Qcne:

Hey there. Sorry for the delayed reply. My life has been way too crazy. I have the additional citations for the David Young entry. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:David_Young_(poet)

Rodolfo Bonifacio bio draft

hi Qcne, do you think now could be correct? tks 82.58.81.7 (talk) 08:29, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

What's the source for the date of birth? date of death? You also have a couple of external links in the body of the text, please change them to citations. Qcne (talk) 13:32, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
thankyou very much for your indications on article Draft:Rodolfo Bonifacio which were all carefully applied. Do you think now works? Nicola Piovella (talk) 06:16, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Nicola Piovella. No sorry:
- Wikipedia cannot be used as a source (see WP:CIRCULAR).
- Nearly every single source is written be Bonifacio himself, so is not WP:INDEPENDENT.
Please read the criteria at WP:NACADEMIC. Qcne (talk) 10:22, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for your prompt reply. Please let me clarify in order to understand better:
  1. as for Wikipedia used as a source, this is simply because I couldn't find other way to refer to a wiki page which is in another language (one is in Italian and another in German). Is any other way I can do so?
  2. as for the sources written by Bonifacio himself, i must confess i am a bit confused as we are not talking about simple writings, but extremely relevant and recognized scientific work published by well regarded, established scientific journals/institutions following, as for the standard protocol, thorough and strict pier review processes (this is an abstract from google scholar https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=Rodolfo+Bonifacio&btnG=: ). Is there another way to cite? perhaps to be considered simply as bibliography? To notice that co-authors and scientific partners have also pages where the sources are mainly their published work. See Luigi Lugiato and Giulio Casati among others. Grateful for your valuable feedback. Regards
Nicola Piovella (talk) 14:52, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Nicola Piovella,
For inter-linking different Wikis, see WP:WIKILINK.
To satisfy the WP:NPEOPLE criteria we need significant coverage in secondary sources which are independent of the subject. Unless you can prove this person meets one of the special WP:NACADEMIC criteria? Qcne (talk) 17:41, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
Many thanks @Qcne for your valuable support. As for the sources, referring to the WP:NACADEMIC i believe the relevance is clear:
Specific Criteria N 1: the person's research has made significant impact: as it has been widely recognized by the international scientific community in occasion of his departure, he is recognized as "a pioneer of optical and laser physics who made extraordinary contributions to the subject and helped shape it into its present form" (see Tributes published by Italian Physycal Society ,, the Italian Intitute of Nuclear Physics and The American Institute of Physics , see also memorial lecture held at CERN Geneva )
Specific Criteria N 2. The person has received a highly prestigious academic award or honor at a national or international level: as mentioned in the draft he has been awarded with the highest awards in Quantum Optics: The Michelson Medal from the Franklin Institute for his studies of optical bistability and The Einstein Medal from the Society for Quantum Optics and Quantum Electronics for his pioneering work on the FEL. Moreover he was recognized with the title of "emeritus professor" both at the University of Milan and the Italian Institute of Nuclear Physics.
Specific Criteria N 3. The person has been an elected member of a highly selective and prestigious scholarly society or association He was associate emeritus at the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics, the national highest scholar society in physics
Specific Criteria N 4.The person's academic work has made a significant impact in the area of higher education: See SC 1, moreover, to notice that there is a current attribution dispute concerning among most significant equations of quantum optics, currently recognized as Maxwell-Boch but previously published as part of a totally original work by R.Bonifacio . see article published by Nature in 2016:
Specific Criteria N 5: The person has held a named chair appointment or "Distinguished Professor" appointment at a major institution of higher education and research (or an equivalent position in countries where named chairs are uncommon)
He held the Chair of Theoretical Physics at the UNIMI for more than 20 years and was appointed by the same institution as "Emeritus Professor" in 2015
I hope that these reference can be sufficiently coherent with the criteria, in any case i have proceeded already in changing the the paragraph name into "bibliography" in order to avoid further controversy. Thankyou again for your valuable assistance, any further feedback more than appreciated. Best Nicola Piovella (talk) 15:30, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Nicola Piovella, in that case I do think he satisfies the special criteria and so I have re-submitted and accepted for you. Please add some WP:CATEGORIES. Qcne (talk) 14:18, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
many thanks for your assistance and guidance. Much appreciated. Best Rgds Nicola Piovella (talk) 15:14, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

