Hello, Ratesreal. I see that no one has welcomed you yet (except for the impersonal messages above). As you have already started editing you probably are familiar with many of the things you need to know, but WP:Welcome has some useful information.

It is good to see someone take an active interest in creating and improving articles on ships. There is a very active and informed group of editors creating and contributing to articles on naval vessels, but not very many writing about passenger ships and other merchant vessels. Your contributions are helping rectify that situation.

There are some common mistakes which you will come across in articles. These include:

• mistaking displacement for gross tonnage, and
• confusing the date of a ship's entry into service (or naming, or maiden voyage) with its launch. Very few merchant ships are launched anymore-- they are build in drydocks and floated out.

These errors were perpetuated by the use of a naval infobox template, which called for a launch date, and did not allow for a gross tonnage measurement. That has now been corrected. The folks at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ships have put together merchant ship infobox which contains the most commonly-used fields, and the full template allows for additional information to be added. See Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ships/Tables for more information. If you create articles, please use the new infobox template, and feel free to substitute the new template in existing articles. Taras Shevchenko

The riverboat MS Taras Shevchenko that you've written an article about is not the same ship as the Ivan Franko-class ocean liner Taras Shevchenko that was a sister ship to MS Marco Polo. It would be greatly appriciated if you would check your facts before making alterations like moving MS Taras Shevchenko into Taras Shevchenko (ocean liner).

Apologies if this sounded harsh, but I presumed the fact that I (a) corrected the claims that MS Ivan Franko and MS Shota Rustaveli were river cruise ships (quite possibly river cruise ships with those names exist - but they are not Ivan Franko-class ocean liners) and then purposefully ambiguated the the links from other Ivan Franko-class ships away from the article about the river cruiser. -- Kjet (talk) 01:04, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
