinion on that matter, but moreso to demonstrate the reality which contradicts such sentiments. Thanks again, and any help at all at this point would be greatly appreciated. (Mind meal 19:14, 15 June 2007 (UTC))Reply

Well thank you. It is a rather inadequate introduction to all the musics of New Orleans at this point, but I haven't left jazz in New Orleans in my research as of yet. The surface has yet to be touched, even. (Mind meal 02:20, 16 June 2007 (UTC))Reply

I am an admin who was spends time now and then cleanng out the speddy candidates backlog. It is my understanding that the bar for assertion of nobility for A7 is much lower than the bar for notability for inclusion. If an article makes any claim of notability even a weak one, then the article is not eligible for speedy deletion. It of course can be nominated for deletion through the PROD process or AfD, as these methods result in many more eyeballs examining the article. As to this specific article, the Library of Congress Catalog has 60 entries with her as an author or co-author. I removing the speedy tag. Dsmdgold 21:48, 16 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Library of Congress. I'm not saying that this article doesn't have problems, and unless it is expanded by someone other Ms Weyn, should probably go, I just think that A7 should be used sparingly. (As it is I still end up deleting the majority of them.) Dsmdgold 22:01, 16 June 2007 (UTC) Reply

This was your response to the page about hug ball????

Spare us the "hypocritical" sermon. Wikipedia was not created as a repository of "knowledge" about a game that some guys made up in a back yard or street. "Physically proven?" Puh-leeze. There are no sources of any kind, with no way of verifying that what you have written isn't complete b.s.. For all we can tell, it's a hoax. Please don't insult our intelligence. This article should be deleted now. Realkyhick 06:22, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Are you functionally retarted? Hugball is a hoax? And I've insulted your intelligence???.....unbelievable. And I said the game can be physically proven....it's halfball against a fence instead of a wall using an empty juice box from the little hug juice company.....you don't believe me look them up...you don't believe in broomsticks, schoolyards and fences, then I don't know what to tell you. Yea it's a hoax, I set this up for weeks trying to figure out how to really make wikipedia look foolish....let's see there was the guy who reported Sinbad as dead, someone else had wrote an article about a guy who killed Kennedy or some other famous person....YEA!!! Hugball!!! that will really get them. Forgive me for insulting the intelligence of one the great minds of our time...You're the Barney Fife of wikipedia.....thanks for showing how much of a tool you are.

Encyclopedic?

edit

Recently, you restored information regarding Jimmy Barnes to the Nick Saban page stating that "it's legit." I agree, it is legit, but is it encyclopedic? In my opinion, it is more of a current event. Athletes transfer schools frequently for various reasons. It is especially not the least bit uncommon for athletes to transfer after a coaching change, either to follow a coach or to leave a coach they were not recruited by.

Like I said, it is legit and it is a current event, but it seems like fluff compared to the big picture.--Tbooz 17:29, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Article in progress

edit

I just now saw your contribution to Talk:Strategic reset, Realkyhick--I'm still figuring out how to read my watchlist. Thanks for your polite notice of possible issues. I have some other sources lined up which I'll turn to after I bang out the basic article, and I don't think notability will end up being a problem, certainly not self-promotion. If you pass by the article again I'd appreciate your thoughts. Cyrusc 13:46, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the suggestion--I'll get on it right away. I wanted to write this article fast because the report just came out and I think lots of folks will be curious about it, but this way of doing things resulted in a lot of summary. Now that it's almost laid out I can go back and fill in sources and POVs. The criticism section will be a huge help with this (and I think the criticism is about to start pouring in from all sides).

One question from a less experienced editor to a more experienced one, if you don't mind: are there etiquette issues regarding edits-per-page? I used to try to get all my editing done by toggling between the preview and the editing box, but as I go along I find it so much easier to save the page every time I do a line or a section. Is this going to get on people's nerves somehow? I don't know how to look up the answer to this!

Re:Lehto and Wright notability

edit

I would prefer, if you must, to propose deletion but not speedy deletion. I just posted this article minutes ago, and I think they are notable because of the multiple venues they've played and the five CDs they've produced. I'm sure other's who are familiar with the band may wish to add material to support their notability, and I will try to as well. However, the three-day period usually associated with "speedy deletion" may not be sufficient for, say, those interested in Celtic music, to discover that the article exists at all. Speedy delete is, IMO, more appropriate for someone/thing more obviously lacking in notability, say a musician with few or no gigs and/or recordings to their name. I would like this group's article given some time to be expanded. Why the hair-trigger? Rosencomet 20:58, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

or if it's simply a mater of needing more time to add stuff, let me know and I will replace the speedy tag with an {{underconstruction}} tag to give you the time you need. Realkyhick 21:04, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

  • Yeah, do that. Certainly preferable to tagging an article with a speedy delete minutes after it's creation, while the creator is still logged in and working on it. (IMO, I think it would be better manners to leave an article alone at least a few days before tagging it for speedy delete, unless there's some urgency, like a negative article about someone with no citations. From reading this discussion page, I think my suggestion might be supported by a few other people who's articles got the same treatment from you. Just a friendly suggestion.)
