Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Video game by mode

edit

A tag has been placed on Category:Video game by mode indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 03:09, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

May 2024

edit

Hi QuantumFoam66! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Talk:Ultrakill that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. I don't disagree with your edit, but be careful when marking edits as minor. Thank you for your time. TheWikiToby (talk) 04:26, 11 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm TylerBurden. An edit that you recently made to Finnish language seemed to be a test and has been reverted. If you want to practice editing, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. You can also use the preview function to view your change rather than making it and then reverting yourself. TylerBurden (talk) 12:58, 23 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Removing Category:Video game levels from articles

edit

Hello, I thought I would bring it directly to your attention since you have been (incorrectly) removing the category from articles and insisting on it being gone. "Levels" and "locations" are not mutually exclusive and level means any area that the player enters while playing the game, not just an abstract "Mario" style level. A location can be a place that exists in lore but is not a playable area. If you disagree with this, then bring up the definition of "level" at WP:VG before trying to unilaterally remove things, which is disruptive when you are walking in out of nowhere and trying to redefine something that had a perfectly well-established consensus. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 05:27, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

P.S. To be clear, I am not necessarily against "level" being redefined, but doing it yourself without input from anyone else is not the way to go about it. People might support your view if you actually proposed it rather than deleting categories from articles. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 05:30, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
That's what I was trying to do. A primary location of a game isn't much of a level, as a level is essentially a chapter or sequence players must beat - followed up by about over several other levels. QuantumFoam66 (talk) 20:20, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am not sure where the discussion is where you got consensus to define level as "a chapter or sequence". Level (video games) says "a level (also referred to as a map, mission, stage, course, or round in some older games) is any space available to the player during the course of completion of an objective." It also presents Anor Londo as a notable level. This totally contradicts what you are saying. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 20:57, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I guess, however, you wouldn't call the single huge map that an open world game takes place in a level. QuantumFoam66 (talk) 21:02, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Sludge Life, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page First-person adventure game. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 05:56, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Category:Adventure

edit

Hello, QuantumFoam66,

Please do not remove all of the contents of a category and then tag it for deletion. This is called "emptying categories out of process" and can result in your edits being reverted (see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion#Ready for deletion). It is especially improper for long-standing categories that have been part of the category hierarchy for years. If you believe a category should be deleted, renamed or merged, please make an nomination at WP:CFD, you'll find instructions there on how to do this.

Please do not empty any more categories out of process, especially long-standing, full categories. If you have questions, please bring them to the Teahouse. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 18:01, 24 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Redirects have different deletion criteria than articles

edit

Hello, QuantumFoam66. I noticed you were applying WP:AFD reasoning to a couple WP:RFD proposals and discussions. I just wanted to point you to WP:RFD? for the general principles behind changing or removing redirects. Basically, redirects are far less visible to most users and thus have far less of a threshold for inclusion value. In particular, articles that would be deleted at AFD for non-notability are typically acceptable redirects if we have any information on the subject somewhere on wikipedia, such as a sub-section in another article, even if the information we have is very slight. Another useful thing to read would be WP:CHEAP, explaining why the threshold for keeping a redirect is so much lower than at AFD, and WP:INSTEAD showing that this is in fact officially consensus'ed wikipedia policy. I hope this helps you understand why your proposals are failing. Fieari (talk) 05:49, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
