Great article!

edit

Great article back there! All it needed was some section headers. Speaking of which, here's how to make them. The first thing you need to know is that there are three levels of header, each determined by how many "=" marks you put on each side of the header. Putting =text= would make the largest header, resulting in

text

edit

That's the type you usually see at the top of pages. To make a level 2: ==text==

which results in

text

edit

Now, the last one, the Level 3 header. This is the header you put up when you want to create a subsection. The syntax for this is ===text===

making

text

edit

See? It's as easy as putting down some "=" signs. --Gp75motorsports REV LIMITER 12:24, 15 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

New pages

edit

Hello there, I see you've created four pages very quickly, with lots of content and some overlapping themes. There's a danger that these overlap so much, that one or more of them might need to be deleted or merged with the others. Can I suggest that, rather than adding lots of new pages - especially with no wikification, like this one, you work on one article to add links, catehories, images etc? There are some really helpful suggestions about drafting, improving and perfecting articles at the blue links shown. Making one article better like this will teach you much more about Wikipedia than simply pasting in text that you have prepared for other reasons. Good luck, Kim Dent-Brown (Talk) 13:25, 15 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Accountability mechanisms in local governments in Kerala

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Accountability mechanisms in local governments in Kerala, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Accountability mechanisms in local governments in Kerala. Spam in Kerala: A Fertile Land for Decentralisation

edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Kerala: A Fertile Land for Decentralisation, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Kerala: A Fertile Land for Decentralisation is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Kerala: A Fertile Land for Decentralisation, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Speedy deletion of Decentralisation and Local Governance in Kerala

edit

A tag has been placed on Decentralisation and Local Governance in Kerala requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello there, I'm sorry to nominate yet another of your articles but you need to have a look at Decentralization and perhaps include this material there. When an article on a topic exists already, it is not helpful to add a new article which lagrely overlaps. I see from your contributions that you are making lots of article edits, particularly new articles, and almost no talk page edits. Talk pages are where editors discuss what they are doing and why, and resolve differences about articles and edits. I strongly suggest that you stop creating new articles, which appear to be from your own research or studies. Try editing some existing articles instead. Response to email

edit

Hello there, you sent me this email earlier today:

1 I am not a researcher, a librarian, in Kerala Institute of Local Administration. So remember that none of my write-ups are results of original research. But secondary literature, that can fit into a text book or reference book.As a librarian, my job is to gather, maintain and provide information.
2 I am a fan of Wikipedia and I wanted to create a Wikipedia for Decentralisation in India which is being decided by Ministry of Panhcayati Raj. As a much navigated site I wanted to have some pages here in Wikipedia too.

3 Meanwhile as suggested by Frederick N, a journalist of Goa, I started creating pages, probably with ignorance of editing properly.

4 I donot sign because I donot know how to sign and what to write. That is all

5 I write this mail when I got a link which I may not be able to retrieve later

6 So my need is to have a corner - a portal -for decentralisation and local governance in India /Kerala. Please help me for it
7 I am known in India as a promoter of Decentralisation particularly in the Decentralisation Community of UN Solution Exchange - an email group of 1400 persons and was the best participant in the group last year.
7 If you propose the deletion of the article Types of decentralisation, I think it is worth retaining.

8 I learn that the article must be shorter than my articles whereas m y articles are long. But they contain only points gathered from official reports such as Economic Review of Kerala government, Kerala Panchayat Raj Act and similar publication.

I want to tell you again that I am a positive person and not a manipulator

Regards,

K Rajsekharan

I'm replying here as discussions like this are best kept public on Wikipedia: to respond, click the 'edit this page' tab at the top of this page, and place your edit under mine. If you start your paragraphs with a : symbol, they will be indented -

like this

which can make conversations easier to read.

To respond to your email: may I suggest that you start by looking through the links about drafting, improving and perfecting articles. Click on the blue link and each will take you to some very useful information. Then you could also look here at the help page for advice about how Wikipedia works, how to edit articles, source and provide references etc. As you are not familiar with Wikipedia, and I can see that English is not your first language, it might be best NOT to begin by creating large articles, but instead by making small additions to existing articles while you get the hang of how the editorial process works. There is also a tutorial here which may be helpful for the mechanics of how it all works here. Please do reply below if you need futrther help. An offer of help

edit

Hi there, thanks for your email this morning. I usually find it best to correspond via talk pages, so [please respond here by clicking the 'edit this page' tab at the top and placing your response under mine. That way everyone can see our conversation (and join in if necessary).

I have a suggestion and an offer to make: as you've discovered, writing an article is a lot more complicated than pasting in a large block of text! What I'd suggest is that we set up a test page in your own userspace, say at a page like User:Rajankila/drafts. You then paste in one of your articles and we work on it together to try and get it into a presentable format for the mainspace. Drafting it in your user space means it doesn't appear on the list of new pages or recent changes, so it won't get challenged for deletion - although other editors can see it if they know it's there.

I suggest trying just one article, ideally either the shortest, or the one with the fullest range of references (or just the one that interests you most). But it needs to be one with verifiable (and verified) facts, not opinions or theoretical material. Please reply below if you'd like to do this.

