Chennappa nayaka

The correct name was Chennappa nayakudu. Chennapatnam or the present day Chennai was named after him. He was not a polygar but a descendent of Vijayanagar chieftains. I have material on him. I shall expand the article.Kumarrao (talk) 15:50, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Requesting page protection

edit

Hello, You can request page protection at WP:RPP. The formatting is a little strange so I put a sample of what my understanding of the situation is below. Edit the content below to reflect your perspective, then in the edit mode copy all of the subsection, including the header and paste it at the top of the list on WP:RPP and sign your name.

Usually, protection is only granted for persistent (several times a day by multiple IPs) or blatant vandalism so I dont think semi-protection would be granted over what is essentially a content issue. However the long history of contentious edits to this article may make it a candidate for the new pending revisions option. Active Banana (talk) 15:15, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

pending revisions - article has a long history of contentious editing. Currently IP is editing against long standing article consensus and is not joining the discussion on the talk page.

Good work. I will do an endorse there.--Sodabottle (talk) 07:24, 1 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Kapu (caste)

edit

I edited this chaotic article several times but I was severely reprimanded. I requested the Users to edit the article several times. Unsubstantiated claims, hype and imaginary glory abound in the article. Controversial matters such as Chola descent, affiliation of Krishnadevaaraya, Thanjavur nayaks, Kattabomman etc need to be supported by solid proof. "Naidu" is often confused to be a caste, similar to that of "Reddy". These were titles prevalent in many other groups. Users are requested to be objective, historical and dispassionate. Users should give references as MathewVanitas indicated. Please keep a watch on this article. I shall work on Chennappa and Kalahsti nayaks.Kumarrao (talk) 12:54, 1 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Request

edit

Hi,

Req you to make make a space after each comma. Please note that "Social change among Balijas: majority community of Andhra Pradesh, by A. Vijaya Kumari, Sepuri Bhaskar" is not an authoritative work. They did not provide references for claims made in that book. Also note that Madura nayaks claimed Bana descent, not Tanjore nayaks. Your usage of "They were from the Telugu speaking Balija community [1] and claimed to be Kshatriyas of the Kashyapa Gotra [2]having a Bana descent [3]" in the Madurai Nayak dynasty article can be considered a peacock term. The Banas in the past have not claimed to be Kashyapa gotra. If you have anything susbtantial to add about the Banas, please do so with appropriate refrences. Otherwise I request you to refrain from inappropriate usage of the term Bana. Please use the normally used term Balija instead of balijawaru which is uncommom. I have removed some of your edits. Thankyou. --= No ||| Illusion = (talk) 11:50, 8 August 2010 (UTC)MayasutraReply

Additional req

edit

In the Thanjavur Nayak article, you mentioned "Added a reliable source for Caste Affiliation and removed Edgar Thurston since it is more of a manual of castes and doesn't give solid proof".

But you did not remove just the reference from Thurston. Instead you removed a bunch of references and susbtituted it with just one reference, that is the ref from Sepuri Bhaskar. From that book, you can get the names of various castes that existed at a point of time, but please provide other / authenticated references if you were to make other changes.

You changed the year of establising the tanjore nayak dynasty from 1535 to 1532 without providing any reference.

Am not sure what exactly you are doing. But seems like you are messing up the articles by changing info without references. If you continue to make changes without proper references, it will be considered vandalism, and i shall be forced to report it as such. Thanks. --= No ||| Illusion = (talk) 12:16, 8 August 2010 (UTC)MayasutraReply