Draft: Euresearch

Hi, In October, you very kindly offered to review a rewrite of the Euresearch draft page. (18:52, 27 October 2023 review of submission by Wordsmith.ch). I followed the advice you gave me then and rewrote the article based on the information in secondary sources, of which there are now 9. I would be very pleased if you could take a look and tell me if you think the draft is ready to be resubmitted for publication. Thank you in advance for your help. Request on 11:51:33, 6 December 2023 for assistance on AfC submission by Afshaaan.ahmed

   Hi Qcne,
Thanks for reviewing the draft for Ahmad Rafay Alam. I see your point about needing more coverage from independent sources.
Could you maybe point me to a few examples of similar Pakistani profiles on Wikipedia? It'd help me understand what kind of sources I should be looking for. Alam's got quite a bit of coverage in big newspapers and journals, both in Pakistan and internationally, so I thought that might be enough, but I get that Wikipedia has its own way of doing things.
Any tips or examples you can share would be super helpful. I want to make sure I get this right.
Thanks a bunch for your help!

Afshaaan.ahmed (talk) 11:51, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Afshaaan.ahmed. Nearly all your sources so far are articles by Ahmad not about him. Have a look at WP:NBASIC which explains we need significant coverage of the person in reliable, independent, secondary sources.
As for articles to base this on, unfortunately Wikipedia has many thousands of articles that are poor quality and don't pass our notability test. I'd recommend looking at WP:GOOD articles which are ones rated by the community Qcne (talk) 14:22, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of BrahmanshiS/sandbox

A tag has been placed on BrahmanshiS/sandbox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ~ Tails Wx 14:21, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

I wrote a new company article

Compass Datacenters (Company)

Can you help determine if it meets notoriety requirements and help me get a logo onto it as I can't figure out the process.

Also question on Wikipedia policy, I work at this company but I was not paid to make this page and I did it on my own time simply because I felt like it. Is this ok or should a third party person have created this? ACasualEditor97 (talk) 21:16, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi @ACasualEditor97. You need to declare a conflict of interest at WP:COI, but if you really weren't asked to create the article and really did do it in your own time you should be okay.
As for notability... I think the article is borderline. It looks like most of the sources are regurgitated press releases? Try and find some truly independent reporting of the company.
Logo's must be deemed free use or fair use. Check the tutorial at Wikipedia:Uploading images. Qcne (talk) 16:28, 9 December 2023 (UTC)

Lists of X states political scandals

These lists were based on List of federal political scandals in the United States which has a long history of complaints and harassment by a multitude of sox. One complaint was that the terms were not defined adequately, thats why I emoahsized it. Another was that it was both too long and the materieI too recen, which is why I presented them singly by state, and limited the number of citations. If this opening is awkward you could use that one instead.Johnsagent (talk) 21:40, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

Companion Volume to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

I'm not sure what you mean by 'mangled text'. The article was inserted using copy/paste from an original Word file on my PC. The text was written by myself. So what exactly do you expect me to do? Or is there anything else that needs clarification? Thanks for your help. Rcjqffm (talk) 14:42, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Rcjqffm. A few issues:
- missing bullets on sociolinguistic and pragmatic
- random "<ref>" tags throughout, which suggests you may be missing references?
- the "Literature" section has the text "[edit]" after, which suggests you've copy-pasted it from another Wiki...?
We would much prefer you to have in-line citations with footnotes throughout. You have zero at the moment. Please carefully read WP:VERIFY and then follow the referencing tutorial at WP:INTREFVE.
Let me know if you have any more questions though, Qcne (talk) 14:45, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

No name editor Qcne: What sort of references would be enough for this great Mathematician to get a Wikipedia page. What are your qualifications to be turning down my draft? Believe me when I say he advanced a place in number theory that has remained quadratic since Euler (300 years). It is a very difficult area and he has advances it in several ways. I'm not going to give up. You are going to have to site better reasons than no references as I sited three respected sources and a pdf link. I'm assuming you are an human being and not a bot like "Fastily" and that you actually read the article I submitted. I think you just automatically rejected it without reading. Franois Dress article

