Keeping comments

Hi. We normally keep comments, so I have replaced your comment at talk:top gear. Your comment was fine, it is great that you then edited the article, and it should be kept as part of the article record, and so no one makes the same mistake in the future. New talk page comments go to the bottom, so I have replaced your comment at the bottom of the page. Thanks for your understanding, SqueakBox 15:23, 20 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Copyrights

When you find text that's been copied from another website, you should follow these instructions rather than listing it on cleanup (although listing it on cleanup will usually work too.) This is because Wikipedia is infringing on the other website's copyright by reproducing its text, so this should be deleted from the history. I've sorted out Johnny Lee Clary, though, so there's no need to bother about that one. If you have any other questions then drop me a line and I'll either help you or put you in touch with a more knowledgeable person. Thanks. --Cherry blossom tree 12:44, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've deleted again and protected from editing, that should stop it -- Tawker 06:23, 4 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re Halaal move

David, thanks for chiming in on the move vote. I suspect that the article was previously located at Halal, since there's an existing talk page for it. (As a result, I couldn't simply move the article myself.) Is there an easy way to find out if there was a previous vote? I'd be interested in seeing what rationale there may have been to support the move. Thanks! quadratic 10:18, 4 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

As I guess you realise, it's possible a previous vote was lost if/when someone moved the article from "Halal" to "Halaal" (or back again) and manually cut'n'pasted it rather than using the Requested moves procedure... It might be possible to find out whether or not this happened by (say) posting your query at Wikipedia talk:Cut and paste move repair holding pen, where a passing admin more knowledgeable than us might help. (Not sure how often that area is visited, however.) Curiosity aside, I'd just plug on with the present vote. Regards, David Kernow 10:47, 4 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi David, it's been several days now and there have been five supporting votes without a single vote in opposition. What's the next step to make the move actually happen? quadratic 02:01, 9 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Admins monitoring the Requested moves page (most often User:Nightstallion) act on the outcome of surveys after around five days to a week, so Halaal will probably be moved anon. Looking at the Requested moves page, it's fourth in line. Best wishes, David Kernow 02:23, 9 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

VandalProof

Your VandalProof Application

Dear Quadratic,

Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact with the new 1.1 version release it has even more power. As such we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that you appear to need a bit more experiance on Wikepedia. Our guideline for acceptence is 250 article edits. Please come back in a couple weeks and we will accept you.. Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again in the not too distant future. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof.

Note, 250 is a guideline, I will approve with less, but not much less. Eagle talk 19:27, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Signature

Hi. I was just wondering if you'd maybe consider getting rid of the redirect to Quadratic Equation from your userpage? This is slightly confusing. Thanks. --Lord Deskana Dark Lord of the Sith 10:00, 17 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Deskana. I went ahead and removed it. Sorry about any confusion. f(x)=ax2+bx+c 18:35, 17 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

No worries, and thank you. d(User:Quadratic)/dx = 2ax + b ? --Lord Deskana Dark Lord of the Sith 19:35, 17 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

That joke is sooooooo derivative :P f(x)=ax2+bx+c 22:19, 17 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Heh. I had to slip a joke in there somewhere. Had to be a derivative because I could find an integral sign! --Lord Deskana Dark Lord of the Sith 22:45, 17 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

? Also, love the sig Q, but you might consider making one half go to your talk page, especially since your userpage is blank. -- nae'blis 00:38, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
The 2 linked to the talk page, but you're right... since my user page is blank, it doesn't make much sense for it to occupy the bulk of my signature. I've switched it around so that only the 2 links to my user page. If I ever put any content on the user page, I'll probably go with your suggestion. Thanks! f(x)=ax2+bx+c 22:10, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:58, 21 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits to Qur'an

I think you may have made a mistake when editing Qur'an as while you edited with reguard to word usage, a large portion of the article was removed in the process and the end of article became a partial world. You're currently engaged in an edit dispute with someone else who reverted your edit entirely for the etymology section, however. If you choose to put back your own edit, remember that you accidently blanked the end of the article in that edit. Kevin Breitenstein 06:01, 29 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Uhoh, your edit to Toynbee tiles

I'm back, unfortunatly. Lost part of Toynbee tiles when you added the merge tag.[1] Fixed it again. Kevin_b_er 06:59, 3 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

AfD votes

Please stop putting on the warning for the AfD Votes on my user talk about the AfD for Tim The Terrible anymore. It makes me look bad. I won't do that again. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Timothy Chavis (talkcontribs) .

Sorry, but I don't make the rules. They apply to everyone, so I can't just choose to ignore them for you. If you remove the warning I'll have to restore it and get an admin involved. Everyone makes mistakes, especially in the beginning, so I'd hope no one will hold it against you. However, if they see you repeatedly violating the rules by deleting warnings, they might. Keep that in mind. f(x)=ax2+bx+c 01:11, 15 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

The partial page blanking.

Hey all the large article edits now have a warning about google toolbar and firefox causing cutoffs. This is probably what happened to you earlier. Just thought you should know in case you miss the little message on the edit pages. Kevin_b_er 07:03, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: User page plagiarism

Thanks very much for spotting the swiped userpage! This kind of thing has never happened to me before so I'm not really sure what to do - should I point it out to an admin, or is it alright to edit it mercilessly?

In any case, I've removed the links to my own site from his page; I don't want anyone claiming to be me. Cheers again for spotting it! :D ~Inkiиgton 11:03, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

This one's got extra choccy bits. Mmm...

Cheers again for spotting the person who yoinked the code from my user page. I've never given anyone a wiki award before, but I think now is a good time to start. Here's a cookie! ~Inkiиgton 15:19, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

RE: Dany Tedmori speedly deletion

Hi there! As I was unsure of the notability of the the awards, I think I made a suggestion to use AfD to discuss the article's deletion in my edit summary. I have no opinion as to whether or not the article should be kept or deleted, but the rest of community probably does! hoopydinkConas tá tú? 14:18, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

But... there are no awards! :P Ah well, I'll go ahead with an AfD in that case. Thanks anyway. f(x)=ax2+bx+c 18:25, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please look into the List of Lebanese people edits. I try to make the article look better and Lcnj constantly reverts my edits and adds nonsense to the article. Please see which is less humiliating for the Lebanese. Jaber 10:30, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:Rhazes.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Rhazes.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:55, 16 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 23:55, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Jurassic 5-Feedback.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Jurassic 5-Feedback.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 16:36, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

travel

Hi Quadratic, this undo of grandfather paradox implies my fix wasn't an improvement. Maybe traveller is spelled correctly in an alternate English dialect? I thought I knew British, Australian, and Kiwi well enough to identify a valid variation. What's your reasoning? —EncMstr 18:59, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey EncMstr. Traveller is the spelling used in the UK. I'd guess that Commonwealth countries also spell it that way, but I can't say for sure. f(x)=ax2+bx+c 19:57, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:23, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