Thanks for the clarification you made on my talk page, Raghavan. But provide references whereever you make changes wrt historical facts. Caste puranas and caste manuals are hardly authentic sources. However, it is good to check for references they used in those books / publications. I prefer evidence based on inscriptions or from publications such as Epigraphica Indica (archeology dept / history dept / government archives, etc). If you do not know about Banas, leave the topic alone. Do not delete or make changes.
Also note, a large section of Lingayaths are Balijas in Karnataka. They are Kannadigas. They do not know Telugu. No need to claim that they speak Telugu / Kannada "as well".
Balikula is a clan, not a caste. Various members of a clan or a region (Balikula Nadu) cannot be professing the same occupation. So varna claims won't apply here. There is no point claiming that certain occupations / castes do not belong to Balijas. Neither do mother tongue claims apply in such case. The Banas existed during the Iron age Vedic period -- and at that time languages such as Telugu and Kannada did not exist. So no point trying to show that the mother tongue of Balijas everywhere is telugu. Thanks. --= No ||| Illusion = (talk) 00:42, 9 August 2010 (UTC)MayasutraReply
Raghavan, Lingayaths are not sub-castes of Balijas. They are proper Kannadigas. Please stop making unsubstantiated claims. Please stop making baseless claims of 20% or whatever based on your personal knowledge. You are making edits merely for the sake of making edits without providing anything substantial. If you keep making changes without proper references, i will report you for vandalism. --= No ||| Illusion = (talk) 03:52, 9 August 2010 (UTC)MayasutraReply
Linga Balijas have been mentioned as a sub-caste by Sepuri Bhaskar. It is not correct. The Lingayaths or Veerashaivas are a social-group (and not a subcaste of balijas) from Karnataka. Balijas of Karnataka adopted Veerashaivism and became Lingayaths. They are proper Kannadigas, with Kannada as their mother-tongue. I will make appropriate changes in the Balija article later.--= No ||| Illusion = (talk) 04:06, 9 August 2010 (UTC)MayasutraReply

Regarding The "Reddy" Conflict

edit

First of all I would like to say to you one-thing friend. Originally there are only 4 castes and there is no 5th one. So, what about these thousands of so-called castes originated???they are social groups that have evolved during the course of time. Reddy was once a title, but it got consolidated as social group (we consider as caste in present scenario). The word "Karanam" is just a title, but i found a caste called Karanam in South AP (It seems they r similar to a caste in TN called Pillai). In this history of reddy one can say that it was actually a "title" but in due course of time consolidated to be a Social group ('Saamaajika Vargam' which is used now a days to denote the present castes). As far as i know the origin of Reddy,Kamma, Velama and Kapu is same. Bsskchaitanya (talk) 04:14, 17 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree. All agrarian social groups in Telugu land belong to Shudra category. According to Thurston even Rajus belong to military sections of Kamma and Kapu groups. There was considerable genetic churning over several centuries after Aryans met Dravidians down south. No varna remained pure which is the reason why one finds fairest and darkest persons in all varnas. This is supported by recent molecular studies. We only merrily go on living in our own coccoons and perpetuate the "caste" myth.Kumarrao (talk) 16:14, 21 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Reverting

edit

Hey. Yeah it's awfully tedious, especially when it comes too often. What I do is that I go to Edit History and simply click on the most recent "good edit" version (for example, 12:15 October 9, 2010) done by a trustworthy editor that was done before an editor who did lots of vandalism. Once I'm at the page of that version I click Edit on the top of that page and I save that. That way, all the most recent vandalism will be erased and the article will be restored to the last best version you chose. However, its important to becareful not to accidently good faith edits that might have been done in between the vandalising edits. Another probably easier and safer way to instantly revert edits done by editors who vandalise is by using certain tools or apps. Unfortunately, I have never used such tools but I do see some editors using them. I also don't know if we are allowed to use them or if they are for admins only. Good luck on finding that out! Film release dates