Qcne: Just to be clear: I don't know Fraçois Dress. We speak different languages and communicate by Google translate. He is truly a great Mathematician. You guys (Wikipedia editors) gave me a bad run around when I started the Mandelbrot page and turned me from your "process" that involves giving other editors a hard time and not trying to help them. Roger Lee Bagula Rlbagulatftn (talk) 18:53, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

@Rlbagulatftn I do not appreciate your tone, I am a volunteer (human) editor with over 3,000 reviews.
I did not reject your Draft:François_Dress draft, merely declined it, which means it can be improved and re-submitted.
It is a hard requirement that articles of living people have in-line citations. This was one of the reasons I declined your draft. Follow the tutorial at WP:INTREFVE and add in-line citations after every statement. It would also be useful to format your reference list properly to our standards.
The second reason I declined your draft was because we have a criteria for academics at WP:NACADEMIC. Because of the lack of in-line citations I was unable to determine if Francois met this criteria. If, as you say, that he meets criteria 1 of that guideline then please give evidence of that in the body of the article.
Let me know if you have any questions, but please do so in a constructive manner. Qcne (talk) 19:03, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

Valentine goddard wiki article

Thanks for the feedback, i had actually just used chat gpt to reformulate the information i gave it so it would sound better is that a problem or is it better that i write it in my own words. And for the sources i only found about 5 news articles and 2 UN publications is that enough? Rowan Harris goddard (talk) 20:00, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Rowan Harris goddard. The text was written in a way that has the "ChatGPT" voice - it is something that you pick up on easily if you've been around ChatGPT -created articles a lot, like I have.
As for the sources: only people who meet our special definition of a notable person may have a Wikipedia article written about them. The guidelines are at WP:NBASIC. So far you've not proven notability with your sources- if those sources are the only ones you can find then Valentine is not notable enough yet to have a Wikipedia article, sorry.
Finally, you should not be writing about a subject you have a close connection to. I assume you are related to Valentine due to your surnames. We call this a Conflict of interest. Qcne (talk) 20:10, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Lonny Grafman page

Thanks for looking at the Lonny Grafman draft page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Lonny_Grafman I took out the appropedia refs and added a bunch more. I tried to go through it again, rearrange and take out promotional stuff but I am honestly having trouble figuring out how to be non-promotional and still show notability. If you see any specific areas that I missed please bold them and I will fix them on the next round. Also - I cant figure out how to upload cc-by-sa image https://www.appropedia.org/User:Lonny#/media/File:LonnyUserpage.jpg please help me do that to illustrate page. Thanks. Taylorswify (talk) 11:04, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

I figured out about how to do images - so fixed that. Is it ok for notability now with the new references? Taylorswify (talk) 00:53, 24 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Taylorswify. I would suggest it still has some promotional language that needs removing:
- the largest wiki website dedicated to sharing knowledge to build rich, sustainable lives (e.g., to make open source medical tech available for all < if this is a quote from a source, you need to state what source states this. But you can't just repeat verbatim what the About Us of Approprpedia says.
- which is a full immersion, study abroad, resilient community technology program < PR speak
- Lonny has taught university courses and workshops in dozens of countries. He has worked, and led teams, on hundreds of domestic and international < this is a bit self-gratuitous Qcne (talk) 13:41, 24 December 2023 (UTC)

@CoryRaval92 that's right, articles about musicians must pass that aforementioned notability criteria before they can be accepted into Wikipedia. By notability we mean significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources that are secondary to the subject.
Please also note Wikipedia is not to be used to promote a subject, that is strictly prohibited. This is an encyclopedia and not a PR database.

Redundant AfC comments

At Draft:The McNeil Center for Early American Studies, you commented Please re-write most of the body to be dry, neutral, and non-promotional. The issue is that the decline comment for the draft already said that, and your comment was too short to provide additional, actionable advice. I see you've left many similar comments when declining articles; please only add comments which expand upon the decline reason. Cheers, Mach61 (talk) 19:36, 28 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Mach61. Adding these comments is a perfectly fine thing to do? I don't see any guidance stating otherwise? I'll continue to add comments as I see fit, thanks. Qcne (talk) 19:38, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
The comments aren't a huge deal, but they don't have any positive benefit, and since most AfC reviewers only occasionally add comments, it may give newcomers the impression their submissions are unusually bad. Cheers, Mach61 (talk) 19:41, 28 December 2023 (UTC)

