Help me! edit

Why has my section on Rankings of Medical Colleges in India been removed from the Page Medical college in India? This table is based on rankings done by National Institutional Ranking Framework, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. NIRF rankings are the only official ranking system in India and are based on sound principles developed. The rankings had been cited and the refernce was provided. [1] Please put the section back in the article. I worked hard on it and it is not based on presumptions but on hard facts.[2] Please help me with...

See Wikipedia:Copyright in lists. We cannot accept lists which appear to be copyrighted, and a list of rankings is by its nature not in the public domain. Yunshui  12:49, 13 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hi R.Kaps. Generally speaking, the best place to ask questions about an article is in the article's talk page. You can (and should) ping the editors involved. If someone made an edit you do not understand you can also use their talk page to initiate conversation. If you use you own talk page you can, but again, make sure to ping the editors involved.
As for your question, Yunshui already answered it, but let me add that if an edit you made was reverted, the edit summary should explain why. You can find the edit summary at the article's history page. My edit summary said exactly this: Wikipedia:Copyright in lists. I think that is pretty self-explanatory. I will add that the subject was discussed before and the consensus reached is the same, that these list have little encyclopedic value, are usually copyright protected and are readily available at the original website if someone needs them. If you want to add them you will need to start discussion and change the consensus. --Muhandes (talk) 12:58, 13 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Muhandas! Thanks but the reasons given are pretty arbitary; there is no ranking in India; Only magazines provide the rankings and stuff like that. The mute point is how do you improve the page. Get it to the current year and provide all information about the page. This topic is vital! Coming to the rankings - they are always used to depict the correct picture and should not be whimsical. They are to be quoted and i didn't copy paste. Wikipedia has a standing and i find no reason why the information should not be assimilated on that page which is of relevance. Nowadays, students use rankings to aid them in selection of medical colleges. Rest is what the consensus is! Thanks! R.Kaps (talk) 13:55, 13 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia does not exist to help students choose a school. That is entirely irrelevant to the discussion. The ranking of schools (or anything else) in a particular order by a magazine or similar is an act of creative expression, and is therefore covered by copyright. When you add content to Wikipedia, you are claiming that you own the copyright and are willing to release it under a CC-BY-SA licence, or that the material is already available under a free licence. Unless you can prove that you created these rankings, or that the magazines/other list sources have released their content into the public domain (or at the least, have released it under CC-BY-SA or similar), you are infringing on their copyright by adding this list to Wikipedia.
In short: lists of rankings like this are irrelevant to Wikipedia's purpose, and are copyright violations. Please do not add such content again. Yunshui  14:04, 13 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the inputs! I shall not! Though this ranking is by the government for public consumption! Not sure about CC-BY-SA! Thanks for your inputs! Slow;y i will learn and improve. Thanks again R.Kaps (talk) 14:31, 13 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

"For public consumption" is not the same as "public domain". In fact, one can argue that all material over the Internet is for public consumption - it is the reason why it is put there. Not only are the rankings not CC-BY-SA, they are Copyright © 2018, National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), MHRD. All rights reserved.
Now, if you want to help, first I suggest you joint WP:INEI, there is very little action there recently and I'm sure they will appreciate more interested and active editors. By consensus, adding a neutral ranking sentence to articles about institutes is acceptable, so if this interests you, I am usually updating {{Infobox India university ranking}} by request, but I do not have time (or frankly, interest) to update the articles themselves. I just updated All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi as an example, similar sentences can be added to all medical colleges in India articles. I'd be willing to update the template with the other rankings, if you show interest in updating rankings in articles. Have fun.--Muhandes (talk) 08:08, 14 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot! I would definitely like to update rankings in articles; just guide me how to start and when! Good day R.Kaps (talk) 16:06, 15 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Already gave you an example, see All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. You can go down the NIRF list and add/update similar tests to articles. Just jump in, and feel free to ping me by using {{ping|Muhandes}} if you have any questions, or are not sure what to do. --Muhandes (talk) 18:30, 15 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

{{ping|Muhandes} How to join WP:INEI Thanks R.Kaps (talk) 06:39, 23 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Simply add yourself to the list of participants, there should be instructions there. By the way, that ping didn't work, see WP:PING for more instructions. --Muhandes (talk) 09:24, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I left you another example of how to update rankings at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research. I also note that you are adding lists of courses to articles. Per WP:UNIGUIDE these should not be added. --Muhandes (talk) 15:59, 30 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Noted for the rankings. Also noted that no listing of courses to be done, but a para describing numbers and type of courses under academic headings is the way to go. Thanks. R.Kaps (talk) 01:32, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

External links and COI edit

  Hello, R.Kaps. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the COI guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Kuru (talk) 21:03, 18 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I have NO conflict of interest with any site i use for citation. I am a surgeon and working full time in my profession. I refer to a few site consistently as it gets the required information; and having used these sites for research, found them reliable. Thanks. R.Kaps (talk) 00:59, 19 August 2019 (UTC) Please help me with proposed changes request; thanks I have worked in Christian Medical College, Ludhiana for 20 years; is that a COI? I can change citations if you suggest; but will have to use third party sites only. Please advice. R.Kaps (talk) 01:37, 19 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

It seems to be an amazing coincidence that you share a name with the owner of the link you've been adding to dozens of articles, even after being warned that it is inappropriate. I'm sure you'll agree that the appearance of impropriety should be avoided; please be more cautious in your sourcing. Kuru (talk) 11:53, 19 August 2019 (UTC) Yeah, i saw that; checked myself! Will use other citations for sourcing; no issues! R.Kaps (talk) 11:20, 20 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Note that collegedunia is also considered non reliable, please don't use it. --Muhandes (talk) 14:58, 6 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
