Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need any help! And don't be fooled by that American name, for I am very much Indian like you! Regards, Yes Michael?Talk 11:28, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I was just trying to put a talkback on your talk page! This thing is creepy! And I am not scared of Americans too! :) Ranjani Krishnakumar (talk) 11:30, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

No need to talkback me anymore, as I have watchlisted your talk page :) . I suppose you are from Manipal University :) Yes Michael?Talk 11:38, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes. I studied there. Ramdas Pai, the Chancellor of MU got Padma Bhushan lately. I was just going to put up his entry as well. Ranjani Krishnakumar (talk) 11:42, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Saw the entry on your userspace :) You seem to be learning extremely (and I mean extremely) fast for a new user of Wikipedia! Great to see you here. If you are in one of the bigger cities, you can attend one of the Wikimeetups. Hope to see you around, Regards, Yes Michael?Talk 11:45, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I live in Bangalore as well! (So much for privacy :P)Once I really have put up a few things and can speak the wikispeak, I will surely come around sometime! :) Thanks so much for being so nice to me! Ranjani Krishnakumar (talk) 11:47, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Trust me, you don't need to speak the Wikispeak to attend the meeting. Anyway, nice bumping into you! Thanks, Yes Michael?Talk 11:52, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Ramdas Pai.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 04:39, 7 April 2011 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 04:39, 7 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Padmabhushan Ramdas Pai.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Padmabhushan Ramdas Pai.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Note on Images

edit

Ranjani, a note on Images: If you did not know, Wikipedia does not allow copyrighted images to be uploaded. The images of Mr. Ramdas Pai, and the others that you uploaded, are from the Manipal University site. And those images are copyrighted, and belong to Manipal University. Unfortunately, they will be deleted.

What you can do

edit
  • If you have pictures that you yourself clicked, you can upload them under a proper license.
  • If someone else you know has pictures that they clicked (or otherwise hold copyright), you can ask them to release it under a suitable Creative Commons license/Public domain.
  • You can ask Manipal University to release the images into public domain/under Creative commons. (This would be difficult, and after you convince them, there are some more processes on Wikipedia).
  • Also, you can search Wikimedia Commons, or Flickr for an image already uploaded (note: All Flickr Images are not Public domain/CC-BY-SA).
  • See WP:FIT

Regards, Yes Michael?Talk 11:12, 7 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks much. Is it possible that Manipal University can authorise me to release it under a CC licence? Can I get an email from them and send it to wiki (as it says on the pictures page) and have the deletion removed? Also, I can not delete anything I have put up, right? Ranjani Krishnakumar (talk) 11:20, 7 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, I think not. I am unsure about the process. My apologies; Images and files are not my strongest strengths, and I'd rather give no advice than bad advice. You can post a question at WP:IMAGEHELP. If you do not receive a satisfactory answer, I can redirect you to another user.
No, you cannot delete any images you have put up; Instead, you can ask for deletion. See CSD G7. Yes Michael?Talk 14:09, 7 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hey, for articles in need of attention, please see WP:GBD. I think you can browse through subcategories there to find your topic. Yes Michael?Talk 05:40, 10 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Looks like you got the OTRS process right on the images! Great work. Yes Michael?Talk 05:42, 10 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much! I am damn kicked with the efficiency of the team! I love wiki! I am going to contribute more! :) RK (talk) 03:45, 11 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hehe :) . I am looking to join OTRS anytime soon; got rejected once, so looking to improve my contribs :P . Good Luck! But a word of caution. The English Wikipedia can be a nasty place. Very nasty. Though I think you should make it through fine. Also, please consider contributing to our Indic language Wikis, We have over 20 of them; Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Sanskrit, all included! Yes Michael?Talk 15:37, 11 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I've heard that wiki is a nasty place. I stayed out so long of that fear. And yes, I am more than willing to contribute to Indian language pages as well! :) Thank you.
