Map of Tiruchirapalli edit

नमस्ते Ravichandar84. All I can do is import to Wikipedia maps from OpenStreetMaps. However, for this area, all they have for this city up to now is what you see here: [1]. I see Google maps have a lot more, but unfortunately we cannot use them in Wikipedia. OpenStreetMaps is open to all to edit, provided they have a log in account and learn how to use their editor. But to "draw" the map of the city, street by street, one would need several weeks of solid work. So it is possible to make a great map there, but I cannot do it. However, if you need any further information, I will be glad to help you. Hoverfish Talk 18:47, 30 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I created a basic map for you from OSM but its not very good, missing most of the streets.Tibetan Prayer 21:10, 30 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Let me make sure I understand what exactly you are asking for. First of all let me make sure we are talking about the right kind of map. 1) A locator map is a simple map on which one area of it is shaded in a way that we can see its location within a broader area. So in the example of the Chenai locator map we see the city shaded within the larger metropolitan area. 2) In the article of Chennai, there is a location map of Tamil Nadu, used in the Template:Infobox Indian jurisdiction on which Channai appears as a dot which is placed automatically by the stated geo-coordinates in the template. Do you want a certain location map placed in an infobox template so that a point can appear on it by entering geo-coordinates in the template, or do you want a location map itself (like the one Tibetan Prayer made) that can be used in a template.

If you want a locator map, traced from a Google map, like User:PlaneMad did for the Chennai here is my position: I have done it once for an area concerning my project and got involved in a deletion debate in Commons. Although the map was not deleted, I have decided not to get involved in tracing out maps from Google for Wikipedia. If it is an existing map that you wish to use as a location map in a template (the Infobox Indian jurisdiction one), it is very simple and I can do it right off. Let me know. Tamil cinema edit

Hi Ravi just have a look at Tamil cinema. An anonymous IP user was involved in vandalism for the past four days and now he has created an account and has nominated the article for a speedy deletion. I agree that the article isn't well written nor properly sourced, but myself along with few users have planned to work on references for challenged claims. He never listens to other editors and it clearly shows the user's hatred for the language/cinema, since he always says, "This was not included in Telugu cinema why in Tamil?" in his edit summary. I tried requesting page protection but dispute resolution was recommended. I request you to take care of the article. --Thalapathi (Ping Back) 05:00, 31 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

N. T. Rama Rao edit

Hi. Can you put this on your watchlist. I think the 33 political point thing is too tedious reading to be suitable. Maybe it could be broken down into proper prose I don't know, but the ip keeps reverting it. But its extremely difficult to read in the ip version plus it is against MOS to have a filmography in the centre of the article. I disagree with the point section, we do not need to know every single policy of his ever do we?♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:37, 1 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Trichy edit

come on man!! If you are going to undo everything then who will show interest in editing stuffs???? you say that there are sufficient images; but show me one quality image in this page ??? when a person views a page good images are the one that catches the eye; and most of the images in Trichy page are old and outdated. Most of the featured articles on wiki have good images .. I was planning to upload photographs of Anna Stadium,Integrated Collector office complex,AIR Trichy, and new Megamart but I'm not going to waste my precious time on Trichy anymore.. blockbuster (talk) 03:57, 3 June 2011 (UTC)tojoReply

As per featured article criteria, it is not necessary for images to be of "high-quality". As per the criteria, the article should "have images and other media where appropriate, with succinct captions, and acceptable copyright status". This being the case, most of the images you've added are not needed; especially, while there is already a picture of Rockfort in the montage why did you add another one in "Geography". Most of the images of idlies, etc., have been added long after the articles themselves have passed FAC. In my option, most of such articles won't pass feature article reassessment. Besides, it is not just me, another user, too, feels that you were adding excessive images to the article. When you click on the "Edit" button, you might very well find the message:

If you do not want your writing to be edited, used, and redistributed at will, then do not submit it here.

Your contributions are very much welcome :). But I'd rather suggest that you consult us before adding them to the article.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 04:39, 3 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I didn't say about picture clarity or resolution i mentioned standard of every image, moreover i removed those pic's of idly and BHEL when a user asked me. Anyway three sections don't have any image shall i upload pic's of Integrated Collector office complex,AIR Trichy, and new Megamart..

