Go for it. I did a non-admin close at the AfD.--Torchwood Who? (talk) 15:19, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Adopter

Hi Queerbubbles, I am RyRy5 and I am asking if I could adopt you. I have contributed over 800 times! I edit at wikipedia everyday so I am always available. Please accept me to become your adopter. You can look at my amazing Userpage if you want to see more about me. Please contact me at my Talkpage. Wink, Wink ;)--RyRy5 (talk) 03:28, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

No offense... But I'm looking for someone who has done considerably more than I have. I'm already at 500+, and you started after I did. So hope you dont take offense, but I would prefer someone more exerienced. Thanks for noticing though! Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 15:06, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, I guess I'll look for someone else. Thanks for your kindness. Also sign my Guest book. Just click on Guest Book on this userbox:

Veteran editor

If either of you ever need help I will do what I can. I'm a veteran editor (2+ years, 8000+ edits). - House of Scandal (talk) 16:18, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Again

I just wanted to tell you that I have made 2400+ edits and I have a new signature and improved userpage. I would like to adopt you, I also made this new thing called my Adoption Program.--RyRy5 talk 02:53, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

I was nice previously, however now I am irritated. The majority of your "2000+" edits are made to your OWN pages. These are not exactly contributative edits. I do not want you as my adopter. Infact, I removed the adopt me template due to this. Please, take the hint!! Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 10:39, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, I will leave you alone. Until I become an admin.--RyRy5 talk 16:41, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
I do not know what you are inferring in that last sentance. If you mean to say that you are planning on taking retaliation against me for not wanting you to adopt me, then that needs to be brought to an admin's attention. I hope you are not insinuating that you plan to make my life here hell. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 16:48, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Never mind what I said. Bye:).--RyRy5 talk 16:52, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
FYI, I have brought this conversation to the attention of an admin. I do not take threats lightly. I realize you have redacted what you wrote on my page, however I need to ensure that that sentence is seen by other admins who might take notice of your RfA should you apply for one. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 17:00, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
That sentence meant that I wanted to be an admin, and I wanted you to know I will try to become one.--RyRy5 talk 17:07, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
I am very sorry...It wasn't a threat by the way, It's just a dream I have.--RyRy5 talk 17:12, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

College of Arts and Sciences

Hi--I made some notes on the College of Arts and Sciences assessment comments toward moving it past Start class--I'm no expert so wanted to throw this open for discussion. See my note on the WikiProject page.Tjarrett (talk) 14:07, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Heya babe. I took some of your suggestions to heart regarding the CLAS page, however I'm finding it near impossible to find anything regarding the history of the CLAS. If you see any links or books which could help out, throw them my way. I would love to see that article find its potential. I did go ahead and add a smattering of notable alumni from the CLAS website. Its just so hard to get information to distinguish between the University and teh CLAS itself. Anyway, thanks for leaving the feedback, and apologies for not getting back to you earlier. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 11:45, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your changes--definitely going in the right direction. WRT history, the two sources that are definitive for UVA are Philip Alexander Bruce's History of the University of Virginia, 1819-1919 (5 volumes, available on Google Books or the Internet Archive) and Virginius Dabney's Mr. Jefferson's University: A History covering 1919 - 1974, available on the UVA library digital archives. A quick scan of the latter indicates some interesting points such as the move to coeducation in the early 1970s (CLAS was the last school at UVA to admit women) that might be relevant to the article. As to the former, the formal establishment of the College and Graduate departments happened at the same time as the arrival of President Edwin Alderman and so might be said to trigger the beginning of UVA's modern history. There's probably good material in the Board of Visitors minutes too. Feel free to have a whack at it, or I might take a shot later. Tjarrett (talk) 14:19, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Ahh, online archives... what would wikipedians do without you? Thanks for the info, and I'll take a looksie. Its gonna be a big project, but we'll figure it out. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 14:21, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Your issue with RyRy

Hi there. You're always welcome to bring issues to me, don't worry about it. I've left a note for RyRy strongly suggesting that s/he disengage from conversation with you unless it's a fairly critical issue. Usually a stern note works pretty well for something like this. I think you handled it okay, and I'll be surprised if you continue to have problems. If you do, though, please let me know and I'll follow-up. I should clarify that I think this is not much more than an over-eager person trying to be helpful, but you're well within your rights to say that they're not the type of use you'd like as an adopter. I would tend to agree that a more experienced editor would be a much better fit for you. I'm a little surprised to see someone as inexperienced as RyRy trying to adopt users, but it happens sometimes. - Philippe | Talk 22:09, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks babe, you rock. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 00:28, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
My pleasure.  :-) - Philippe | Talk 02:25, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Peter Shaw (Australia)

