Mary Wooley edit

Hey what's with the redirect blanking? Galobtter (pingó mió) 17:49, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

It appears the user would like to paste in a new article. R!A Editor, what you can do is simply paste your article right over the redirect in the same edit, rather than blanking and then pasting. Other editors may be confused if you blank without posting the new content. --Jprg1966 (talk) 17:54, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Jprg1966 Well he did paste in his page but then self-reverted - R!A editor, if you need any help or are confused, just ask :) Galobtter (pingó mió) 17:57, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Galobtter, please also view the COI notice below. --Jprg1966 (talk) 17:59, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello, thank you very much for your feedback. I'm extremely new to Wikipedia and came across the existing page "Mary Woolley" which is the same name as a page I'd like to create for the CEO of an organization for which I work. That's why I keep overriding the redirect with the content I'd like to add. I initially created a draft but thought it would be quicker to add content to the existing page with the same name. Any feedback or tips would be greatly appreciated! --R!A Editor (talk) 18:27, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of interest? edit

R!A Editor, another issue may be necessary to discuss here. It seems the person you're trying to post an article about is affiliated with a company called Research!America. Would you happen to have an affiliation with that organization, as well? If so, your editing could constitute a conflict of interest. Please discuss this issue before posting your article. Thank you. --Jprg1966 (talk) 17:59, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

It's also a copyvio of http://www.researchamerica.org/mary-woolley :(. Don't copy copyrighted content from websites into wikipeida Galobtter (pingó mió) 18:06, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

R!A Editor, your failure to address multiple concerns about your editing is a problem. Please stop steamrolling other editors. If you persist, I will request an administrator block this account from editing. --Jprg1966 (talk) 18:20, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the feedback. I'm extremely new to Wikipedia and was trying to create a page for my organization's CEO, Mary Woolley. I realized a page with that name already exists and thought it might make sense to edit the existing page instead of creating a new one with the same name. --R!A Editor (talk) 18:27, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your patient response.
As I mentioned above, editing Wikipedia on topics with which you have a close relationship is strongly discouraged. In addition, adding material that is copyrighted by an outside organization cannot be posted on Wikipedia. However, it is possible that Ms. Woolley would be suitable for a Wikipedia article. In general, a subject must meet notability requirements. I appreciate your eagerness to write this article, but I recommend instead that you request the article instead of writing it yourself. You can make a request for a businessman's article here. Galobtter, your input is also welcome—AfC is an option, but I'm not sure it would be appropriate given the COI.
Thanks. --Jprg1966 (talk) 18:35, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

That's really helpful. Thanks. I'll pass that information along to my supervisor. If I request to have an article written, can I provide the content and sources that I'd like the writer to include? Thanks again for your suggestions. I appreciate it. --R!A Editor (talk) 18:40, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

What you should do is write a draft (either license the text using WP:Donating_copyrighted_materials, or write your own encylopaedic draft), and then submit it through articles for creation, where someone will review the article for notability and for promotionalism from the conflict of interest you have. Galobtter (pingó mió) 18:48, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
I can also try a write of the article myself later today, assuming the subject meets the notability requirements. --Jprg1966 (talk) 18:51, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. I'll do that. --R!A Editor (talk) 18:53, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Also, your username is not allowed, per our policy on usernames; advised to go to Wikipedia:Changing_username and request a change in username. Galobtter (pingó mió) 18:54, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Will do. Thanks. --R!A Editor (talk) 18:55, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

I've put File:Mary_Woolley.jpg for speedy deletion; it is listed as copyrighted on your organization's website and so must be donated Galobtter (pingó mió) 18:56, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Alright, thanks. --R!A Editor (talk) 19:00, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Jprg1966, thanks for the offer to write. I'll run all the possible options of how to proceed by my supervisor. Depending on the response, I might take you up on your offer in the future (if you have time and are still willing) or I might write a draft and license the text in question, as Galobtter suggested. Thanks again for all the helpful feedback today. --R!A Editor (talk) 19:21, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Mary Woolley (President and CEO of Research!America) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mary Woolley (President and CEO of Research!America) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.researchamerica.org/mary-woolley. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