Collector office complex and Megamart images are not needed. A panoramic view of the Anna Stadium in Khajamalai on the model of the Chidambaram Stadium image in Chennai article will be of use. A high-resolution panoramic view of Tiruchirappalli city itself (just like other Indian cities have) will also be of use. Images of BHEL might be useful but it is better to add photos of buildings rather than arches or gates.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 05:28, 3 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hi! check out the images of St. Lords Church, Trichy Airport check-in counter and this one. I feel the existing images under "Demographics" and "Transport" (Air) sections can be replaced by any two of these three images, since the existing ones don't have the meta data. --Thalapathi (Ping Back) 08:44, 4 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well, as of now, there are no issues. The images added are all difficult to replace. Hence, assuming good faith, as of now, I am allowing most of the images to remain unless some copyvio is actually proved. And then, amongst the images you've provided, the Aerobridge is definitely not good enough for this article. The bus covers half the image. And besides, check-in-counters and aerobridges are present in ever airport. There is nothing unique in that. If you are able to click pictures of the same subject uploaded from the same angle then they might be of use to the article.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 13:44, 6 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Map usage edit

Hi, do you wish to make a template so it can be used with a pointer for indicating a place in it? Hoverfish Talk 14:48, 5 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

For this we have to make the template, so this map (but within a coordinate system) can be incorporated in the Infobox Indian Jurisdiction. I am making the template right now and will inform you about how to incorporate it as soon as i am ready. Hoverfish Talk 15:01, 5 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

So, here is the template: Template:Location map India Tiruchirapalli. How to use it: in the Template:Infobox Indian Jurisdiction that you will include in the desired article, simply fill in the parameter pushpin_map like this pushpin_map = India Tiruchirappalli. Then, whatever coordinates you fill in the template (latd=X1 |latm=X2 |lats=X3 |latNS=N |longd=Y1 |longm=Y2 |longs=Y3 |longEW=E), will appear as a pushpin on your map. If you have any problems let ma know. I will be back soon. Hoverfish Talk 15:31, 5 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

If it turns out to be that File:Tiruchirappalli city locator.png is too broad to fit comfortably in the Indian Jurisdiction template, and if we can trim it a bit to the right and to the left to make it fit better, let me know and I will do it, so I will also change the geo coordinates accordingly. The thing is that I do not know how much the useful metropolitan area streaches, so i will need information about it. Also if after some time OpenStreetMaps ameliorates this area and comes up with a better map, let me know so I can do the change correctly. Hoverfish Talk 16:39, 5 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I will take a look at the problem immediately and let you know. Hoverfish Talk 17:04, 5 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the confusion. The instructions are not as simple as I thought. I have corrected now the template and you should use the same way of inserting and filling it in it as here: Thillai Nagar. If the ccordinates of the pin show wrong, it is because you changed the map but I have not changed the coordinates in the template yet. I will do this next. Also with re-uploading such maps there are often complications. So I will soon see if everything works as expected. Hoverfish Talk 17:45, 5 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Try it now, press Ctrl+F5 to make sure you are not looking at a cached version, and tell me if the point is on the correct position. Hoverfish Talk 17:59, 5 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
I cannot do it right now as i have to go, but I will soon take care. The problem with exporting maps from OpenStreetMaps is that while exporting them, their coordinates have to be copied along, as text information in the uploaded map in Wikipedia. If not, one has to go back and try to guess them. And when trimming an already exported map the problem is again the same. I will make sure it is corrected soon. Hoverfish Talk 18:07, 5 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
I have asked for help from someone who knows more about such templates. I can't spot where the mistake is. The pushpin simply appears in the wrong spot. Hoverfish Talk 22:24, 5 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Now I see some light. I was just informed that the whole template Infobox Indian jurisdiction was designed wrong and there are problems and that it has been nominated for deletion here: Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion#Template:Infobox_Indian_jurisdiction TFD. You can comment there if you like. Meanwhile I will use a more generic template that will display the same. Hoverfish Talk 13:37, 6 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

DYK Help edit

Hi! I created this article, Deiva Magan' on 5 June and nominated it for DYK after three days. The claim is, it was the first South Indian film to be officially sent for Oscar (Best Foreign Language Film). It's a fact that can be observed easily, but I'm finding it tough to find a proper source for the claim, while a few sources say that it's the first Tamil film to be sent, I can find none of them mentioning "It's the first south Indian film to be sent". Just have a look at here [2]. Also have a look at this article. It mentions it but in an indirect manner. --Commander (Ping Me) 15:17, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re Vernacular scripts edit