edit

I see you have re-added release date information, but this time it is about India only. At first, you were saying "international markets", but individual territories are not generally considered significant and should not be individually listed. Instead, we prefer the earliest release date from the territory where the film was produced, which in this case is the U.S. on June 30. Please see WP:FILMRELEASE for more info. -- GoneIn60 (talk) 14:55, 28 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Did you read WP:FILMRELEASE? It says, "The film infobox is too small to reproduce the long lists of release dates ... Release dates should therefore be restricted to the film's earliest release". It is not preferred to create a long list of release dates for multiple countries. Only the primary date for the country the film was produced in should be included, unless there's a compelling reason to include others. --GoneIn60 (talk) 17:59, 28 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
At MOS:FILM#Release, it also states, "Do not include information on the film's release in every territory." This should probably be discussed on the article's talk page to gain consensus for inclusion. --GoneIn60 (talk) 18:02, 28 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I just noticed some of your recent changes related to neighborhood or suburbs of Chennai. Tambaram and Avadi are not satellite cities despite the presence of municipal corporations but are indeed suburbs of Chennai, lying within the city's metropolitan area. They are traditionally considered urban neighbourhoods and are part of the CMA. The creation of municipal corporations were just for administrative purposes. Only cities such as Arakkonam, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram are considered satellite cities of Chennai but still we need sources to add them. Rasnaboy (talk) 02:59, 8 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

edit

The article Thug Life (2024 film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NFF as it hasn't yet begun filming.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

edit

Hi, Your use of IA as reference has been reverted. This is because even though you have updated the box office gross of using a reliable website, there is a problem. The websites that you used in your references use sacnilk.com as their reference which is considered to be unreliable as per WP:ICTFSOURCES. So even though the websites themselves are reliable, the numbers that they use from sacnilk is unreliable. Accordingly, when you add a reference from any website, please try to check if their source for box office information is reliable. Audit Guy (talk) 02:00, 12 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Draft:Fight Club (2023 Tamil film)

edit

Hey Raghavan2010, I have moved the article Fight Club (2023 Tamil film) to draft space as it was too early to be on mainspace. It would not survive an AfD If proposed. Per WP:NFF, you can move it to mainspace when principal photography commences. By then, it would have significant coverage hopefully. Cheers <3 Jeraxmoira (talk) 21:08, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Elango Kumaravel and Blue Star

edit

Hello @Raghavan2010. I am @Archer1234. I noticed the edits that added Blue Star to the filmography for Elango Kumaravel. I wanted you to know why I reverted those edits. As I noted in the edit summary, per WP:FILMOGRAPHY: we do not add future film projects until filming has begun as verified by a reliable source. If there are reliable sources that can verify filming has begun, please feel free to restore the edit, but add citations to those sources. Thank you. Koramangala

edit

Hi @Raghavan2010, you and I are engaged in an edit war on the Koramangala page, and it needs to stop. After I reverted your initial edit, here [3], you should have started a discussion instead of reverting back. As far as I can tell, you insist on needlessly modifying the spacing in the infobox, you've added unreferenced content (with a cn tag!), and you've swapped out one ref, without providing a reason. None of these seems constructive to me, which is why I've repeatedly reverted you. Can you please explain what you are up to? Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 13:33, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Where the edits are unconstructive? As a neighborhood of an Indian City, few necessary details have been added.India Post has been given as a reference for the pincodes.Further the location section has been edited to mention the exact location along with mentioning adjoining neighbourhoods.Transport also has been created as a new section. Will be adding sources for these. Please stop unnecessarily reverting the edits. Raghavan(Talk) 14:14, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
It seems you've misunderstood what I tried to say, and instead, you are making this about me. I'm letting you know that you have added no value to the article with your minor edits, and unreferenced content is not permitted on Wikipedia. Until you have proper references to support new content, do not add it. If you persist in this type of activity, I will make a report at the administrators' noticeboard. Varshangalkku Sesham

edit

Hey, thanks for adding critical reception for the movie, but do not use terms such as positive reviews unless explicitly stated by the sources. Have a look at WP:SYNTH and WP:OR for further datails. So far, I found IE using the term mixed reviews, which I have mentioned in the lede and rewrote the section you added, with an inline cite. Additionally, please copyedit and cleanup for typos and spaces per MOS when you are adding long sections, if possible. Thanks and happy editing. — The Herald (Benison) (talk) 04:31, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
