ML, Bolshevik-Leninism and Trotskyism edit

Hi. Trotskyists considered themselves as 'Bolshevik-Leninists', a term used in contradiction to 'Marxism-Leninism'. Marxism-Leninism is not identical to ther term Leninism. It is not pov to differentiate ML from Trotskyism, whereas it is pov to brand people as 'Stalinists'. --Soman 15:26, 25 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Trotskists consider themselves Marxists and Bolshevik-Leninists, so to an uninformed reader, the statement fractured into two distinct branches: Marxism-Leninism and Trotskyism would sound like Trotskyism is against both Marxism and Leninism, even though "Marxism-Leninism" is meant here to describe Stalinism. The original language used, offshoots of the Soviet (what critics call Stalinist, and supporters call Marxist-Leninist) which you also wish to remove, supports that argument, that Trotskyists are against the Stalinist interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, but not against Marxism or Leninism. The section on Trotskyism does need to be expanded since it says nothing about their beliefs or differences. As it is now though, Stalinism and Trotskyism is clearer than the more expanded accurate comparison, Marxist-Leninist and Bolshevik-Leninist. It would be pov to wrongly brand people 'Stalinists', but not to label the policies/theories of the Soviet Union/Comintern under Stalin as 'Stalinist', and that is the comparison being made. There would be a clear pov in such a formulation. Trotskyists do not, generally speaking, mind being called Trotskyists. Moreover, they clearly use the term 'Trotskyism' today more often than 'Bolshevik-Leninism'. However, 'Stalinism' is a pejorative, and has never been accepted by the ML movement as a correct naming. Moreover, 'Stalinism' and ML is clearly not synonymous, as the wording 'critics call, supporters call' is directly misleading. The fact that readers might be uniformed on a subject is not resolved by departing from encyclopediatic correctness. Having a clear ML chapter in the article clarifies that it is a different concept than Trotskyism. --Soman 20:08, 25 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

That Stalin's interpretation of Marxism-Leninism is different than Trotskyism isn't in dispute, nor is the need for separate sections. Anyway what is missing is a simple explanation, as from the ML article: Whether Stalin's practices actually followed the principles of Marx and Lenin is still a subject of debate ... Trotskyists in particular believe that Stalinism contradicted authentic Marxism and Leninism, and they initially used the term "Bolshevik-Leninism" to describe their own ideology of anti-Stalinist (and later anti-Maoist) communism. With something like that there is no confusion comparing ML with Trotskyism. Questioning81 21:18, 25 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
