Speedy deletion nomination of Gurdeep Singh Bahia

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Gurdeep Singh Bahia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.   Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Gurdeep Singh Bahia, and I noticed that your username, "Rauxcreations", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Jack Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. First, you must apply at WP:Changing username for a new username, which will represent only you as an individual. Accounts whose names are the names of groups or organizations are not permitted. If you do not change username, this account will be blocked. Your username may be based on your real name, or not, as you choose (see WP:REALNAME for some considerations), but it should not be the name of any other living person. A username of the form "Robert at Raux Creations" would be acceptable, and would serve to declare your affiliation.

Next, if you are Gurdeep Singh Bahia or are employed by or associated with him, you should read Wikipedia:Autobiography and the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. Note that you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use ("Paid contributions without disclosure" under section 4) to disclose your interest in any edits where you have a COI.

Then, understand that Wikipedia is quite selective about subjects for articles. It is an encyclopedia, not a social-networking site like Facebook or LinkedIn which anyone can use to tell the world about themselves. The test for inclusion is called Wikipedia :Notability and is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Youtube, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? See also Wikipedia:Notability (summary).

Another thing you should understand is that if an article is accepted, you, or Mr Bahia, will not OWN it as you would on a social-networking site: others can and will edit it, and you will not be able to insist on your preferred version.

If you still want to proceed, what you should do is:

  • Read WP:Your first article.
  • Think hard about notability, because if you cannot show it, you will be wasting your time, and ours.
  • Collect references showing significant coverage in reliable independent sources.
  • Write in neutral, non-promotional style, with no "peacock terms", plain facts of what he has achieved, cited to reliable sources, basing the article on what others say about him, not what he says about himself. Keep in mind that this is not a social-networking site like Facebook for him to tell the world about himself.
  • Write in your own words, and do not copy text in from other sources: (a) that would give copyright problems, and (b) material written for other purposes will probably not have the right tone for an encyclopedia article.
  • Use WP:Articles for creation to guide you through the process, and choose the option to send the draft for review by an experienced user, who will either accept it or give you feedback. If you post it directly, and it is not suitable, it is likely to be deleted again.
