2023 albums - reference formatting

Hi there,

Is there a reason that my formatted ref was undone on the List of 2023 albums page? With the linked website and archive links etc etc

thank you! - Peterpie123rww (talk) 22:47, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

@Peterpie123rww That's just the standard ref style across the article series. Mburrell is the main one who enforces that and I'm sure they can explain their reasoning. It also helps to cut down on article size issues to only archive refs when we need to, and given size has been a recurring issue with this series (notice how both List of 2021 albums and List of 2022 albums are split in half) it's worth taking any measure available to avoid that. @Peterpie123rww, QuietHere is correct when stating that it is primarily a size issue. The goal is not split articles if at all possible, and the standard format used throughout the entire List of Albums series is about as small as a reference can be and still have all the critical information. There is no need to include archive links unless the web reference cite is dead, and even then it would use a smaller footprint to locate another citation that does not require an archive link. Archive links are size hogs, and they are very useful in articles where critical information is gleaned from a variety of articles, but is not really needed when the only requirement is a news or review citation that can show album notability. Minimizing the size of citations and removing citations for self-notable albums are the two main methods of keeping size down on these lists, and reducing the size of split lists to the point that they may become small enough to re-merge back into a single list article for the year again.
As for a standardized format, it is useful to manage article preferences that I have been applying to this list such as spelled out languages for foreign articles instead of using language codes, using a spelled out month, then day and year, and ensuring that citation sources are credited to the authors when possible. Last year we overflowed the buffer of allowed citations, and having a consistent format allowed an administrator to apply a code fix throughout over 99% of the citations to repair the buffer overload. @Mburrell @QuietHere thank you for the clarification! Good to know for any future edits on that page. Best, Peterpie123rww (talk) 09:59, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

Draft and mainspace article of Manic Dream Pixie

Are you intending to eventually have your draft version (that you copied from Manic Dream Pixie before it was redirected by discussion) reinstated into the mainspace? Because then that would be getting rid of the pre-existing history and who actually created the content (even if not that substantial), which was Evelyn Marie. Sure, Evelyn restoring the article in mainspace in a not-much-better condition isn't great, but nor is what I think you're intending to do, which is overwrite the mainspace page's history with what you copied. If that happens, I will be requesting a histmerge with the original mainspace page's history—taking credit for Evelyn Marie's or any other user's content isn't right. @Ss112 You've got it backwards. Evelyn Marie copy-pasted the draft submission to mainspace. I've explained their mistake in more detail on the draft's talk page. You receiving the CsD notice was an automated process thanks to Twinkle. Apologies for the confusion! QuietHere (talk | contributions) 21:07, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
I'm well aware what's happened. Maybe Evelyn did copy-paste it back into mainspace, but you didn't originate the content in the first place. You made additional changes. That could be solved with a histmerge, but your draft history should not eventually overwrite the original mainspace page history. Ss112 21:20, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
@Ss112 @Evelyn Marie hold on a second, I'm sorry. I see what you're both saying now and I see where the confusions lies. I misremembered that the page was only redirected at AfD, not moved to draftspace directly, and that I copied it into draftspace from there. I could've sworn it was the other way around. That's my mistake. In this case, yes, a history merge should solve the issues at hand. Apologies again, that's what I get for reading too quickly when I'm overwhelmed.