Please see my edit summary. I suggest you AfD it. Thanks for tagging. --Dweller (talk) 12:30, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Oh I have no problem with it, I was patrolling and noticed that it had a hangon tag on it (as new) and saw that it had been speedied earlier. If the admin saw fit to delete it once, then I just reposted it to get someone's attention to it. I have no clue who the guy is.  ;) Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 12:35, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure he is notable. I'll drop the rugby WikiProject a line and see what they say. --Dweller (talk) 12:36, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Go ahead and drop the note... I'll start up an AfD for it. Oh a seperate note... they should really streamline that process. I guess it has so many steps so people wont AfD everything in sight. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 12:43, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
OMG I couldn't agree more. The RU WikiProject seems pretty moribund, so I dropped a note (and an email) to one of their most active contributors, to check out the accuracy of the RU-related claims. This guy actually could be notable for any one of a number of reasons, but I worry that he's actually achieved lots of nn things that amass to look quite good, but don't stand up to scrutiny. Specifically, I suspect he didn't play 1st XV rugby for Victoria, but I need to AGF and I'll certainly wait and see. --Dweller (talk) 12:47, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
AfD is up here. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 12:49, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Puzzle Pirates

Awesome work on the puzzle pirates issue - I think that the things you mentioned in the Verifiability page really asked what needed to be asked - an issue that's going to be a struggle for *all* online games, really. I'm glad to have someone like you keeping an eye on the Puzzle Pirates page - I know it's in good hands. X-Kal (talk) 05:32, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Aww, thanks babe! Just doing what I can.  ;) Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 09:23, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Nothing444

Yeah, I'm keeping a very close eye on that situation. There are actually two blocks involved. Thanks for making sure I know, though - like you, I'd hate for there to be long term issues. I also don't want to run off people who mean well, but I will absolutely be closely monitoring it. Thanks! - Philippe | Talk 21:21, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

UPV

Thanks. Such is the bane of the anti-vandals sometimes. Toddst1 (talk) 10:28, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

....32. Last week. There's a pic of me at [[Image:Philippe.JPG]], so it must be true because no one on the internets would use fake pics, would they? - Philippe 23:00, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

23, but then again... I have both pic and birthday counter thingy userbox widget thingimabob. Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 23:43, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, crap, now I gotta get me one of them widgets that counts birthdays. - Philippe 00:11, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Comment at MFD

Good comment, and reflects some of my concerns about adoption programs generally.

I like the idea of mentoring generally but I think that has to be at the instigation of the person being mentored. I had an unofficial mentor for about 3 months before becoming an admin (they were happy to answer my questions and look at disputes I was having trouble solving) but they would probably never have seen their role that way and were just happy to pass on their knowledge to someone who asked a lot of questions and was keen to learn.

There are some very very good adopters who have a long history on the project, who understand its aims and who give their adoptees room to explore but there's just as many who are users with poor reputations who put adoptees off with lists of do's and don'ts and arduous "training programs" that some newbies unfortunately think is necessary in order to participate. I oppose any bar to participation - all good faith users who want to help the project can participate, and they'll get the idea if they stuff up as long as people don't come down too hard on them. (Some of my earliest edits were cringeworthy :))

Anyway, good luck with it all. Orderinchaos 01:04, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

I entirely agree. The way I see it... Philippe here is my unofficial big brother. I met him in a 3rr warning (ick) and since then if I have any issues, I go ahead and bring it to him. Otherwise, I do some digging for answers to random things such as format, policy, images and all that fun stuff. But see, the fact that I do that searching is a good thing, because instead of someone spoon feeding me the stuff, I actually learn how to find utilities. Anyway. I didnt want to actually "vote" in the MfD since I had a previous issue with RyRy and I didnt want anyone to figure a conflict of interest. Thanks for your comments! Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 01:22, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
That's excellent :) Agreed re the spoon feeding comment - one does need a level of self sufficiency to function here and I think it's important to develop that early. My questions when I was newish usually took the form "I need to do this and have looked everywhere but can't find where to do that" or "How does that work/how did you do that?" or "I've gotten in a dispute, how do I bring attention to this without getting in trouble?" and the answers directed me to things like Special:Prefixindex, Special:Linksearch (like a "what links here" for external links, useful when a major government department we reference extensively decides to suddenly and unexpectedly move their entire site!), citation templates and understanding when to take what to which noticeboards or WikiProject talk pages where appropriate. Orderinchaos 01:37, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Definitely not an admin. If you ever want to check to be certain, go to Special:Listusers and key in the first 7 or 8 characters of their nick. Orderinchaos 13:35, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Ahh I see what's happened. This is not the user in question's fault, it's a generic userbox which has the problem. I'll raise it at the relevant noticeboard. Orderinchaos 06:12, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