Inclusion of vernacular scripts (other than mother tongue) in BLP is a sort of confusion for me. Since you said "Aishwarya Rai was brought up in Mumbai and most of her films were in the Hindi language. Hence, it might be necessary to give her name in the Devanagari script also." But, if I include her name in Devanagari script, I'm sure many will oppose it. For that matter, Rajinikanth would be a fine example. Do you remember, long back you included "Shivaji Rao Gaekwad" in Kannada and Marathi scripts, but some editors removed Kannada the script saying that it was neither a Kannada name nor his mother tongue, in spite of the fact that he was born and brought up at Bangalore. --Commander (Ping Me) 08:10, 15 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Even if you had semi-protected the articles, there is one person User:Hari7478 who appears to be diehard anti-Thengalai. As Logicwiki says, if there is some reliable longtime contributor with a vast knowledge of the subject then it would be good. But most of the stuff seems to have been added by anons and trolls. Wonder if it would be feasible to maintain order for long. I had got Iyer article semi-protected to prevent vandalism. And now, I find that "the anons" have created user accounts and are adding and removing stuff.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 11:34, 25 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Oh please, dont brand me as "anti-tengalai". But i guess, my contributions in the thenkalai section was well sourced. If there are any inconsistencies in my edits, please make the reverts and leave a note. By the way, there is a new user "s a narasimhan" in the [iyengar] article, who has been indulged in "mass deletion of sources", at the same time "contributing bogus info' without any source, and also includes discriminatory POV terms, such as one is inferior/superior to the other". How could this be allowed? So only, i had to make the reverts. You make check the "view history" page, for the reverts i made of late, in the iyengar page. You will not find any irregularity. I agree that about 1.5 years back, i too was making inappropriate edits. But over the time, i learnt gradually about wiki' editing, and i suppose i have not been making any inappropriate ones of late. Please do check the history of the iyengar article again. And I had once already i requested you(user:ravichandar) for help, "to make reverts and maintain the integrity of the iyengar article", about 4 months back. But i suppose you were not active on wikipedia, or probably you were on/off during that time.

By the way, the last diff' mentioned the Thenkalai page, has mention about thenkalai bringing non-brahmins into fold. Now i'm not trying to add more, but can i add some additional sources ti it?? Because there are highly reliable delhi university publications, and cambridge univ' publ'.

By the way, in the Vadakalai page, i agree with the three groups mentioned there. Although the info' is entirely right, it is actually Pancharatra, Munitraya(instead if Srivaishnava) and Hebbar. There is nothing like "Srivaishnava & non-Srivaishnava" vadakalais. I know this for sure because , i'm patrilinealy munitraya and matrilineally pancharatra. Although thurston had literally meant munitrayas as "srivaishnavas", it would be better if srivaishnava is substituted with munitraya. I'm sure any iyengar would agree with it because, all iyengars are srivaishnavas. There is no "Srivaishnava & non-srivaishnava" among vadakalais. The three vadakalai groups are "Pancharatra(earliest), Munitraya(15th century, whom thurston referred to as srivaishnava), and later hebbar. Please consider this as i'm 100% sure. I'm myself half pancharatra + half munitraya. Thank You. Hari7478 (talk) 04:38, 26 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

There are sources. But only Srivaishnava sources. Would that be okay here?? I guess it would be, as there is nothing controversial about it, or nothing challengeable/sensitive. It was already there , previousely, from a website which says trsiyengar.com. There are other sites like "andavan.org"(website of andavan ahsramam), munitrayam.org(web of poundarikapuram andavan ashramam), and many more. But this is 100% true as i'm myself 1/2 munitraya + 1/2 pancharatra. It is a little sad to know that a really obvious fact is interpreted another way. And it becomes too unreliable in wiki' if there is a "srivaishnava & non-srivaishnava" vadakalais. Please do consider these facts. Anyways, please do reply if i can provide such sources. Hello. Upon request, i've provided some good online book sources with regard to "Munitrayas", for contributing under "Vadakalai Groups". edit

Hello. I've found some sources regarding the group named munitraya within vadakalai. As i mentioned earlier the groups are "Pancharatra, Munitraya, and hebbar". Pancharatra - ahobila mutt ; munitraya - srirangam andavan ashramam, poundarikapuram andavan ashramam, other swayamacharya gurus ; while among hebbars most follow parakala mutt. Mentioning a group "Srivaishnava" within vadakalai is too inconsistent as there is no "Srivaishnava & non-Srivaishnava" within vadakalai. Thurston definetely meant munitrayas there. It is "Pancharatra, Munitraya, Hebbar" in the order of the "oldest tradition & maximum followers" first. I would like to make changes in the page, after a discussion here. Please analyze.

