https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Traveling_Miles edit

I am not editing this article but just making comments for whomever wrote it or wants to edit it. The article is about Cassandra Wilson's album Traveling Miles which is based in large part on some of Miles Davis' music, for which Wilson wrote lyrics.

The most important issue as I see it is that the article reads more like something from Rolling Stone or some other music rag rather than what it should be, i.e., an encylopedic article. It relies heavily on quotations from music critics, two of whom are very negative, particularly the first. If you are going to give a balanced encyclopedic treatment, 2 vs. 1 is not professional. Furthermore, the first quote misuses the expression "in thrall" in such a way that it is not clear whether Wilson enthralls her friends, or is enthralled by them. Just bad writing. I suggest dropping this quote so that you have one positive and one negative.

I happen to love this album, which I feel is superb. I don't see what the point is of giving arbitrarily chosen ratings from various critics which on the whole make this out to be a mediocre album at best. This is not the point of an encyclopedic article. Whoever wrote this should rely on their own writing rather than quotations, or at least a combination of the two. Music critics are often conceited and otherwise egotistical. Their words and ratings tell me very little about the album, except for the middle of the three quotes.