I've just had a bit of research, though, and I think it passes the line. I've therefore accepted the article. Thanks for the feedback! Qcne (talk) 18:02, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks! The Graduate School is the graduate school of Columbia University. It oversees all graduate degrees (MA, MS, PhD) that are granted at Columbia in the arts and sciences. So he holds a named chair at Columbia University, and that chair is independent of his being dean of their graduate school. So hopefully perfectly over the bar! Many thanks again for your speedy help. IvyIsFriendly (talk) 18:06, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
I wonder if I might ask you to take a look at my draft page for another graduate dean (and named professor at Yale!): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Lynn_Cooley? This was also rejected on the same grounds, but I think passes the same test. She holds a named professorship at Yale (again, independent of her administrative appointment as dean). Many thanks! IvyIsFriendly (talk) 18:10, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks @IvyIsFriendly- the academic criteria is a weird specific one and often catches me out. I agree that Lynn meets that criteria so have accepted. Qcne (talk) 18:13, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks again for your quick help! (I've got a few more such pages to go...! I'm trying to do all the Ivy+ institutions.) IvyIsFriendly (talk) 18:16, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
Feel free to put them here and I can have a look when ready :) Qcne (talk) 18:17, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
Here's another one, thanks! : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Jason_Merchant IvyIsFriendly (talk) 19:14, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
And a last one for tonight! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Jon_Kull Thanks again! IvyIsFriendly (talk) 19:32, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
Looks like that one was declined by @94rain- just checking if you'd seen the WP:NACADEMIC criteria 94rain? I think the Deanish makes him notable under criteria #5. Qcne (talk) 19:38, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi Qcne. I declined it based on NACADEMIC as it didn't come to my mind that any criteria could be met. I'm not sure how this could meet #5. Do you mean they hold a named chair? Does named chair = named professor? I was thinking a named chair needs to have literally a named chair title like Andrew Viterbi as a Presidential Chair Professor. Looks like Deanish is related to #6 but in the specific criteria notes it says Lesser administrative posts (provost, dean, department chair, etc.) are generally not sufficient to qualify under Criterion 6 alone. I might be misunderstanding, and I'll continue to do some research later. Please feel free to proceed with acceptance if you see fit. 94rain Talk 20:26, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
Yes, named chair = named professorship. These are typically synonyms (also sometimes called "endowed chair" or "endowed professorship" as well). It's an honor bestowed after someone has already been promoted to Professor (the highest rank in the US system). It's kind of confusing, because "chair" is also used as the name of the head of a department, center, or institute as an administrative title. This second kind of "chair" is not a named chair. So Kull satisfies criterion #5 because he is the Rodgers Professor: that's a named chair. According to the source I cited at Dartmouth, Kull is "the inaugural holder of the Rodgers Professorship at Dartmouth College." Kull is not notable because of being dean: it's because of his endowed chair. Thanks for your patience with all this! IvyIsFriendly (talk) 21:45, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
I personally hate the academic criteria because it's so confusing, but I am going to err on the side of acceptance on this one. AfC reviewers should accept if there is not a 50% chance it would pass an articles for deletion discussion, and I think it meets that threshold. Accepted. Qcne (talk) 11:21, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, and agreed about it being confusing. IvyIsFriendly (talk) 12:49, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

Daniela Pes

Hello @Qcne, I would like to translate this page : https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniela_Pes . Her first record was voted as one of the best in 2023 in Italy from the majority of the magazines. Above all, she won the Tenco Award - Targa Tenco#Best Debut Album - probably the most important award for songwriters in Italy (as best new artist in 2023) . I read the gudeline but it is not clear to me I can do the english page. What do you think ? Thank you in advance. Kimbamy (talk) 10:19, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Kimbamy, I don't speak Italian so I've had to Google Translate the article. Looking at the sources in that article she may pass our WP:NMUSICIAN criteria, especially with that award. I say go for it. Qcne (talk) 19:49, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
Thank you very much @Qcne :) Kimbamy (talk) 20:22, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

Rebecca Ackroyd draft

Thanks for your review of my draft and your comment linking to the requirements for an artist.

I’ve made changes that I believe address the wp:artist notability requirements including a list of museums including her work in their permanent collections. Is there anything else you’d recommend? Draft:Rebecca Ackroyd Resing (talk) 00:35, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