Here are the links:
1. [3] - Pg.61, History of Sri Vaishnavism in the tamil country:post ramanuja - by N.Jagadeesan.

2. [4] - Pg.100, The Cultural Heritage of India: Sri Ramakrishna centenary memorial, published by - Sri Ramakrishna centenary committee.

3. [5] - Pg.82, Srivaishnavism and social change - by K.seshadri, K.P.Bagchi & co publishers. This page also says that a large number of vadakalais belong to ahobila mutt(pancharatra).

4. [6] - Pg.244, Impact of Śrī Rāmānujāçārya on temple worship - by Sarojini Jagannathan, Nag publishers.

5. [7] - Pg.129, Studies in social history: modern India, O. P. Bhatnagar, India. University Grants Commission, University of Allahabad. Dept. of Modern Indian History. In this source, the word munitrayam is only partially visible, but the page certainly contains the info'. Search for this page in google book search, the contents will be visible.

I've hereby provided various links, sufficient enough(i hope), to mention about the three groups (pancharatra, munitraya, & hebbar), all about the existence of munitraya division. All these divisions are based on sampradaya, however ethnic origin is the same for all vadakalais. All these groups marry with the others freely(right from the formative days of vadakalai), and this has got no ethnic significance. As i mentioned already i'm "half munitraya(swayamacharya, while andavan ashramam, and other ashrams are also munitraya) + half pancharatra(ahobila mutt). When a woman of pancharatra gets married to a munitraya man, then the woman also gets to follow the munitraya sampradaya, thereafter. These are the facts. I'm insistig again that there is nothing like "Srivaishnava" subgroup within vadakalai. It is the munitrayas, whom thurston referred to as "srivaishnavas", i believe. All Iyengars(both Vad' & ten') are srivaishnavas. There is no "Srivaishnava & non-srivaishnava" within vadakalai. Such a contribution under "groups" will make the article extremely unreliable, as every iyengar(inc' tenkalai) knows what the facts are. Thank You. Hari7478 (talk) 06:56, 26 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please Read the above message first. There are two messages about two different pages here.
By the way, in the thenkalai page, i see some mentioning about tenkalai following of desika. This is too weird as desika is exclusively followed by vadakalais only, while thenkalai follow manavala mamuni and pillailokacharya. Both vadakalai and tenkalai will jointly approve of this fact. Desika is not for thenkalais. Although there might have been some admirers for desika within thenkalai movement, it is lokacharya and manavala mamuni who are for thenkalais. I guess thurston really got confused between vedantacharya & lokacharya. The obvious facts of today are itself misinterpreted. Hari7478 (talk) 11:03, 26 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

About the changes in the vadakalai page edit

The majority followers are from ahobila math(pancharatra) and not munitraya. Please read thesources that i've provided carefully. As i'm an iyengar. i would consider myself an expert in this regard. Munitrayas donot follow ahobila mutt or parakala mutt. Munitrayas follow andavan ashramam. Please dont misinterpret the sources. Ask for an expert opinion. I'm sure about these.

Munitraya(Andavan ashramam etc) pancharatra(ahobila mutt) Hebbar(parakala mutt)

Please read the sources clearly and read between the lines.Hari7478 (talk) 07:11, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

By the way, there is not a vadakalai who does not follow desika. All vadakalais follow him. Please guide me as to how to give sources in that regard, as there are ample sources. Vadakalai sampradaya itself is called as desika sampradaya. Please change it to all vadakalais. I'll provide sources. It is again too inconsistent. Thank You.Hari7478 (talk) 07:24, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

History of tamilakam by tv kuppuswamy says "Vadakalai owes allegiances to vedanta desika. It does not use the word "most" but says "vadakalai owes allegiances". All vadakalais are.(not only most, but all are). Vadakalai sampradaya itself is called as desika sampradaya. Allow me to change it to "Vadakalai follow vedanta desika". Here is a visible copy of the page itself check here:[8].

Also, both groups follow ramanujacharya. Dont you think it is important to mention him. Because, there are some people who think "desika for vadakalai, and ramanuja for thenkalai", and there are also others who think "ramanuja is for vadakalai, while manavala mamuni is for thenkalai". Let us mention it as "Vadakalai follow Ramanuja & Desika", while thenkalai follow "ramanuja , manavala mamuni & pillailokacharya". Otherwise people think that "one group, or the other, or both" are not following Ramanuja. Let us just mention ramanuja there. However i'll do it with sources.Hari7478 (talk) 10:10, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