I have no doubt whatsoever that you're a sincere editor with a desire to edit constructively: vandals are very obvious by their editing behaviour and I can see you're not one. I realise it's disheartening to have your first contributions deleted, but I'd be very happy to help produce some articles which will stay - not least because I'm concerned about systemic bias against articles on subjects away from the English speaking world. I am not matured enough to create full-fledged article right now. So please check the editing I had made today in Decentralisation and Empowerment and respond so that I can understand my imperfections. The first article I had posted contained only factual things like "Sun rises in the east and sets in the west"" which do not require even any citation. But it could have been provided with any number of citations too. No matter I am in the midst of the subject decentralisation and can post articles systematically later when I am more learned and technologically abled. Meantime, please watch my minor editing and advice me in case of errors. Only today I learned to use talk page and to sign. But why my sign doesn't appears as yours ? Rajankila (talk) 12:52, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, well done for figuring out the signature and also how to make wikilinks with the two square brackets. My signature look different to yours because I've customised it by clicking on the 'my preferences' link at the top of the page, then putting in an alternate signature. But until you're more experienced in Wiki markup, I suggest you don't try that right now, it can be a bit complicated! There is more information on signatures here.
As to your edits, a few immediate bits of feedback.
  1. One is that you shouldmake more use of the preview button at the bottom of the edit screen (next to the save page button). This allows you to see the effect of changes without immediately posting them to the Wiki: you can then make one big edit when you're finally happy. The reason this is a good idea is because when people look in the History of an article, your edits appear as one single one, rather than a long list of small ones and it's much easier to see who has done what.
  2. You need to make better use of the edit summaries if you can manage to: if you can summarise what changes you have made so that people can see from the History how the page has evolved, this is very helpful.
  3. I suspect that the large chunks of text you pasted into Decentralisation may be reverted by other editors, because they lack any sources or wikilinks and because you didn't discuss them on the article talk page first. In future, try discussing your planned changes before you make them, and you might also prepare a big edit in your draft page first. Then you can add references and links before you paste into the main article.
  4. The edit to Empowerment is easier to manage because it's smaller. You need to source the list that you've made, even if you think it's self-evident. Who came up with this list? Where is it from? What alternative ways are there of categorising these features? Can you insert a citation so other people can go to the source? Without these things this is just original research. I hope this makes sense: reply here if you want to discuss further. Kim Dent-Brown (Talk) 13:37, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kim, See my referencing in Decentralisation and comment. I saved twice today as I had to refer the placing of reference list during my editing. Empowerment referencing will be done later as I have to find out that particular document from where I had copied the list for one of my articles. Rajankila (talk) 06:23, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Category:Local governance

edit

How is this category distinguished from Category:Local government in India? I think the latter name more accurately reflects the scope of this category. - Stepheng3 (talk) 22:47, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

CommentThe term local government denotes a third tier government in a particular locality whereas the term local governance is broader term that refers to all the processes such as the mechanisms (like elections) for creation of a local government, the evolutionary political processes resulting in creation of governments and the whole lot of comparatively abstract aspects such as accountability, transparency, responsiveness etc in the process of government functioning. But the term local government denotes the structure, functions functionaries and such other concrete aspects. So I said local governance was a better term for including much more diverse aspects than what we include under Local governments.
But, I had created a Category:Local governance last day which includes Local governments in India as a sub-category. So there is not need to change Local governments in India to Local governance in India. Now everything on the third tier government can be placed under local governanceRajankila (talk) 06:57, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Is Category:Local governance intended to include processes and mechanisms outside of India? --Stepheng3 (talk) 07:36, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Comment It is better to consider it as the mother category from where the entire lower categories relating to the emerging discipline Local Governance should emerge. That means it can include category Local governance in Brazil, Local governance in Columbia etc. Local governance in Brazil can have further sub category Local governments in Brazil and below that page on each Municipality can be added. That was my concept.Rajankila (talk) 05:16, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
I note that there's already a Category:Local government with subcategories including Category:Local government by country. Category:Local governance seems redundant with this category. - Stepheng3 (talk) 07:55, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Comment Certainly there is some confusion. It seems better to merge Local government in Local governance as the latter is a better term for the evolving subject. My intention while creating the Category:Local governance was to bring together all pages relating to Local governance. Kindly decide yourself as I don't find an appropriate categorization.Rajankila (talk) 11:44, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Peoplesplanning.jpg

edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Peoplesplanning.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 05:05, 1 May 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Radiant chains (talk) 05:05, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Comment I uploaded the file again as it is a Government owned emblem and is usable by us as Government Servants. I did not see the deletion tag in time to avert deletion done earlier. Rajankila (talk) 11:50, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
You tagged the image as "for Wikipedia use only". This license is not compatible with Wikipedia, as we permit the reuse of our content under the GFDL. Images with that licensing tag get a big red warning to their uploaders, and the images are deleted quickly. (ESkog)(Talk) 12:24, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Right to Information in local governments in Kerala

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Right to Information in local governments in Kerala requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:59, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Kudumbashree.jpg

edit

The file File:Kudumbashree.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 19 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
