POV entries

Please stop inserting rants into articles that represent a point of view. If you feel a need to "inform" people about companies' wrongdoings, I suggest you buy some webspace and build a homepage. Wikipedia not a soapbox, as you undoubtedly know. --R. Wolff 10:45, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Everything i have written is factual truth and important to know. The article on ragnarok online for instance was complete rubbish, the entire section regarding security was completely fabricated and failed to mention any instances of the real situation regarding Gravity's handling of cheaters and hackers. Most of it was perfectly suited for a propaganda brochure issued by Gravity. Anyone who has actually played the game for a small period of time and participated in the community would be deeply offended by the blatant lies told in the article. -- Question2

I don't doubt that, but still it represents a point of view, and most of what you wrote would be perfectly suited for a propagande brochure as well. You basically wrote a review, and Wikipedia just isn't a place for reviews, y'see? --R. Wolff 15:13, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

How is it suitable for a propaganda brochure when everything are facts? Proapganda implies that you are either blatantly lying or telling half-truths. -- Question2

You wrote your opinion into the article with the intent to convince readers of it. Maybe not even intentionally, but you did since that's what it ultimately read like. If you think criticism of the game is underrepresented, why don't you find a sourced review? --R. Wolff 11:47, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bleach edits

edit

Hi, please try to avoid making overtly elaborate edits regarding Bleach - we are trying to keep the articles from being a 'blow-by-blow' description of the series. Also please try to pay attention to spelling and grammar. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 20:34, 16 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Also please make sure that your edits are correct before making them. If you are unsure, please use the talk page and don't make the edit until at least one other frequent editor has replied to your query. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 21:32, 16 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of GAR meme

edit

An editor has nominated GAR meme, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/GAR meme and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Kara no Kyokai images

edit

In order to help solve the dispute you've been involved with on the KnK character images, I've uploaded a group image of the main cast that shows everyone significant from before just as clearly. Hopefully that should satisfy you, the other editors already have no problem with it.

I'm sorry if the limits on image usage seem unfair, but we're rather strict on the use of images that just show how things look for legal reasons. There's a lot of copyright mumbo jumbo involved, but the bottom line is that if we use images just for "decorative" reasons Wikipedia could get sued. (The usage rules are at this page, in case you haven't seen them.) If you want to add more images to the KnK page, it is possible, but they'll have to be used for other purposes. Images can be legally used to help the article discuss major plot points so, for example, a picture of Shiki looking at the lines on an enemy could be added to help show how her ability works. (It might be hard to fit in to the character section though, since stacks of images are absolute havoc on page formatting.) On a last note, you should be aware that if you keep readding the images to the page, an administrator will probably come and block you for violating the three revert rule. And I won't be able to help you then, since that particular policy doesn't have any wiggle room in it.

If you have any questions, please come and ask me on my talk page. Have a good day, and better luck with your future edits. --erachima talk 03:34, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I can sympathize with your frustration, and in fact already complained to Juhachi about the method and tone he was using. However, the group image solution for character lists has long been established as best practice, so any wider discussion we had on the article talk page would simply result in consensus for the group image. Because of this, few if any other editors would agree that Juhachi needs sanctioned for vandalism, since he was enforcing a valid guideline, albeit in a poorly thought out way. They would probably agree he was incivil, but all that earns you is a talking-to from another editor asking you to be nicer next time, which he's already received.
In the case of other lists, most do in fact use group images, and those which don't, should. That there are some which do not comply is just because nobody's bothered to fix it yet (mostly because it starts fights). Remember, however, that as editors we are supposed to make our pages as good as we can, not just the least bad we can get away with. The gold standard would be featured list List of Naruto characters, which uses group images. Characters who have individual articles are a different case, as, unlike character list articles, characters with individual pages are supposed to be independently notable. It's a subtle distinction, but an important one for image policy purposes. You'll notice that while Ichigo Kurosaki has several images, the Bleach character lists such as List of hollows in Bleach, List of characters in Bleach, List of Soul Reapers in Bleach, and Visoreds all use group shots. Personally, I've found that the best way to avoid conflicts over fair use images is to focus on images that really improve reader understanding, rather than exactly how many I can get away with using for mere illustration. If you have more questions about the limits on fair use images, you could ask the people at WT:NFC, or me. --erachima talk 21:23, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
